[ my public key: https://keybase.io/sjs; my proof: https://keybase.io/sjs/sigs/-vO94p-56G_i11SdZnMOviltxYxNXZqPSIjC_K5XmJU ]I'm a full-stack developer living in Houston and working at an advertising agency in New Orleans, LA.
A few projects:
• http://artpacks.org - A History of PC ANSI & ASCII Art, from 1990-present.
• http://aboutbrowser.com - A troubleshooting tool that allows users to easily share their browser info (version, plugins, features & CSS capabilities) with developers.
It doesn't need to be anywhere near perfect. It'll be good enough in aggregate.
If it miscategorizes some things, it's not a big deal.
I actually pushed a lot of updates to it just this past week. There's keyboard and swipe/gesture navigation, too.
Say more about that
One more datapoint to reference in the future when evaluating Google's long term promises and commitments. "No, we mean it this time."
I do. I have OCD. Redundant systems and being able to confirm things are key for me.
> I would understand a child leaving the door open but a teenager doing it that often is kind of wild?
Teens can be absent minded. You might be shocked by how common it is for families with teens to replace a set of forks that just disappeared one by one.
> wouldn't a reminder beep that starts when the door has been open for 5 minutes be better? Must everything be on your phone? It's not even actionable if you're not in the house, where you'd hear a local beep.
It does beep when opened too long.
Remote notifications are the point. They are actionable: when I get the remote notification, I shoot off a text "close the fridge".
- Reminders to change the ice/water filter get sent to my phone. There's an indicator light, but the phone notification is nice, too. The app also records when the filter was changed—useful to confirm that I'm "tasting" that the filter needs changed early.
- When we had a teenager living with us, getting remote notifications that the refrigerator door was left open probably saved us a few fridge-fulls of food.
Other than that, it's just a fridge that works reasonably well. My one complaint has nothing to do with smart features: about once per year I have to spend 5 mins to defrost the ice maker with a hairdryer. Just infrequent enough for me not to investigate the source of the problem.
[0] I don't say "smart" here because nothing's really smart/automated and it doesn't have a screen, speaker, microphone or camera. RF28R7201SR/AA if you're curious.
I'm more interested in seeing how others are prompting and working with LLMs than the result itself.
Care to share?
Are they stuck? What's preventing them from using open models or creating models more suited for those tasks?
Keep both. AI and banning AI are both high-interest topics.
From a quick scan of his recent tweets, https://www.therepository.email/matt-mullenwegs-messages-wen... might answer the "why now?" of this.
> Who is Eligible
> TSA PreCheck members and those with Known Traveler Numbers (KTNs).
Alternatively, they could have designed booths without unnecessary steps. But sure, blame it on the ADA.
Not necessarily re: resource usage but rather: it does a lot more than what I have any interest in using. I just use it to expose books to my 2 ereaders (via OPDS) and to sync reading progress (via koreader-sync).
I use it:
- To tell the time
- Set one-off timers/alarms
- Recurring silent/vibration alarms throughout the day
Wake up, start work, mid-morning break/checkpoint, lunch, end lunch, mid-day break/checkpoint, 30 minutes before "clock out", end of work day, and medication reminders
- For silent/vibration notifications (HEAVILY filtered. Mostly messages from VIPs, security camera notifications, reminders, "rain in 15 minutes")
- Set reminders "Remind me tomorrow morning to schedule a vet appointment"
- Add things to different shopping lists (grocery list, shopping list, etc)
- Quick, short-term notes ("10 M4x20mm screws")
- Casual health tracking: sleep, step count, activity minutes, etc
Almost every one of my interactions with it is via voice/Gemini.
