I always say I don’t know in interviews when I really don’t, rather than try to bluff. Some interviewers don’t like this though. As with the parent, perhaps that’s actually a good thing as you avoid having to work in a bad environment. Other times though, you may be being interviewed with a bad egg who you’ll never actually need to work with in the actual job.

Hi Ned - is this a different role to the one marked as Australia on your website? Just curious about the timezones.

It’s wild someone would call the police for this but it’s also wild that this would be in the news. Couple Freed From Car Park By Police After Losing Ticket.

For the majority of readers who probably won’t know what that is, ReBirth was a soft synthesiser that was the precursor to Propellerheads Reason, one of the most famous DAWs.

> For those sharks who have perished due to becoming bycatch, this allows a unique opportunity to have their livers provide valuable products like biodiesel, squalene, and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) –including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; also icosapentaenoic acid) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Afterall, the major constituents of WSLO are triglycerides (TG), diacylglycerol ethers (DAGE), and squalene.

What a strange article.

The apartment you got several years ago and still have.

That's true, but between 19 and 22 also immense.

Regardless, the point is it's deciding that a person's moral value should be based on what they did in the past and not what they do now.

I agree it wasn’t light at all in the later parts. Very bleak. If it was ever supposed to be a comedy it didn’t end as one but I can’t think of other animated series you could class as a drama.

I think it is one of only about three animated shows that are genuinely outstanding as TV and not just animation or comedy. The other two being Simpsons and Futurama.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I think I might have bought a Google Wave invite a couple of years later :/

I suspect multi account support is not ‘down the priority list’ but purposefully not implemented at least when it comes to iOS. Why make it easier for customers to share iPads at home when they can buy multiple iPads.

I use my iPad so sporadically that it could easily be the house iPad, but I’m signed in with my email and so on it can’t be.

No but Boeing want the public to read things that will reassure them their safety is Boeing’s first priority, until they’ve forgotten about the recent accident.

> Looking back even I found that a bit strange because I understand the thing with doing only harm when someone is leaving. For example by leaving backdoors?

I think the harm meant is more about spreading negativity to other employees who might be inspired to jump ship too.

I use push to talk on the action button on iPhone on the rare occasions I try to make Siri do something for me. I refuse to say 'Hey Siri' like a twit.

It was for the mammoths.

In Uteri.

Given the social transformation in NI across the last twenty years compared to the previous generation it seems more to me like a state going in the right direction. It’s a more cohesive state now than in the 60s 70s or 80s, and even if progress since the peace agreements in the 90s has been slow and uneven it seems the opposite of failed state.

> Also the in application file picker makes it difficult to go up and down directories.

You can use Command up or down keys.

Even if there were, it’s a lot to give away based on a promise.

I don’t know why exactly Thurston Moore was interviewing an at that time almost unknown Beck, but it’s such a funny, strange, but warm interview that I never fail to get a kick out of it.

I didn’t downvote you but I assume it’s because you’re saying a drought is evidence of climate change. Regular droughts might be visible effects of climate change but they can happen during a period of general stability too.

> It's the same with using an LLM for therapy. Many therapists are furious with that, regardless of how effective it has been for many people.

I doubt therapists would get furious at people getting better, regardless of the mechanism, in the same way that doctors wouldn't be furious about a weird trick to cure rheumatism, the common cold, or any other malady.

I share your concern about using an app to deal with a psychological problem, but I think a counterpoint to your concern about this app being one-size-fits-all is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The central premise of CBT is that it doesn't really matter what the roots of the behaviour a patient wants to change are. Reprogramming our behaviours is enough.

This is really the opposite of the old Freudian ideas that a therapist must get to the root of the problem (which might have been in childhood) before progress can be made on the neurosis.

Perhaps the author here is approaching social anxiety from the CBT perspective.

Yes with mixed results.

I think here it’s taking the noun meaning of cost and endeavouring to re-verb it, if you will.

Reduce costs, would be the clearer way to put it.

It's a gig worker problem but it's also a much larger societal problem, particularly in the Irish case. The kids who get involved in those attacks would look for other targets if there were no gig workers.

The roots behind that include poverty, stagnant residential areas with few prospects, and of course lots of other things like more general cultural deficiencies in the national psyche. I'm sure there are good social historians who can describe this far better than I can.

The GP's description of the behaviour as sadistic is pretty on point, I think, and makes it more despicable and worrying than when the cause is financial.

There’s no real desire within the German civil service to make anything more efficient, partially because it would inevitably result in redundancies, partially because of a general malaise and sense of apathy.

Annihilation reminded me of Ballard’s The Crystal World in which all living things are slowly but surely being consumed.
