r_lee··on Claude Code sends your email address to websites
so you need 2 subscriptions because Anthropic must send your email to everyone?
r_lee··on Major Investors Are Skeptical Anthropic IPO Can Achieve $1.5T Valuation
depends on if they're cost efficient. if there comes some kind of "good enough" inference chips and so on (which i believe will happen), then those will simply provide the most tokens per dollar and make open models even cheaper
r_lee··on Major Investors Are Skeptical Anthropic IPO Can Achieve $1.5T Valuation
I feel like there is a case to be made that they will be the dominant players, but if we're talking about them charging a heavy premium and trying to target enterprise customers, then I don't know how well that'll go

they're already making a business model where enterprises buy tokens and put them in a pool for their users to use, and I feel like that's exactly where some companies will then compare that token pricing to open source models and find it hard to justify the prices, especially as it's quite obvious that many models https://news.ycombinator.com/formatdocare now "good enough"

r_lee··on North Korean fake job interview led to $6.3B Binance heist
> Better to pay a trusted company to do this kind of thing instead of letting North Korea show you how it's done.

but enterprises usually prefer the latter, I guess it's more convenient since it bypasses the bureaucratic processes?

r_lee··on YC's Garry Tan uses AI agents so much, he spends up to $200K a year on tokens
could you make a skill for this? Thanks
r_lee··on Everything is an AI scam now
also might be the fact that most tmodels now recognize "ignore previous instructions" as prompt injection
r_lee··on Tell HN: Gemini trains on chat history, even for subscribers (personal accounts)
another Google W I guess? gemini really leading the pack over here
r_lee··on Anthropic blocks users for anything touching training larger models
yeah, what I meant with my comment is that the guardrails are supposed to stop honest people, since those that know how to bypass them will have ways to do so
r_lee··on Postgres 19 is late because so many more bugs are being found now
I mean the transformer model came out of Google, and it's literally a query thing so yeah.

any kind of pattern matching / transformation is going to be an ideal task for LLMs

r_lee··on The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks
"do plenty" or just use React for everything and have a single thing where you don't need to worry about the limitations or having to remake the same stuff the framework provides?

and what % of users have JS turned off? 0.00001%?

r_lee··on Anthropic blocks users for anything touching training larger models
best part is, if you actually know what you're doing, you cna absolutely get it to find bugs/vulns/etc. so it just really about preventing long horizon agentic tasks or people who don't know what they're doing or those who are doing legit non-offensive security sfuff
r_lee··on Anthropic's Claude AI blocks video game cloning and reverse-engineering
I think he means incase you're not running it locally and instead rely on a provider where it'd just exfil via thinking blocks or whatever
r_lee··on Ex-Meta Researcher Torrented Pirated Books, Deleted It 'Due to Litigation'
what do you hope to achieve with this?
r_lee··on Bunny CDN Security Incident
they're not really a "proper" CDN

they use random providers for their cheap bandwidth so they don't have much control over their stuff, thus I'd only really use them as a cache for bandwidth heavy stuff

r_lee··on Securing our frontier model training environment
I'm guessing honestly they'd be able to do it by just doing like 1 and 0 flips in some repeated patterns and one side transmitting some "hello" message in morse code or something. if the other llm is watching the output it'd be able to identify such messages very quickly no matter what encoding scheme is used as long as it's common and not complex
r_lee··on GitHub saw 7.4B commits in Sep., adding 4M CPU cores+160 PB storage to keep up
github is owned by Microsoft, their intention is not just to make money off of it

it's like Gmail and Google

r_lee··on PHP2Shell: Exploitation attempts and remediation trends
for the single threaded one it's easier from what I can remember
r_lee··on OLED iPad Mini
it's what actually starts conversations.

it's not super "ethical" if you're like triggered by (maybe) harsh opinions, but it gets people to chime in vs just lurking

r_lee··on OLED iPad Mini
then everything would be just tiptoeing and nothing would be interesting.... it's not like someone saying that will actually cause Apple to get rid of it
r_lee··on Moderna and Merck say their mRNA cancer vaccine cut death, recurrence by 42%
only in HN!

that's great though that you got closure. also remember that hindsight is 20/20 and it's hard to really link some vague symptoms to a disaster until it's too late

r_lee··on Root shell on Samsung TV
> full-HD, 40 inch TV

are we living in 2010 or something?

r_lee··on Listen and read USA nuclear forces Emergency Action Messages, heard on 11175 kHz
I literally left. 5.5 is so much better. I don't know how they managed to mess up 5 so bad
r_lee··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
how are they supposed to get paid?
r_lee··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
do you use their proprietary platform API?

and how are costs like for your usual workflows/etc.?

r_lee··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
> with another PHP thing.

oh man...

r_lee··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
if you wanna have the same kind of capability as these researchers where you have tight loops calling cli stuff you won't get by with $5 at all, especially for major bugs

if you have a way to turn $5 easily into exploitable vulns, let me know cause that'd be a first for me

r_lee··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
it takes a lot more than that....
r_lee··on Tell HN: I unknowingly broke the PHP RCE embargo. I am sorry
and like I said in my other comment here, they could've released an OOM-only fix that would've not revealed the actual full exploit but would've protected everyone, but they decided that the only way would be to fix the whole thing and release that... it's very stupid, but seems like it's expected from them, considering it took them 2 months to get to a fix
r_lee··on PHP 8.2.35
especially since they could've provided an emergency interim fix that was just the OOM guards
r_lee··on Tell HN: I unknowingly broke the PHP RCE embargo. I am sorry
it was easy to find if you had the tokens even without the chainguard patch
