1) I'm working on implementing Markdown and will be using friendly headings once we sort that out.
2) I love this idea! In fact, it's been on my wishlist for some time now -- I plan on shipping it this week. I've been calling it "Snapshot Backup", but I think "Archive" is a much better word for it. Thank you :)
The reason I'd like to add it is because having switched over from TextEdit and Evernote, the one thing I miss are the Cmd+B,I,Us etc.
The keyboard shortcut is Cmd/Ctrl + /
Actually, you can already use Ctrl+Numbers -- command is essentially just an alias for Macs (i.e. the Shortcuts modal is the misleading part).

Right now it's: Thoughts, Code, 5iler, Today, Private
Out of curiosity, which browser are you using? As far as I'm aware, I didn't build in any Cmd+N hijacking into the app (I did do Cmd+S for syncing/saving though, and Cmd+1,2,3,4,5 for switching between files -- is that what you mean?).
Had a few complaints about the font, working on adding customization in the next version.

60k unique visitors does sound like a lot, but it's not a drop in the hat of the amount of people that read Reddit or Digg or TechCrunch. So in a way, I actually feel good about this being a site that is smaller and more focused than those other ones, which really are the true depressants, so to say. Nobody on HN is out here to flame anyone, and most of them are thoughtful, intelligent people -- the kind I want to be with.
What I'm trying to say is, if you find HN frightening, the world is beyond anything you can imagine. There are people who are smarter than you, work harder than you, in better/more happening places than you, and naturally more rewarded than you. So then, being on HN gives me some comfort in knowing that there are people who are sort of like me, and who are also navigating the same world I am. Instead of comparing myself to these people, I'm just glad that they exist.
- Some services aren't meant to be taken to 'the next level'. You should weigh its opportunity and make the appropriate decision. For me, it was to realize that I'd built something 'timeless' that didn't need next-levelling and re-iteration, so I chose to leave it like it is and be content with its 2,000+ daily users. I figured I'd spend my time on other things that had a bigger inherent opportunity than beat a horse that just fundamentally isn't inclined to go far enough.
- When it comes to making money, there are 2 basic options services like ours have: donations and iPhone app. I was lucky to have built a fantastic userbase from the get-go, so the same people who purchased my iPhone app also have given around $600 - $700 in donations when I've requested for it. Sure, it's no major money, but it's enough to support my time and energy and hosting costs, and I'm content with it.
- Appreciate your trickled traffic. I noticed today that 2,000 people have been using my service EVERY DAY for the last 2 years. That means something to me. Not every service is supposed to be a pageview-generating machine. What's important to me is that 2,000 people take the time to go to my website and write down their private thoughts every day. I'd rather have this than 10,000 meaningless pageviews from Google.
Thanks
