simmerup··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
> Condeming vaping as being equally bad as smoking is irresponsible and unscientific and prevents proven harm reduction for heavy smokers.

I never said this did I.

Also you’re talking about smokers moving to vaping, whereas at the moment plenty of people are going straight to vaping due to people over arguing how harmless it is compared to smoking.

simmerup··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
Vaping definitely isnt healthy for you.

It's not really the nicotine that causes the obvious damage though. Studies have shown that the vape smoke stimulates the vagus nerve which causes changes in the cardiovascular system that could likely cause heart disease

On top of that it’s obvious that what goes into the lungs generally stays in the lungs, and vapes are full of all sorts of weird flavours and e numbers

But the truth is even if you were vaping water all day it would likely still damage your cardiovascular system

Unguarded LLMs create knowledge just like that, im not sure why you would consider it nonsense.

In my experience the worst dressed definitely have more self confidence about their ability, rightly or wrongly
simmerup··on Study links GLP-1 drugs to bigger jump in women's employment than a degree
Nah I see this as a bald dude. When I wear a cap people smile at me, make conversation, etc

Not when I’m clearly bald though

People treat you better when you look better it’s sad but true

simmerup··on Agentic Code Quality
> For much of human history, we’ve evaluated code quality via code review

For the vast majority of human history we didn’t even have written language, let alone code reviews

simmerup··on The Gargantuan Lie That Is Collapsing the Climate
Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s bullshit.

Global economy could face 50% loss in GDP between 2070 and 2090 from climate shocks, say actuaries

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/16/economic...

German scientists warn global warming is accelerating faster than expected, raising the risk of a 3 °C rise by 2050 https://worldcrunch.com/focus/green-or-gone/global-warming-a...

simmerup··on The Gargantuan Lie That Is Collapsing the Climate
Alternatively, think of an alcoholic telling his doctor ‘you told me to stop drinking 5 years ago but i’m still fine’

It’s a slow train, but the damage is cumulative and it will get us eventually.

simmerup··on The Gargantuan Lie That Is Collapsing the Climate
An emotional reaction is rational.
simmerup··on The Gargantuan Lie That Is Collapsing the Climate
So just crack on with a +3 degree rise.

So much for human ingenuity, when being able to buy plastic shit on amazon is prized over having a temperate world.

We wouldn’t want anything to threaten the line going up.

simmerup··on Don't be a meat proxy
You can also respond ‘I don’t know’ instead of doing the equivalent of responding with the first page of an ‘I feel lucky’ google search

simmerup··on A Rant About “Technology” (2005)
That’s not hard sci-fi though. Something like Stephen Baxter’s work is hard sci-fi, the ansible was just a plot device
