rmbeard··on Australian government approves AAPowerLink project to export solar to Singapore
It's a bad idea.
rmbeard··on Noam Chomsky has passed away
Not even economists trust him.
rmbeard··on Show HN: IPython-GPT, a Jupyter/IPython Interface to Chat GPT
You don't need an interface to just prompt and get a response from chatGPT it works pretty much out of the box with the API. I guess these interfaces make the interaction a bit more user friendly though.
rmbeard··on Ask HN: If you’ve considered homeschooling, what’s stopping you?
I'm too old to be homeschooled.

rmbeard··on Microsoft Purview: Additional classifiers for Communication Compliance (preview)
Has this been reported to EFF?
rmbeard··on Excel as Code
No-one is going to pay to version control Excel.
rmbeard··on Where are the robotic bricklayers?
I'm not sure bricklaying makes a lot of sense as a construction method, when you can 3D print a house.
rmbeard··on The US military is starting to get interested in Starship
Shouldn't this be the space force's role not the airforce?
rmbeard··on Atomic Gardening
Should I try this in my back yard?
rmbeard··on Little Free Library
The site doesn't appear to be getting much use, there is one little free library in my neighbourhood and as others have mentioned here in their neighbourhoods as well, but the sites search engine isn't picking these up.
rmbeard··on Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
She's not.
rmbeard··on Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
Joyce, Finnegan's wake: "building supra building..." one could go on but it would never end...
rmbeard··on The Ergodicity Problem in Economics
Exactly.
rmbeard··on The Ergodicity Problem in Economics
This is also not correct, it depends on which economic model you are looking at. Some assume equilibrium some study transitory dynamics to the equilibrium. You can't make general statements like that and expect them to be always true, you need to refer to a specific model not the field as a whole.
rmbeard··on The Ergodicity Problem in Economics
One could always use Choquet expected utility to get around any behavioral objections to the von Neumann or Savage axiomatizations of expected utility theory. Unfortunately this ergodic paper by Peters is simply not a constructive contribution to the debate but rather a red herring.
rmbeard··on Pidgin – A Universal Chat Client
In terms of supported languages why doesn't pidgin support pidgin. Tagio tumas.
rmbeard··on Google sues me for using the word “droid” in my company name Orpheusdroid
I guess George Lucas gets to sue Google now.
rmbeard··on Show HN: Igel – A CLI tool to run machine learning without writing code
Combining it with bash and psql + csvkit + xsv will give you a powerful combination for data ingestion, wrangling and training all on the command line this would seem to have clear benefits for fast development and prototyping.
rmbeard··on What's wrong with social science and how to fix it
This one comes close https://www.nature.com/news/1-500-scientists-lift-the-lid-on...
rmbeard··on The sad state of PDF-Accessibility of LaTex Documents (2016)
OP, here. It's not that long ago, I've used troff myself. Or maybe it was that long ago, but it just seems like yesterday.
rmbeard··on WebWormHole: Send files quickly using WebRTC
So, I tested this but it was blocked by our firewall.
rmbeard··on WebWormHole: Send files quickly using WebRTC
I'm curious how this compares with the DAT project https://docs.dat.foundation/docs/intro I've had issues using that with networks throwing NAT errors, but need a secure P2P file solution for large data transfers. Wondering if this wil do the trick.
rmbeard··on Ask HN: Why aren't there many credible online bachelors programs?
Online Universities at least some of them do offer those things, within the limits of their funding. And that is really the issue - funding.
rmbeard··on Show HN: Codevid-19, a Global and Distributed Covid-19 Hackathon
This is a great intiative, over 800 devs now participating
rmbeard··on Dropbox Transfer
These are often blocked by network configuration and firewalls , although with some effort you can probably by-pass this issue. The dat protocol is a good example.
rmbeard··on Infinite Multiplayer Minesweeper
502 bad gateway
