pru567··on NFTs Are Beanie Babies
trolling is such fun, such wow.
pru567··on NFTs Are Beanie Babies
I think NFTs will become used culturally to fight the perennial "Eternal September" -- or the phenomenon whereby a place gets ruined because its too popular; They will be used to signal identification with some group and then network with them. Societies/tribes/subcultures are about including/excluding who they do and don't want.
pru567··on NFTs Are Beanie Babies
No one can be absolutely certain of a future event, but you are being unreasonably negative.
pru567··on Ask HN: Looking for feedback on our website (freelance platform))
The name is bad, the feedback popup should not popup unless you click it, it should also be in the lower right hand corner. Its not very obvious that I should scroll down to learn more.
pru567··on NFTs Are Beanie Babies
NFTs are art-projects, status-symbols, patreons, access keys (conferences/private discords), and an experiment in IP law (as owning a Bored Ape confers merchandising rights.) The space is more interesting than just jpegs.
pru567··on Crypto’s last man standing
Aren't algo-stablecoins a refuted concept after IronFinance and Terra/Luna?
pru567··on The golden age of the aging actor
I think its interesting that two of the most bankable stars of their respective times are/were enormous guys: Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
pru567··on A QUARTER of Americans say they are ready to take up arms against the government
Even if this ridiculous poll was true, and somehow the attack materialized; I think the Federal Government would make quick work of them -- with sonic crowd control weapons, tanks, fighter jets and who knows what else. Its kind of a libertarian fantasy that a modern government can be overthrown.
pru567··on One man’s fight to end California’s ban on ferrets
There's some horror stories of ferrets around toddlers (eating face/eating fingers), they seem pretty wild.
pru567··on Jupiter CEO Quits $68B Firm to Sit at the Beach and ‘Do Nothing’
I've come to the conclusion that people can't be happy unless they are building something/building toward something. Doing nothing is not really an option, psychologically speaking. That's imo why adults don't make friends easily because their lives only meaningfully intersect when they have a shared goal.
pru567··on Abolish Zoning
Part of the attraction of the suburbs is that most US cities aren't very compelling. Its not like the choice is a Cleveland suburb vs Barcelona; its a Cleveland suburb vs Cleveland. Neither choice is all that great.
pru567··on $200B wiped off crypto market over the weekend
Why though? Do rising interest rates really explain such a large move?
pru567··on Ask HN: Should I move to California or Germany as a SWE with 2 small kids?
Homeschooling is illegal in Germany and its harder to avoid covid vaccines (idk if these items matter to you)
pru567··on Dark Moon: The Inevitable Collapse of Luna
FTX allows you to short some coins, don't know specifically if they allowed you to short LUNA/TERRA.
pru567··on U.S. court rejects Tether’s bid to conceal reserve records from the public
I was actually trying to figure out the risks of lending GUSD (a fully audited and collateralized stablecoin) to a Curve pool. I generally think its a bad idea, but I can't figure out why. pru567··on U.S. court rejects Tether’s bid to conceal reserve records from the public
There's big yield in stablecoins. But yeah, it seems likely that the risk is not worth the yield.
pru567··on U.S. court rejects Tether’s bid to conceal reserve records from the public
For years the major allegation has been that BTC price is artificially propped up by fraudulent Tethers. We finally get to resolve this point.
pru567··on Please Stop Using Grey Text
Anyone else think ft.com is pretty close to ideal? Black text on parchment/sepia paper?
pru567··on Another stablecoin loses peg – DEI team working to restore the peg

pru567··on Billion-Dollar Crypto Loan Is Easy to Get, but Gone in a Flash
Is there a list of common attacks with names? This is the first time I've heard the term "reentrancy attack", there's probably a dozen other terms I've never heard of, but would like to read about.
pru567··on Some interesting data on UST stablecoin, and how to make investors whole again
The proposal is USDC, which would be sent to the various ETH wallet addresses. No verification would be needed.
pru567··on Over $1.2B in Bitcoin reserves remains unaccounted for by Luna Fdn. Guard
Dae Kwon lives in Singapore, I imagine he'll find a friendly jurisdiction outside of US regulators.
pru567··on Luna Cryptocurrency Collapse: How UST Broke
I concede your point, but I feel like black swan event isn't a real thing if its some structural flaw that's obvious in hindsight,

eg. its obvious the 2008 housing market was going to collapse, so that's not a black swan, so what is an example of a black swan then?

pru567··on Luna Founder Requests Police Protection as Investors Are Visiting His House
George soros attacked the pound in a similar manner, so you points dont exclude traditional finance. Of course, pound wasnt susceptible to a death spiral
pru567··on Luna Cryptocurrency Collapse: How UST Broke
An entity attacked the peg with 100,000 BTC, its sort of a black swan event.
pru567··on Luna Founder Requests Police Protection as Investors Are Visiting His House
Further addendum includes this attack;

"As the LUNA price continued to plummet, the Chainlink price feed used by the protocols became inaccurate, allowing funds to be borrowed against vastly overpriced LUNA collateral."

pru567··on Luna Founder Requests Police Protection as Investors Are Visiting His House
While looking into this, I also ran into the "DegenBox UST MiM strategy" which allegedly gave 100% returns (until it didn't), but atm I don't understand the mechanism; I think it will make an interesting addendum to the story for the intrepid reader/rabbit hole explorer.
pru567··on Luna Founder Requests Police Protection as Investors Are Visiting His House
Since hn is so negative on crypto, it likely missed the interesting details of the technical attack. Terra was doing a migration from a 3-token curve liquidity pool to a 4-token curve liquidity pool. During this migration their reserves are vulnerable, at at this point a well-capitalized attacker borrowed 100k BTC, converted it into UST and started attacking the peg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqW4-FGA9j4

Its related to the curve wars which itself is an interesting walk through game theory. https://every.to/almanack/curve-wars
