schwap··on Discord is laying off 17 percent of employees
Unless your client base is exclusively the same kind of engineer employed by said company, how could that possibly work well?
schwap··on Make Your Car Electric for 5K in Less Than a Day
Transmissions have their own, independant, lubrication system. It's driven off the input power from the engine.
schwap··on Opinion: The SEC wants to spy on your portfolio
Ah yes, unlike private companies and their sterling record of protecting sensitive information!
schwap··on DIY Espresso (2020)
I'm curious about what off-the-shelf machines you would compare a fully modified gagguino. Granted, I don't have one so I'm only going off the feature set listed on the page, but short of a Decent ($$$$) I can't think of any competitors with features like flow profiles.
schwap··on Valve Restricts Accounts of 2500 Users Who Marked a Negative Game Review Useful
"Hackers"? No. You are being "hilariously" ignorant about the current state of cheating in online games. The vast, vast majority of cheaters could be described most charitably as script kiddies, and even that is a stretch. They pay monthly subscription fees to cheat makers to get the ability to exercise their "freedom" to grief other players.
schwap··on Activision leak details Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 2023 roadmap
Come on, loadouts and the 'gulag' respawn mechanic were clearly novel in the BR space.
schwap··on State of OpenID Connect Providers
The standards for this experience exist with OIDC Discovery[1] and Dynamic Client Registration[2], unfortunately they aren't used but it's not because it isn't supported.

schwap··on Learn Kubernetes with Google
Have you looked into using an ingress controller[1]? Still not quite as easy as a managed LoadBalancer but at least you wouldn't have to configure every single service manually.

edit: of course, not very useful if your services aren't using HTTP.

schwap··on JWT vs. Opaque Tokens
Ironically, authorization downstream of an API gateway is an application that JWTs are a good candidate for.
schwap··on Tipy – One Hand Keyboard
Even in the custom keyboard community the vast, vast majority don't require relearning typing. Whether it's 60%, 75%, split, ortholinear, typing is still basically the same.
schwap··on I used Apple AirTags, Tiles and a GPS tracker to watch my husband’s every move
Skynet was really just the Domino's pizza tracker all along.
schwap··on Why are semi trucks in the US and Europe so different? (2018)
There's nowhere near enough inertia in the rotating assembly of an engine to significantly slow down a vehicle.
schwap··on Koenigsegg's Tiny Electric Motor Makes 335 HP and 443 LB-FT of Torque
It is mathematically impossible for the curves not to cross at 5252.
schwap··on A URL Lengthener
Same. "Your organization's policy prohibits access to websites categorized as Tasteless & Offensive.". How rude!
schwap··on Voltswagen of America
I've decided that it must be the 'correct' pronunciation because "Sharl LeclerK" doesn't make sense for either language.
schwap··on Panasonic’s Innovative Augmented-Reality HUD Could Be in Cars by 2024
The article says it takes 300ms to update the position of the HUD to match your gaze, not 300ms to update what's displayed on the HUD.
schwap··on Players Blame Skill-Based Matchmaking for Losing in Call of Duty
I think the difference is "content creators", although they are high level players, are more putting on a show. Kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters instead of an NBA game.
schwap··on Thoughts Pertaining to Youth, Hot Rodders, and Chevrolet (1953) [pdf]
Long, long before the LS was even a twinkle in an engineer's eye, the the 1st generation chevy small block V8 was the most common choice for hot rods.
schwap··on Bodycam video leads to dropped charges for local men accused of resisting arrest
It's not that simple. Hypothetically, I beat my wife. The neighbors call the police. Now I can find out what my wife may have told the police in confidence.
schwap··on The Rolling, Lurching, Vomit-Inducing Road to a Seasickness Cure
Gravol makes a ginger version.
schwap··on Belgian man has been receiving pizzas he never ordered for years
I'm wondering if this whole situation is the universe trying to show this poor guy what good pizza is.
schwap··on My robotic basketball hoop won't let you miss [video]
Yes and...? Neither Linux (normally) or MacOS an RTOS, what would he gain by switching to them?
schwap··on The weird, get-rich-quick world of dropshipping
Maybe it's a commonwealth thing but 'expat' was a pretty common term when I was living in the US as a Canadian.
schwap··on Sweden to shut bars and restaurants that ignore coronavirus restrictions
They don't want to see any restaurants that are full, not a statement about restaurants that are fully open-air.
schwap··on When in doubt: hang up, look up, and call back
Yeah, every time my credit card provider has needed to contact me, they send me an recorded message telling me to call the number on my card.
schwap··on Show HN: Tom Nook's Laptop
The UI looks linux-y to me. Windows never really had a large "dock".
schwap··on How coronavirus infected my brain: anxiety, the internet, and keeping up to date
Yeah same, vidoeconferencing with friends is better than nothing but still doesn't hold a candle to actually hanging out for me.

Basically this whole exercise has lead me to discover that while I assumed I was pretty introverted because I'm not generally outgoing, I'm really not.

Also I'm a total night owl and being at home all the time has seriously messed up my sleep schedule. Last night I went to bed at 3AM.

schwap··on Mysterious heart damage, not just lung troubles, befalling Covid-19 patients
FWIW anecdotally, I notice my resting HR is often elevated any time I'm sick, or even hungover.
schwap··on The Ungainly History of Nascar’s Wing Era
The same team has won the last 6 F1 championships, clearly not everything that helps them win is being banned.
schwap··on Why Adventure Games Suck (1989)
> 2. Games are 'balanced' and therefore limit the upside for a potential great strategy I might come up with.

Wouldn't a 'balanced' game make the impact of strategy even greater? Many of the most strategic games in the world like chess or go are balanced.

> 4. Less need to prove myself in competition with my peers through games and play (which is aparently a fundamental thing for children)

It's never been easier to find and compete against the best in the world at games. If you're good enough at an online game you can find yourself essentially playing pick-up basketball against LeBron James.

> 7. Computer work makes me want to get away from computers eventually.

Yeah agreed on this one for sure.
