ramykhuffash··on All 60 startups that launched at Y Combinator Winter 2016 Demo Day 1
A lot of today's big tech companies looked like "fluff" in the beginning. I assume YC picked the companies based on more than what their current product offering is.
ramykhuffash··on LinkedIn shares drop 40%, erasing $10B of company's value
London is a weird spot for property. I see it as more inline with the gold market. A "safe" investment for people who need to invest. That makes your last point more likely if anything I'm saying is true, but what happens when in London is unlikely to reflect the properly market in general, which is based somehat on fundamentals.
ramykhuffash··on UI Movement – The best UI design inspiration, every day
Just noticed this got posted (thanks ingve).

I made & launched this a couple of weeks or so ago - it's been going pretty well so far!

If you have any questions or feedback, let me know!

ramykhuffash··on Tell HN: Hello
This is an awesome post & I'm excited to see the support from HN.

I like how you're giving yourself a solid goal and plenty of time to achieve it.

Quick question - you mention that you'd like to build an MVP yourself, do you know what product you'd like to build or what market you're interested in serving?

ramykhuffash··on Uber vs. Car Ownership
I actually think it's an interesting topic and would have liked to see some discussion around it, what's the issue with that?
ramykhuffash··on Rap Genius Raises $40M, Changes Name To Genius
LiveFyre Sidenotes let people add comments on a per-paragraph basis, which is similar I guess: http://web.livefyre.com/streamhub/#liveSidenotes
ramykhuffash··on Show HN: NowVia – Save, organize, and discuss the things you find interesting
Yeah, that's kinda what we're aiming for.
ramykhuffash··on Show HN: NowVia – Save, organize, and discuss the things you find interesting
The image? Haha yeah, we got it from http://unsplash.com - I'm guessing they did too!
ramykhuffash··on Show HN: NowVia – Save, organize, and discuss the things you find interesting
Thanks!

When you save something on NowVia, you see who else has saved it and what people are saying about it.

So imagine 19 people from around the world save a great design resource - by doing so, they discover each other's channels, and can all discuss that resource in the same place. The 20th person to save that resource also sees that discussion and can join in. The focus on connecting people through interests and trying to encourage discussion is the differentiator.

ramykhuffash··on These tweets are proof that startup people are crazy
I think it's a lot about curiosity and not necessarily to laugh at the author.

I doubt you'd do this experiment again, but an idea might be to ask those who clicked why they did it and what they were expecting to find.

ramykhuffash··on A simple way Google could have avoided fucking up Google+
I apologize for the shameless plug, but we're at the early stages of solving some of the problems you mentioned at http://NowVia.com

It lets you create topic-based "channels" that people can follow. So you could have one for 3-D printing, and when you add to it, you know everyone following it is specifically interested in 3-D printing. I'd love your feedback if you decide to have a play :-)

ramykhuffash··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses?
Well done! I don't need a business website, but I felt a slight urge to give you my money after reading the value proposition. I especially liked the "what we do vs what you do" part.
ramykhuffash··on Show HN: Omegle-style random chat combined with a recommender system
It was so easy to try out, I thought I might as well. I had a quick conversation with a friendly chap from South Africa, rated it five stars and was on my way.

Although it was an enjoyable experience, I'm not sure whether I will come back.

ramykhuffash··on What happened to Priceonomics?
I noticed this a while back. I'm guessing their blogging efforts were so successful, they decided to make it the focus and become a media business. I too would love to hear what's going on behind the scenes at Priceonomics.
ramykhuffash··on Ask HN: Inbox for everything?
Cloudmagic? https://cloudmagic.com
ramykhuffash··on Namebox - sell your unwanted or unused domains
I think a lot of people like me buy domains planning to do something with them. Eventually we realize that time is limited, but we still hang onto the hope of eventually finding the time to do something with the domains.

I'm guessing they are overpriced because people don't actually want to sell their domains, but they would happily do so if someone was to offer a good chunk of cash for them.

That's my logic anyway. I never bought any domains with plans to sell them, but this site was so easy to use, I threw them up there and put big prices on them, just in case :-)

ramykhuffash··on Introducing Path 3.2: Private Sharing, Inner Circle, and Premium
I guess it is, I was just curious to see if Path users would even mind
ramykhuffash··on Introducing Path 3.2: Private Sharing, Inner Circle, and Premium
Any suggestions of things you might pay for? Also, would you mind if they did twitter style in-stream ads?
ramykhuffash··on KitKat's new website
I still prefer regular scrolling to "parallax scrolling." Maybe I'm just getting old...
ramykhuffash··on Narrato – a personal journal you won’t give up on
Yep, I agree. This is just the 1.0, export options will improve.
ramykhuffash··on Narrato – a personal journal you won’t give up on
Not currently, but we are expanding to other devices. Our priorities will depend on demand, but OSX makes a lot of sense to us :-)
ramykhuffash··on Narrato – a personal journal you won’t give up on
I guess we haven't made this clear enough and that's our fault, but we charge upfront for the app and a year's worth of service. After that, it's $4.99 a year. We're not sure that this is the best business model (when compared to Evernote's for example), but we do know that we will not sell data or advertise. With this model, each paid user covers the cost of their usage (and not the usage of the 10s of free users their money has to cover with a freemium service) and it means we're still incentivised to continue to update and improve the service, so people renew their subscription at the end of the year.
ramykhuffash··on John Gruber and friends launch Vesper note capture app
It seems to be very similar to Day One, which also costs $5 and is quite popular
ramykhuffash··on Kill your credit card-less free trial.
Really interesting. I'd love to see some numbers from a site/product that actually A/B tested both options.

If I had to use my credit card to get a free trial with Buffer for example, I would have never tried it (and eventually converted), but I guess it depends on the product.

ramykhuffash··on Apple releases ad for Google Glass
I've seen this before, but watching it while thinking about Glass was a completely different experience.

It does indeed seem like Glass would have been ideal in most situations covered in the video.

ramykhuffash··on Have you tried to keep a journal, but given up? You’re not alone
(Note: I'm the guy who posted this) - Yes I completely agree with that. We know that most apps that are downloaded are free.

The people who participated in this survey are people interested in journaling apps and the Quantified Self, so they don't represent everyone. Maybe people interested in QS spend more on apps?

This was just a rough survey, mainly so we learn more about our customers. We just thought it was interesting and worth sharing :-)

ramykhuffash··on HN front page, 16000 visitors in a day, how many actually read the article?
Exactly what I came here to say. Those people could have spent 10 hours really absorbing that one article and their time would have still been recorded as 0 seconds.
ramykhuffash··on Stephen Wolfram on Personal Analytics
"Augmented memory is going to be very important." I don't work for them or even use the product anymore, but CloudMagic (https://cloudmagic.com) came to mind when I red this.

It goes some way to augment memory and is fast & easy to use.

ramykhuffash··on Show HN: 6 months ago I quit my job to pursue indie dev. Here is our first game
Doing so well on HN will help massively with press. I'll enjoy writing about this on a decent sized app site tomorrow :-)
ramykhuffash··on As of today, App.net is a freemium service
This is exactly how the normal consumers look at these things. Outside of my tech life, no one cares at all.

They just joined Twitter, years after it was launched, because they wanted to see what interesting people & celebs were saying. Heck, the probably even heard about Twitter from an advert or some sort of marketing material, so adverts within Twitter won't bother them/me.
