rearview··on Ask HN: Why are there not more terminal apps?
I guess vibe coding has made a huge change - like a few years we didn't see any such app which was used commercially but have been changed. In future we'd see more apps - being light weight and fast makes life so much easier :-)
rearview··on What if building a CV worked like using a coding agent?
sounds amazing! just always had one question about cv and ATS how does it manages to score with same pipeline to each and everyone every domain and across regions like USA or Europe the format changes so how does it manages that :)
rearview··on Ask HN: Everyone was Jev-maxxing. Why not CDMs now?
That’s right, it’s most likely marketing. The use case is clear enough, but apparently, usefulness alone is not sufficient for people to talk about it.
rearview··on Ask HN: Everyone was Jev-maxxing. Why not CDMs now?
Ha, good point! But even outside my feed, I haven’t seen much mention of it on anyplace, even from people who are all about catching up on the latest trend. Maybe it’s just outside everybody’s bubble right now.
rearview··on Ask HN: Should AI be making decisions, or just make sure you see what matters?
Ha, I wouldn’t either. That’s the point: AI won’t be making decisions here, it just gives you the context and tools to make them faster. What do you think about the idea?
rearview··on Ask HN: What's your plan if AI takes your job?
Farming! I guess :-)
rearview··on Ask HN: Which frontier model can do code security reviews
Yeah Opus 5.5 is great but for code review and security checks I think Astra-6 is really great like it'd go so deep and find bugs so small everybody missed that too with using external skills for review. It found out over 60 bugs and also very token efficient and after that I've done all reviews with Astra only and I'm happy with results :)
rearview··on Ask HN: What're You Reading?
Just recently started watching Reacher S1 and it was absolutely amazing so started reading the book and wow - like its absolutely amazing
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
yeah that's why leaning on react native but the thing is I've had mixed reviews about performance which makes me wonder about this :)
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
not worried about that the real problem I've heard is the performance which I'm worried about. do you have any knowledge about this if so please recommend me something :)
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
is this because of performance or maintainability. or maybe easier development using flutter like I really wanna know before I start things I'm having node.js as backend and not a lot of animations or heavy canvas ui kinda stuff
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
it's not about reusing ui code. it's about already having Node.JS as backend and Next.JS as web frontend and proper layered architecture already there alright! now for mobile going native look a bit too much :(
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
absolutely! got any tips that I should be using while working on it :)
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
what about app size and ram usage like heard bad review about that. I just wanna be sure before I start like real sure :)
rearview··on Ask HN: React Native or Flutter when the back end is Node?
That's why it looks so tempting but the main reason having mixed feelings because of reviews everywhere about React Native that it's doesn't have that kind of performance! And yeah zod and tRPC is a lovely combo for building app loving it with Next.JS
rearview··on Ask HN: How would you know if you have learned something?
what about the process of learning? would love to know your process how you learn and manage that part? how could that phase be enhanced or the experience of learning could be made better?

would love to know your thoughts :)

rearview··on Tell HN: OpenAI $500 ProMax plan listed in API
to be honest wasn't much surprised cause of the current situation like frontier models being so expensive and the models like opus consuming way much more tokens you just can't justify any of that. this token math is just so damned right now :(
rearview··on Ask HN: How would you know if you have learned something?
same here! using ai a lot lately for learning, understanding and most of all this questioning my knowledge. after a careful amount of thinking I really felt like we could have proper context and make it work in a structured manner rather than describing it everytime for everything. what I'm building is still in real early stages and would love to walk you through that. here's the link https://socratix-nine.vercel.app. you can reach out to me janduaditay@gmail.com for any feedback or any problem you're facing with the platform :)
rearview··on Ask HN: What job boards are good these days?
To be honest job boards have become a joke. Like they post jobs there you apply and either you don't hear at all or a rejection mail and this happens everywhere on each board.
rearview··on Show HN: Socratix – an AI tutor for proving mastery, not memorizing
sorry mate! haven't setup things properly focused on working first but real soon would do so! If you don't mind you can give me feedback here or we could schedule a meet sometime! Would really love that :)

Just a few more things that didn't make it into the post:

Stack: Next.js frontend, hosted on Vercel. Course curriculum generation and diagnostics done via LLM calls - I'm not planning to open source the prompt/architecture right now, but happy to dive deeper on specific aspects if people are interested.

Why I built it: I realized that the real failure point for most forms of self-taught learning isn't lack of content - it's that consumption of the content feels like learning even when you're not retaining anything. You watched this lecture or this video? You got it. I wanted something that wasn't complete until you'd proven it.

Limitations of what I've built so far, just to be clear:

AI Viva (voice defense) isn't out yet - it's the next big feature I plan to work on The curriculum graph generator works well enough for structured domains (CS, math, econ), but isn't great for qualitative subjects yet No mobile app, only web version right now

Pricing: Free at the moment, no paid tier yet. No idea how I'm going to monetize it yet either.

Privacy and Security: Supabase with row level security such that users will only ever be able to access their data via the DB layer, and all access is via tRPC procedures (nothing client side), and there's rate limiting in place on the API as well. Once the voice version of Viva comes out, I'll write up details on how voice data is stored.

I would truly appreciate any and all criticism, particularly from anyone who has attempted something like this "prove it" system in the past (the Recurse center, viva based grading systems, etc.).
