Avoid: Pijul. I doubt it will succeed in getting wide adoption. Some of the reasons already covered by others comments in this thread so don't want to repeat.
Wish: I really wish darcs was rebooted and made a comeback. What can we do to make it happen? I heard a version 3 is a work in progress. I am also aware of this new initiative (GitHub equivalent but for darcs): https://smeder.ee
(looks like they got acquired and had some big companies using them so google using something similar I imagine: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/css-corp-acquires-s...)
1) https://dokku.com - lets you turn your light sail instance basically into heroku
4) If you have aws credits this is their heroku equivalent: https://aws.amazon.com/elasticbeanstalk
above is not what I do but would be the options I would pursue if I understand your preference and requirement correctly.

https://www.scalanews.net/Resources/Blog_Directory.html

All 3 of them open source and you can host yourself. If you don't want to self host all 3 have options for you.
I am currently self hosting Matomo and am happy with it.
Fun timing for you to ask as just running a poll to see what others are using:
I don't know if best, but I know it well and with the repl and existence of notebooks like Jupiter (https://realpython.com/jupyter-notebook-introduction/) it gives me the tools to get started and teach quickly.
Interested to see what resources others share as I not using any right now just my own knowledge of python. I did have kids learn scratch using a book as a prequel.
I did come across this book but still have not decided if I will use it:
Personal opinion as a frequent conference attendee, I do not like pre-recorded talks.
I see why they are doing it, but I think its at the expense of conference experience.
There will be less motivation to be there to watch when you can view online later.
What alternatives are people using?
Fun fact: As well as caps lock, it has a function key lock without having to touch anything in macos preferences.
Wish we would see more adoption of Freebsd and NixOS in the future.
For now I like my Debian :-)
