thanks and agreed! we see a massive distrust in traditional legacy media, and hopefully PodSnacks can give readers more control about how they access those voices.

siruva07··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (April 2025)
yep. won't go into each cost, but it's primarily:

1) transcription (Assembly) 2) summarization (Claude) 3) podcast database (listennotes) 4) emails (postmark) 5) application hosting (render)

PodSnacks (https://podsnacks.org) — Personalized AI summaries of top podcasts, delivered to your inbox.

I've been building PodSnacks because I found it overwhelming to keep up with podcasts across tech, business, and science. PodSnacks uses LLMs to summarize the most popular episodes from shows like Lex Fridman, Acquired, All-In, Invest Like the Best, and more.

You choose your favorite shows, and we email you short, high-signal summaries — no audio to skim through, no endless backlog guilt.

So far:

126K+ episode summaries generated 92K+ hours of podcasts processed 48–50% open rates 2,900+ early users

Still iterating and adding features like bundling by theme, language translations, and audio feeds.

If you're the kind of person who wants more inputs without more noise — would love for you to check it out.

Always open to feedback from HN!

siruva07··on Show HN: PodSnacks (Podcasts summarized with AI, to your inbox, $1 per hour)
There is an API called listennotes for podcast data including audio file. Download and run it through a speech ai model.

Trust in news orgs is at an all time low. And news orgs (Wapo, Buzzfeed, CNN) will need to figure out their strategy in AI. Snacks Media (Podcasts, News, Events, etc) will leverage tech to build an AI News Company. The plan will be to allow anyone to even bring their own LLM—right now it’s Claude because that’s where we first got developer access.

Monetization is $1/hr for summaries. And we’ll include ads at scale.

Happy to answer any other questions.

siruva07··on Request for Startups: Climate Tech
YC was very early to climatetech with a RFS for water back in 2017.

https://www.ycombinator.com/blog/request-for-startups-water/

Most people don't equate watertech with climatetech, but climate change is primarily a water crisis—flood & drought—and we need more entrepreneurs in watertech.

If you are building something in watertech, ping me, I'm happy to help.

siruva07··on Mac OS 9
I can hear "Sosumi" while clicking around :)

"Sosumi is an alert sound introduced by Jim Reekes in Apple Inc.'s Macintosh System 7 operating system in 1991. The name is derived from the phrase "so, sue me!" because of a long running court battle with Apple Corps, the similarly named music company, regarding the use of music in Apple Inc.'s computer products."

siruva07··on Ask HN: How do you start a startup in your 30s when you have wife/kids/mortgage?
You don't. Pick the right startup to work for. Employee #100 at Facebook made a lot more than most startup founders ever did.
siruva07··on Show HN: PodSnacks (CliffsNotes for Podcasts)
Understood and I appreciate your time.

Wishing you my best with Headlamp!

Re: Hiding author name, understood on the nitpick. Hopefully more snack makers soon...and a great name for people writing the PodSnacks!

Re: Feature Request, we tried that in this post 1) 1:46:55 https://www.podsnacks.org/xy-the-real-story-about-covid-vacc... 2) 24:11 https://www.podsnacks.org/-inequality-and-revolution/

Is that what you had in mind?

We've also been thinking about an audio product, like a 5-minute digest, so thank you for the validation / feedback!

siruva07··on From seawater to drinking water, with the push of a button
Maybe. I think Atmospheric Water Generators are much More likely to change the game since they don’t need a body of water other than the atmosphere.

siruva07··on Ask HN: How did you move on from past experiences?
Plant medicine was transformational for me to closing one chapter and opening the next.

Forming new neurological pathways was a significant way of creating new memories which allowed me to move on much easier.

Godspeed on your journey.
