prox··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
Because it’s not the same type. There was no actual info until the patch dropped, with some people in the know , which made it dangerous to leave your site up. The stopgaps were wild guesses. The multi-upload mitigation wouldn’t have worked.

There was no check that could be trusted to be the check to mitigate it. So that left the scenario that we went through.

Agreed. This is all lazy chair hindsight talk, maybe by those not affected by it. In the moment you act on the imperfect information you have available and you use the safe than sorry rule. And to demand perfect information is also a fallacy, it doesn’t exist until after the fact.

This is all hindsight talking. You act on the information as it becomes available. At the moment, the being safe than sorry rule applied.

Only feed them away from your house. These are smart birds, you don’t want them tracking you home ;)

This works for most dogs as well, or any pet really. Scent is very important for them and builds trust.

I like that George seems to be in a better headspace. He was like that posh brit talking others down with a know it all attitude, but since the summerbreak he has been way more relaxed and less antagonistic.

The struggle is the blind opening of chrome, like most people probably just do without thinking. Unless you are really a hardcore frontend developer, you lose nothing by switching to Firefox (or non chrome/chromium browser). I operate both and for 95%, maybe even more, there is no difference. By switching you will put pressure on google to keep on the users good side.

I think the schism happened for several reasons, none of which I can personally account. If people really want to dig in, the subreddit r/academicbiblical is full of well, academics and people who know their stuff.

Could very well be a venn diagram here

A lot of them. Claude is a choice. Here is the list : https://help.kagi.com/kagi/ai/assistant.html

You can even choose a model for each turn.

prox··on Automattic's board forces CEO Matt Mullenweg into leave of absence
I have seen way too many people in my surroundings go off their rockers after too many ayahuasca trips, especially if they do it in a short time frame, they get emotionally unregulated.

So when do you use Fable? For difficult singular tasks?

prox··on US strikes $1.2B deal to pay German firm to halt offshore wind projects
If this is true, this is the person some folks think is fit to lead a nation. One little thing not suiting his whim of the day? Lets hate something that helps with energy production.

Welcome the world of transactional opportunism.

prox··on Discovery of a multicomponent alloy forged by the Hiroshima atomic blast
Looks like every time a new “big thing” gets invented, the big thing becomes like a hammer and everything else turns into the proverbial nail. Then it was atomic everything, not its AI everything. Same pattern repeating.
prox··on Ship Safe, an open source security scanner for coding agents
How about HN make a rule where you can’t just post your latest vibe, you need to tell us why and how this project fits and what it meant writing it. Put the effort in, remove the low-effort.

That sounds horrible. I got an old PI4, would it make for a decent router, if at all possible?

prox··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
What does this line mean “ the web at a rapid rate and build corpora.” , what are they trying to do? Suck up data for training AI or something else?
prox··on Vāgdhenu: A Sanskrit Chanting TTS System
Luckily a lot of research has gone into Vedic recitation from an academic perspective if someone would take up the mantle.
prox··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
Yes, I think agree with what you say. I think the future is still wide open, and I feel we must start thinking of what creates better results in the long run.
prox··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
I think the sibling comment shares some good examples. Maybe future drone armies is another one.

That you don’t see anything scary that’s your prerogative of course.

prox··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
Your perspective is a short arc. “Look what I can do now and look it made me way more productive.” I have no doubt it is true, you are on the up right now.

However thinking of the long arc is important to, even though it has no consequence for you right now. AI is a force multiplayer and scarily dangerous in the wrong hands. We can already see by these discussions how uncertain things are.

Just food for thought.

prox··on Einstein's relativity rules chemical bonds in heavy elements, new research shows
I really want to read more about this. It’s fascinating but also very difficult to wrap your head around. I did enjoy the Feynman talks.

I think I recently learned that the Higgs is actually not that much part of imparting mass for atomic particles. I thought it imparted all mass.
