scsteps··on Offpunk 2.0
Is this for any sort of web content?
scsteps··on My First PCB (2019)
Wow, building physical tech feels so much more approachable because of stuff like this
scsteps··on FastClick: A new architecture for programmable network infrastructure
I’m not at all familiar with networking tech in general, but is Click a commonly used tech? A modular and configurable router sounds pretty cool
scsteps··on Show HN: React Spreadsheet 2
This is so cool! Wish you the best
scsteps··on Ask HN: Any learning resources or hype materials for project management?
Wow thank you so much for all these great resources! I think I’ll start with the article you shared. Also, I guess this is me being ignorant, but it’s amazing how vast the PM field is. Excited to dive in. I will most likely be reading all of the materials you’ve share with me.

Also, I checked your profile! I wish I knew your Twitter handle or some other ways to keep in touch somehow. But oh well! I won’t push for it.

scsteps··on Ask HN: Any learning resources or hype materials for project management?
Thank you! I will check this out :)

Update: this book looks like it came out in 2008. Still relevant?

scsteps··on Ask HN: Blog with no marketing effort – what's the likely amount of traffic?
Interesting! Roughly speaking how many articles have you published on this site?
scsteps··on Ask HN: Is Express still "de-facto" for building Node back ends?
Woah that’s a very valid point
scsteps··on My thoughts on starting an online business as someone who's never done it before
Yup! I’ve seen them both. It really is a grind to get to the point where something actually sticks. The biggest skill I think I need is just shipping really fast
scsteps··on Acting your wage will atrophy your abilities – DHH
Agreed. I had this problem for a while but realized I wasn’t doing myself any favors.
scsteps··on I try to answer “how to become a systems engineer”
Systems engineering is actually an overloaded term and that Wikipedia article is correct. The author’s definition is also correct of course. Just talking about different things.
scsteps··on Go with PHP
It’s cool to see PHP getting its second heyday once again. It’s currently a perfect storm of two communities starting to notice PHP. From the JavaScript side, people are comparing React with PHP, and on the bootstrapped start up side, people are talking about just using a single index.php file for your entire product without dealing with a complex tech stack as inspired by Pieter Levels.
scsteps··on Ask HN: Webmasters, how do you deal with harmful content?
Wow, these are all great suggestions, thank you! Especially creating an environment where their reputation matters is an interesting point. My biggest concern is images more than text (though they can both cause a lot of damage). If it takes that much manpower I might not even allow any images in the first place like HN.
scsteps··on New Yorkers want to stop landlords from using facial recognition
Sad that this is happening and sad that it had to come to online shaming to make changes happen.
scsteps··on how Figma draws inspiration from the gaming world
Yes, I always felt like building highly interactive user interfaces is like building a game. I guess it feels even more like that if it’s “multiplayer” like Figma.
scsteps··on I want to talk about WebGPU
If the browser ever becomes a popular platform for mainstream games then I suspect the quality of web applications will also boom just because of all the talent pouring into the browser as a platform.
scsteps··on Show HN: Reactive DOM Updates in Ruby
I think this is really awesome. I’m doing a deep dive in how various “backend languages” are being used to create interactive front ends (i.e. Phoenix LiveView) and I might even look into this as another example.
scsteps··on You and Your Research (1986)
I’ve always had trouble balancing between working on things that I consider to be important vs things that I am excited about. In my experience I’ve always gotten good results from the things I’m excited about and not what I consider to be important.

Should I consider what I feel excited to be important? Personally, sure, but objectively speaking the world might not think that way.

scsteps··on Storage on Vercel
Very nice. I really wanted this to happen.
scsteps··on Composable Moderation
Once any website with user generated content becomes big enough, content moderation becomes one of its biggest concern. It’s smart that Blue Sky is invite only for now while they work on the moderation part.

Composable moderation is an interesting concept as the baseline is set by the app, but users/community can create their own moderation rules on top of it.

scsteps··on Ask HN: Android is rapidly losing the US market. What can Google do about this?
The biggest challenge for android IMO is Apple's Messages. It's clearly a degraded experience having an android user in the GC that some people will create a second GC without the android user in it.
scsteps··on My product is my garden (2020)
I really like this analogy because I too would like to one day have a nice small garden of small products. I see this pursuit more as a fun hobby than a career path.
scsteps··on Ask HN: "Considered Harmful is All You Need” and other viral paper titles?
I guess more blog titles than actual papers, but:

“How I learned to stop worrying and love the X”.

“The X is dead, long live the X!”

Edit: One more- “X part 2: Electric Boogaloo”

scsteps··on Ask HN: How to learn to be good at conversations with anyone?
I would discount the “anyone” part. A good conversation requires the other person being a decent conversationalist as well. With that said I think with practice and self-awareness anyone can improve their conversation skills.
scsteps··on Ask HN: Most interesting tech you built for just yourself?
I created a little mind dumping text app that I use on the daily. Originally it was intended as a throwaway little app but turned out to be my most used app that I’ve created.

I am currently working on a todo list that stores all info in the browser only.
