I mean, you don't have to. Do you need a Mac? I make mobile apps and Xcode is only on macOS so I definitely need it but most people don't, there are Windows and Linux options that are great for fractions of the price.
Well they essentially did ban the complaints as well as repetitive articles about AI and of course AI generated content too. Now people discuss actually interesting topics. It's not just about the complaints but about whether it's pleasant to read for the average user or not.
r/rust did something similar although more broad, banning code dumps. Other subs like r/programming, r/cscareerquestions, r/experienceddevs banned in part or in full anything related to AI or using AI (unless highly technical) and frankly they're much nicer places to read now, because I don't have to hear about yet another engineer who "lost the love of programming" as if they're the only one. It's a repetitive thread that still gets upvoted highly and is sort of an easy way to farm upvotes and thus is quite annoying to read generally.
Interesting. I feel similarly but use Rust since I don't really have to think about GC or non GC, I use it more as a modern StandardML or OCaml but with much better performance.
Which classics? There is more than the English language in the world. You could even learn every single language and read their classics, much less all good books in human history. You are either underestimating the amount of text corpus that exists or overestimating people's reading and comprehension speed.
Why are you comparing these companies to previous tech companies (at least some of which have, by the way, been able to vertically integrate, like Salesforce and SAP) when AI is completely different from what came before? The real delusion must be thinking it's still a fad like Paul Krugman thought of the internet.
This comment reminded me yet again to always wait for HN comments to settle down after several hours because the first sentence is immediately wrong in multiple ways as people have pointed out such that I'm not sure why one would bother to believe the rest, even though I do have thoughts on how exactly Europe would build, or not.
No, technically speaking, because you are constrained by hardware. But there are many that definitely aren't as good yet still usable for many tasks, such as Qwen 3.8 27 B (and soon the Qwen 4 series too), Gemma for writing and roleplaying, etc.
Vertical integration. They want to control all sectors, that's why OpenAI and Anthropic are slowly rolling out solutions for law, medicine, design and so on.
What are you trying to generate? I've also noticed that local models aren't as good as cloud models due to hardware but there are still ways of optimizing the process.
How does this handle modern art which is very incompressible too? If we take your hypothesis then one could say modern art isn't good, which some do say.
Socialism means workers owning the means of production, not social democracy ie government programs. No country on the planet is socialist, the most there is is some co-ops existing.
