selcuka··on Search for everyone
> Anyone can change their DNS and use DNS over https

Not if the machine is locked down. Blocking all search engines is not a feasible approach, though, hence the Safe Search mechanism.

> Also blocking the search is pretty weird, what prevents me of typing the URL directly?

That URL can be blocked at the router level, but one can still see cached search engine images when safe search is off.

selcuka··on Investors wipe $2.5T off Nasdaq as blue tsunami prompts AI fears
> dems are the Luddite anti-tech party now

Really? Why can't we call them pro-life, since their stance favours living organisms?

selcuka··on MCP Explained
SSD offloading [1]:

> Unsloth Desktop + llama.cpp enables ~3x faster DeepSeek-V4.1 inference than other CPU/VRAM/ngram repos. DeepSeek and runs locally on 128GB+ RAM setups or 64GB RAM (slower).

selcuka··on GUI64 – GUI for the Commodore 64 running on top of the built-in ROM
GEOS comes with its own ROM and bypasses the Commodore 64 "Kernal". This one is a GUI that runs on existing ROM.
selcuka··on Why are car keys so expensive to replace?
Not all of them are that expensive. From memory, I paid AU$200 for a genuine Toyota RAV4 key at the dealership (including cutting and reprogramming), which is about US$140.
selcuka··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
> As a result, city streets are frequently blocked by delivery drivers.

How is it different than customers driving to the restaurant? Are you suggesting that there should be less restaurants, or people should use public transport to pick up food?

selcuka··on Proton goes all in on using AI
> aren’t as viable an alternative to Google for those who want a fully integrated suite

Don't worry, they can vibe code the rest in no time. /s

selcuka··on Proton goes all in on using AI
Setting up a snitch network to "ruthlessly smash everything that stands in the way" suggests that you are a bad guy.
selcuka··on Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure
> It's going to be funny when AI soon costs 4x or more than it does now

What exactly will cause that? Hardware costs are (generally) going down, and open weight models are getting smarter. The subsidised subscription prices will go away, sure, but I don't see the average token getting more expensive.

selcuka··on New 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6
A touchscreen laptop is only a good idea if it can also be used like a tablet (with a detached keyboard). Otherwise it's useless.
selcuka··on GPT-6.1 Terra
I guess the question is whether you could have done the same using Haiku High/XHigh or Opus Low/Medium at roughly the same speed and cost.
selcuka··on Cognitive Mercantilism: AI panic resembles fears of early capitalism
It is correct. The richest 10% now earn 53% of global income. The top 10% average income/bottom 50% average income ratio has went from 18x to 38x in the last 200 years.
selcuka··on PaperPilot – Zero-Cloud, Pure-Rust PDF Engine with WASM and MCP
> It read to me as a case of: "only webpages are software, and I'm afraid of the command line".

I think you've missed this part:

> Terminal CLI: High-throughput local processing and bash scripting.

selcuka··on Oregon Police Are Charging a Local News Outlet $2.5M for Records About One Cop
> They're both real possibilities.

Of course, but the fact that there are two possibilities does not mean that they are equally probable. The GP "worked at a local government" and they say that "delaying or charging a lot was [...] employed internally."

selcuka··on Amazon’s “digital pacifier” for toddlers
Why does it have to be a film camera? A "real" camera can still be a digital one.
selcuka··on Amazon’s “digital pacifier” for toddlers
> If you go back 100 years old children were abused far more

I don't understand the argument here. 100 Years ago they were abused more, but last year they were abused less. So increasing the dosage of the abuse is ok as long as it doesn't exceed your random benchmark of 100 years ago?

selcuka··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
What happens when your competitors invest in better and more expensive tools or materials in general? They (potentially) make better products, but those products also cost more. It's turtles all the way down.
selcuka··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
> It is not cheaper than using a frontier lab

Are you comparing to subscription prices or API prices? Because if it's the former it won't last forever.

selcuka··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
> Over the coming weeks, we will add an invisible watermark to eligible ChatGPT and Codex text output in the European Union.

https://openai.com/index/eu-text-provenance/

selcuka··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
It depends on how you use your subscription. If you are "vibe coding" and spinning up a lot of subagents in parallel, a $10-20 subscription won't be enough. If you usually open one or two terminals at a time, and use it like you are peer programming with it, then Anthropic (Opus 5.5) or OpenAI (Sol 6.1) are the best $20 subscriptions.
selcuka··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
ChatGPT output is watermarked, but I guess the "invisible unicode" trick is easy to circumvent, and TextGrain is only activated for EU users.
selcuka··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
People executed in the first half of 2025 spent an average of 24 years on death row. In practice, it's a life sentence plus execution. I believe the $1-3M figure is on top of this.
selcuka··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
But they were already paying for the crimes of an individual, in the form of time wasted, and parking fees. Their suggestion was about minimising it.
selcuka··on mitmproxy adds --emudhra option
Can't you install your own CA to Android phones?
selcuka··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
> We would usually wash them anyway when we arrived because I’m crazy.

We wash the dishes (and sheets, if there is a dryer) when we arrive, and descale the electric kettle and the coffee machine. I guess I'm crazy too.

selcuka··on Verisign .com Domain Name Registry Consumer Class Action
True. I'm not aware of a $500K+ bonus system for "engineers, support staff, lawyers, and some supporting roles like finance and security/compliance" in America.
selcuka··on Verisign .com Domain Name Registry Consumer Class Action
Sure, but remember that Verisign manages a total of 179 million domains. They also have less than 1,000 employees. Can they really have a salary cost of >$530K per employee? It's obviously the executive team that pockets most of that cost.
selcuka··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
> Is there a directory of private equity acquisitions?

CrunchBase is usually accurate:

selcuka··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
> But we are talking about saving 10$/year? That's less than 1$/mo.

I agree in principle, but businesses commonly own more than one domain name, so the costs add up.
