Anyone have a sense of what a valuation like that would mean for employees trying to cash out?

It seems like a lot of companies are figuring out what Elon Musk has been doing so well for years: you can make a company worth whatever you want if you can sell people on a vision of how it could be worth that much.

I've heard two explanations for how Anthropic could be a good bet at its IPO price. 1. They are going to use their better-than-everyone-else AI to basically win every industry simultaneously. 2. They "get their first" and build an AI god.

If you believe 1 then you better invest in Anthropic because soon enough they will be the only company. If you believe 2 then maybe it doesn't really matter anyway?

With my 3200 lumen projector it is good at all times of day in my living room projecting on a wall that doesn't get direct sunlight shining onto it. It just can't make anything darker than the wall itself, so blacks are gray, which is not really an issue for me, although it might be if I were watching more movies during the day.

Previously, I had a portable project that only advertised 1000 lumens, and it was difficult to use during the day.

I would say that with a powerful enough projector it isn't really an issue unless you care a lot about black levels during the day.

If you are open to projectors they still make “home cinema” projectors that don’t have any smart features or connect to the internet.

I have a BenQ (710tki iirc) that is like this and I believe it meets all your stated requirements (size, resolution, etc). I’ve been very happy with it.

The current rules that SAG-AFTRA negotiated with the studios already allow the studios to use AI for "fix it in post" type stuff that doesn't alter an actor's performance, such as extending a scene or modifying the environment around an actor.

If they want to use AI to modify an actor's performance or generate new footage of an actor (the so-called "digital replica") they need to get the actor's consent in advance and compensate them based on the number of days the actor would have worked to produce the generated footage.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything to confirm this, but it seems likely that Amazon is asking actors for a blanket waiver so they can use AI however they want. If that is the case it is understandable why Cage wouldn't want to work with them.

Yeah. I think if the text is written for other machines, then by all means have an LLM generate it, but if it is intended for a human audience, have a human being write it.

We are still much better at writing in a way that doesn't waste other people's time.

I have a JetKVM and could never get video to work on it despite spending a lot of time on troubleshooting. It may have just been a defective unit but I never got around to trying to RMA it.

Well, just yesterday the WSJ published an article [1] about bending spoons that include this detail:

A bit over a year ago I got an iPad Pro with the nano-texture display and when hearing that apple was developing a folding phone I thought, man, if they put this screen on the inner display that would be amazing.

I assumed they wouldn't do it because they were marketing the nano-texture as a specialty thing for professionals and glossy screens were the popular ones, but now here we are.

GrapheneOS actually recommends against using Aurora and instead just using the Play Store, so this shouldn't really hurt users.

For extra privacy, you can sign into the Play Store with a Google Account that isn't tied to anything else.

I'm wondering of you could clarify your thoughts on this. I've had a hard time evaluating what Fable-class actually is capable of that sets them (or really it) apart from other models in a very significant way.

Most windows laptops will do something like this by default to enhance the sound. Part of what ships as "Dolby Atmos" is some EQ-ing and normalization, with the default not being flat. It is just necessary to make those tiny laptop speakers sound half decent and not crap out all the time.

This thing does a much better job at cleaning their nano-texture displays compared to a regular, smooth microfiber lens cleaning cloth, so there is actually a reason for it to exist.

That being said, while I haven't tested this, you can get other "suede" style microfiber cloths that I suspect are functionally the same thing as the Apple Polishing Cloth.

What would it mean to crack down on distillation? I could think of a few possibilities:

1. Using political pressure to target companies that are accused of doing it.

2. Attempting to impose criminal penalties on individuals associated with the action.

I agree with this but for a different reason than what the author gives.

When you write in a notebook you can see where what you are writing is within the notebook (e.g. ~1/3 of the way through, etc). That seems like a small thing but I think it really helps with anchoring the memory when writing, as well as with referencing it later. And of course you can also add all sorts of tabs and page markers to help even more.

Huh, as a Lanaboote user I’m surprised to see this on the front page. I use this in combination with sbctl for key generation. I’m mostly using it because I wanted to set up full disk encryption with TPM2 auth.
