rcardo11··on Suspicious data pattern in recent Venezuelan election
Maduro just responded to a journalist from the Washington Post that they will not be able to show the local vote tallies now because, at this moment, the National Electoral Council is in “a cyber battle never seen before.”
rcardo11··on How to find time to learn after work (2017)
You can't really learn anything just consuming content, you have to put the work. This works for keeping up with news and trends tough.
rcardo11··on Advanced Compilers: Self-Guided Online Course
Same here! well curated resource
rcardo11··on Ask HN: Books that teach programming by building a series of small projects?
This is the best programming book I have ever picked https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Noam-Nisan/dp/0262539802/ref=sr_...
rcardo11··on Unexpected solar weather is accelerating satellites' orbital decay
I'm wondering if this solar cycle can be a reason for the recent wild summer temperatures? Anyone here can confirm?
rcardo11··on Social networks neither ‘social’ nor ‘networks’ – what should we call them?
According to the theory of the author, I've found that Twitter can be used like an actual social network and I do use it like this with a group of friends. It is kind of a cluster and anyone can join only by answering our tweets and hanging out.
rcardo11··on Is Dev Compensation Bimodal? (2016)
My theory: The amount of leverage computers give to us as programmers is not seen in any other field.
rcardo11··on Protocols, Not Platforms: A Technological Approach to Free Speech (2019)
Social media, as search engines and maybe other handful of things, became basic social infrastructure such as roads, goverments will have to pay for the servers where these "open protcols" run and they should be moderated from The Constitution itself.
rcardo11··on Protocols, Not Platforms: A Technological Approach to Free Speech (2019)
> In short, it would push the power and decision making out to the ends of the network, rather than keeping it centralized among a small group of very powerful companies.

This only creates that same echo chamber effect we are trying to avoid.

rcardo11··on Moderna raises 2021 vaccine output forecast to at least 600M doses
Are these US only numbers? 600M sounds like very very few doses given worldwide population and even western world population.
rcardo11··on Jetbrains founders turn billionaires without VC help
I'd like to understand how these guys make money, I've used the free version of IntelliJ for years and never required anymore than this! Does people actually buy licenses ?
rcardo11··on Jetbrains founders turn billionaires without VC help
Some people are calling Jetbrains a startup. Hell no, this is just a normal company which builds great products. Making me realize that the shortest definition of startup is VC-backed-product or even worse, VC-backed-potential-product.
rcardo11··on Colombia is considering legalizing its cocaine industry
Sooner or later all analyses for many problems here in Colombia (e.g. violence, poverty, education, corruption et al) get to the conclusion that drug trafficking influences if it's not the root cause for all of them. If you as the government take the monopoly of drugs then drug trafficking is over and with it many other problems.

The key is, taking that monopoly has side-effects for us like being put on US blacklists which will badly affect our economy in other ways.

We've been talking about this for a long time and have concluded that legalization in the states is the only way [1].

rcardo11··on AWS Cognito is having issues and health dashboards are still green
> This is also causing issues with Amplify, API Gateway, AppStream2, AppSync, Athena, Cloudformation, Cloudtrail, Cloudwatch, Cognito, DynamoDB, IoT Services, Lambda, LEX, Managed BlockChain, S3, Sagemaker, and Workspaces.

Well, this is a major outgage

rcardo11··on One company's plan to build a search engine Google can't beat
Search engines are such a big thing they should be open sourced and distributed over the community. It's like the most basic infrastructure the internet needs to work and we are outsourcing it.
rcardo11··on Honda bucks industry trend by removing touchscreen controls
I still don't get it. For me banning touchscreens from every car interface is a no-brainer.
rcardo11··on List of Twitter mute words for your timeline
Worked fine BUT still seeing "X liked" or "Y retweeted". Any suggestions to get rid of those would be awesome.
rcardo11··on 16-inch MacBook Pro
Still buying refurbrished 2015 model.
rcardo11··on US Constitution – A Git repo with history of edits
I love HN
rcardo11··on Google Achieves Quantum Supremacy. Is Encryption Safe?
That paper just threw a mind-blowing title and abstract but the task they were solving was too narrow. No general-purpose quantum computer for the moment.
rcardo11··on WeWork’s Adam Neumann Steps Down as CEO
Sorry for my ignorance on this, but recently I find that top hacker news articles need a paid subscription. Do you have a trick for accessing them or just everyone here has a paid subscription?
