rabbits_2002··on How to get 7th graders to smoke
The sole take away I got from DARE when I was a kid is “LSD sounds really cool, gotta try that someday”
rabbits_2002··on Happy JavaScript Naked Day 2024
wow a text only website isnt using javascript. therefore no website should rely on javascript, ever what is the point of this post exactly? seems incredibly pointless and short sighted
rabbits_2002··on Everyone has JavaScript, right?
Ok but what are the actual stats? I can’t imagine more than 1 percent of users have JS disabled. I think I can live without that.
rabbits_2002··on You might not want to use your fingertip to unlock your phone
I personally don’t use it because the sensors are always fiddly and if I am in an emergency I don’t want to struggle opening my phone.
rabbits_2002··on Ask HN: Why is OpenAI and ChatGPT design so bad?
I never thought this a single time. The UI is perfectly fine.
rabbits_2002··on American Ornithological Society changing the names of birds named after people
It will always be a Wilson’s Warbler to me
rabbits_2002··on Nano-scale inks could lighten airliners by hundreds of kilograms
I am surprised a 737 is only 100k lbs, I would have assumed like 250k. A blue whale weighs significantly more.
rabbits_2002··on "I used a pin to unlock the cable connected to the Apple Vision Pro battery"
wow this specific single use cable with two proprietary ends looks superficially like a lightning cable. apple is so evil!

are people just pretending to be outraged now?

rabbits_2002··on Apple's Vision Pro battery pack is hiding the final boss of Lightning cables
Horrible article
rabbits_2002··on Infinite Craft
I noticed that mixing a 2 word item with something else will often combine the words instead of looking at the meaning:

super volcano + man = super human

but then it breaks if you mix further:

super human + giraffe = super giraffe ?

rabbits_2002··on Infinite Craft
There used to be webgames with a similar premise. Pretty fun.

I think some of the recipes don’t make sense and it would be a lot better if each thing only had one recipe to create it.

rabbits_2002··on 'Obelisks': New Class of Life Has Been Found in the Human Digestive System
How is this a form of life?
rabbits_2002··on Streaming wars are over and Netflix won
Unlabeled sponsored article
rabbits_2002··on Lossy CSS compression for fun and loss (or profit)
wow this sounds incredibly useful
rabbits_2002··on Don't Talk to People Like They're Chatbots
>you might be tempted to 'yell' at your chatbot, but that won't actually get you any results.

Are you sure? Chatbots seem to give better results under “pressure”.

rabbits_2002··on Don't Talk to People Like They're Chatbots
I would love if we started talking to voice assistants like they talk to the computer in star trek.
rabbits_2002··on Did an AI write that hour-long "George Carlin" special? I'm not convinced
The “dudesy” thing is not a real LLM or anything similar. Its just a gimmick for some dumb comedy podcast with Will Sasso. It is very obviously not a real chatbot and is scripted. I am almost 100% certain this is the same thing. One of the comedians in the podcast probably wrote this.
rabbits_2002··on Google's layoffs in Korea has hit a snag as some employees are refusing to go
Hideously evil company
rabbits_2002··on Why Rich People Don't Cover Their Windows
what a vapid pointless article
rabbits_2002··on Antidepressant use is surging in Britain
They don’t work for everyone and have negative effects for lots of people including myself.
rabbits_2002··on A man's pay-to-use toilet gag showed Google Maps can be used to track people
gps is accurate enough to tell what room you are in. Google knows roughly how large each addressed building is, theyre outlined on the map. Theres no reason to assume this particular feature would be less accurate than every other GPS feature.
rabbits_2002··on A man's pay-to-use toilet gag showed Google Maps can be used to track people
I just checked someones home business and it did indeed show the busy times

Perfect for a burglar lol

rabbits_2002··on Greenland startup begins shipping glacier ice to cocktail bars in the UAE
it keeps saying its green and safe for the environment but doesnt explain how lol
rabbits_2002··on Ask HN: Why does React need 1484 dependencies by default?
That is create-react-app not react itself but I agree webdev has reached a point of schizophrenia regarding dependencies and performance.
rabbits_2002··on Famous Xkcd comic comes full circle with AI bird-identifying binoculars
Merlin has been out for like a decade
rabbits_2002··on Spotted water hemlock: the most toxic plant in North America (2017)
isnt there a difference in glycemic index between the two?
rabbits_2002··on Spotted water hemlock: the most toxic plant in North America (2017)
thats entirely subjective, I love the flavor of celery
rabbits_2002··on Smart binoculars can identify 9k birds
Sounds neat but its really expensive and will never get pictures as good as a real camera despite costing as much. You can also just use Merlin on your phone.
rabbits_2002··on Smart binoculars can identify 9k birds
its a real birding term, i have heard older birders say it
rabbits_2002··on Hertz to sell 20k EVs in shift back to gas-powered cars
EVs are bad at long distances and take a long time to charge. Rental customers are usually on a tight schedule and need to travel long distances. I don’t know why they thought this would be a good idea.
