singpolyma3··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
Yes this is true of some of course. But if it were true of all nothing would happen
singpolyma3··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
Break even is staying is business :)

And you do it to provide the product/service, provide for your workers, etc

singpolyma3··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
And yet even while you indolently phone it in, if you're any good they make a lot more off you than they pay you.
singpolyma3··on AI promised less work. I've never worked more
By law or by collective bargaining
singpolyma3··on Washing machines took decades to catch on
Given that that's all anyone talks about for at least several decades I don't think it's "nobody"
singpolyma3··on Washing machines took decades to catch on
I imagine there was also the ethical concern of putting all those people out of work...
singpolyma3··on Canadians are running out of time to oppose Bill C-22
Had two seats literally one election ago and are looking likely to get that second one back.

I know two seats is not "a force" but saying they'll never have another than one seems silly in this context.

singpolyma3··on Broccoli2Shell: Brotli decoder RCE in Node.js, Python and more
We don't need new versions of http or SMTP because they're already simple and great and they're dumb protocols so there's not much you could ever add

If you want something else you can take your pick based on need from dozens of other options

singpolyma3··on Canadians are running out of time to oppose Bill C-22
Except for my entire 20s the conservatives were in power, so...
singpolyma3··on What shall I teach my son?
So long as the primary purpose of school is to babysit children while their parents "work" it can never be supplanted by anything educational.
singpolyma3··on I built a programming language that LLMs can't use
The author already did and they were pretty good at it.
singpolyma3··on Chrome and Edge are removing XSLT: what breaks and what does not
HTML but allowing XML compatible syntax to be valid.

XHTML5 sort of gets us there, but parsing in standard HTML5 mode still won't do the right thing with eg <b />

singpolyma3··on Chrome and Edge are removing XSLT: what breaks and what does not
That's what browsers at the time did. But the format could be used with a lenient parser if anyone wanted that
singpolyma3··on We Still Use Paper
They're going to do all those things with or without AI. We need to fight the end goals at a social level rather than the temporary means
singpolyma3··on Tell HN: Remember to migrate away from .name domain
They wouldn't need to "do that" that's how it already works. They're actively undoing that
singpolyma3··on 90% of US working hours are spent on tasks not covered well by AI benchmarks
I not think people count robots are AI. Unless they're intelligent robots.
singpolyma3··on Jev meets the Trolley Problem
I think this has already happened.
singpolyma3··on How to Build Wealth as a Career Person
Yes sure, some kind of middle class job is worth it. But most of the article it about how to get minor gains inside that middle class job
singpolyma3··on How to Build Wealth as a Career Person
If you're at 5 million you're already well past wealthy and should probably not be stressing about this.
singpolyma3··on How to Build Wealth as a Career Person
It takes over two thirds of the article to get to the actually relevant advice: spend less, invest the difference.

Kissing ass at work might help you but not nearly as much as this two ideas.

singpolyma3··on I would like the value of my home to rise, while my property taxes fall
If you own a house you are the wealthy. If you own a house on which it is possible to owe significant property tax you are the very wealthy.
singpolyma3··on Talorys – A self-hosted personal AI agent on Cloudflare's free tier
Used to be broader. Some people wish to narrow it
singpolyma3··on Talorys – A self-hosted personal AI agent on Cloudflare's free tier
I think the opposite. 20 years ago self hosting almost always meant "in a data centre" but as home internet got better people started to think "or maybe in my basement" and now it's swung so far that a few think if it's not in your basement it's not self hosting
singpolyma3··on I would like the value of my home to rise, while my property taxes fall
Why should there be a cap? If you're so rich as to own some property, why do you need protection from paying a reasonable rate of tax?
singpolyma3··on Lobbying is corruption
I not think anyone means "talk to representative" when they say "lobbying" unless it is accompanied by contributions
singpolyma3··on Lobbying is corruption
The beginning? I think we're at least towards the middle by now...
singpolyma3··on Lobbying is corruption
No, that's not called lobbying. It's lobbying when it involves paying for access. If you're just making calls and writing letters it's just advocacy not lobbying
singpolyma3··on Lobbying is corruption
Great example, since in practise goto is essential
singpolyma3··on No Man Is an Island
What about all the intellectual communities springing up around AI use?
singpolyma3··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
It is open source
