saaaam··on Instagram ads Facebook won't show you (2021)
I did something similar, years ago, for twitter ads, using autogenerated videos. They didn’t block me, although not sure it would work today:

saaaam··on Extracting Zooming Shots from 600 Hrs of Police Helicopter Surveillance Footage
Hello, it's me, the pearl-clutching, not sane, proselytizing, pseudo-intellectual author of this blog post. Happy to field your many insults/inquiries!
saaaam··on Extracting Zooming Shots from 600 Hrs of Police Helicopter Surveillance Footage
there's a link at the bottom to the code (https://github.com/antiboredom/camera-motion-detector/). I use optical flow and then just count the percentage of pixels that appear to be moving away from the center. If that's bigger than ARBITRARY_THRESHOLD it's a zoom-in.

It is I, the pearl clutcher.

End of an era.
saaaam··on Scrapism
Thanks for sharing this - I'll check it out!
saaaam··on Scrapism
Hi Simon! I'll definitely consider adding that in. Also, I love Datasette!
saaaam··on Scrapism
Hi - I'd be interested to hear more details about what approaches you suggest!
saaaam··on Scrapism
Hi! This is a guide that I started during the pandemic but never quite finished. I’m in the process of re-writing/re-recording some parts of it to bring it back up to date, and adding in the bits that are still missing.
saaaam··on Automatic supercuts on the command line with Videogrep
Yes it definitely depends on the source material… I’ll see about adding it in.
saaaam··on Automatic supercuts on the command line with Videogrep
Thank you! I will definitely take a look at that - looks great.
saaaam··on Automatic supercuts on the command line with Videogrep
Yes that’s possible, but the results are usually not so great!
saaaam··on Automatic supercuts on the command line with Videogrep
Thank you! And it's using moviepy to make the cuts (which is technically speaking the actual hard part).
saaaam··on Automatic supercuts on the command line with Videogrep
amazing - would love to see that!
saaaam··on Automatic supercuts on the command line with Videogrep
Yes, and vosk is really amazing…
saaaam··on NYC Mesh Community Internet
I use Mesh at home as my sole internet provider and I've had a great experience so far. I typically get 80mbps download, and the service has been overall very reliable (although there is an occasional brief outage or slowdown when it's raining hard). The only other option in my building is Optimum, which has its own reliability issues and is much more expensive (~$100/month for 200mbps).
saaaam··on Zoom Escaper: self-sabotage audio, making your presence unbearable to others
It's the setSinkId function which let's you select an audio output (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/HTMLMediaEl...) but it looks like I was mistaken -- it should actually also work with Edge and Opera. Will update the message for clarity...
saaaam··on Zoom Escaper: self-sabotage audio, making your presence unbearable to others
Creator of the Zoom Escaper here... Sadly it relies on a web audio feature that's chrome only. Also too bad because I use firefox as my primary browser.
saaaam··on Show HN: Editly – Declarative command-line video editing
This looks great! Two alternatives if you are interested in doing similar things in python are moviepy (https://zulko.github.io/moviepy/) and vidpy (which I am working on, and still has many issues: https://antiboredom.github.io/vidpy/)
saaaam··on White Collar Crime Risk Zones
Hi. I'm one of the project creators. Happy to answer any questions.
saaaam··on Stupid hacks from stupidhackathon.se
We're having one in NYC on February 25th for those who are interested... http://stupidhackathon.com
saaaam··on Smell.dating
We select them randomly...
saaaam··on Smell.dating
Hey - I worked on Smell Dating (and co-founded Useless Press). Just to be clear, Smell Dating is a real thing - 100 people did in fact sign up, and we've sent them t-shirt samples etc.

saaaam··on 3 Degrees of LinkedIn Separation from the Military-Industrial-Surveillance State
Hi all - I made this. In case anyone is interested, I wrote up a statement about it here: http://greetingsfellowalienatedsubjectoflatecapitalism.com/#...
saaaam··on 3 Degrees of LinkedIn Separation from the Military-Industrial-Surveillance State
Hey - author here. I used casperjs to do the scraping. It was a pain in the ass and I got temporarily banned a few times...
saaaam··on PCKWCK: A real-time serial novel
I run this thing called Useless Press (http://uselesspress.org) - we publish interesting/unusual internet things. We came up with the idea of a real-time novel and then asked Josh and @leyawn if they wanted to participate.
saaaam··on PCKWCK: A real-time serial novel
Hey - I made this. Lemme know if you have any questions or suggestions. Tune in tomorrow at 1pm EST for the live experience.

saaaam··on Audiogrep transcribes audio files and then creates “audio supercuts”
As an intermediate step of merging this into videogrep, I've been using moviepy/audiogrep to make these somewhat unnerving condensed c-span videos:
