squirrel6··on Germany Moves Closer to a Social Media Ban for Those Under 16
Or this kind of regulatory pressure will cause these businesses to stop adding social media functionality into their scope
squirrel6··on Clay Christensen's Milkshake Marketing (2011)
This is all very true. I always try to push for customer interviews to be as much about formulating new hypotheses as they are about validating existing hypotheses.
squirrel6··on Microsoft is killing Skype
Sure but since most of its components have been Frankensteined into MS Teams it lives on right?
squirrel6··on Facebook paid GOP firm to malign TikTok
This is going to be one of those things where people look back in 50 years and the motives and playbook will be so obvious
squirrel6··on SF Purity Test
Blue bottle at South Park would still be there at least :)
squirrel6··on Should more of us be moving to live near friends?
No
squirrel6··on Cannabis pollen dispersal across the United States
I never thought about this. It would be interesting to run mass spec on resin samples from different growers to see the interval of genetic variation
squirrel6··on Cannabis pollen dispersal across the United States
The fact that cannabis is so genetically unstable is very interesting. The root cause of the problem is that the level of CBD or THC produced by the plant in the resin is a result of polygenic expression— in other words, even if you have two strains of CBD-dominant crop, pollination can still result in increased THC in the next generation of the plant.
squirrel6··on The t-test was invented at the Guinness brewery
This was in my textbook and my professor covered it as well! Class of 17 here
squirrel6··on Jim Simons has died
Not to mention Math for America, which is one of the best funded organizations of its kind…
squirrel6··on Cardio fitness is a strong, consistent predictor of morbidity and mortality
I’m going to plug Peter Attia, MD again here. In his podcast with Mike Joyner, MD (an exercise physiologist of Mayo Clinic) there is fairly detailed discussion of the literature on this topic.
squirrel6··on FDA clears first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor
I have been doing CGM for 7 months now and the learning has been invaluable. My metrics were never in the danger zone but I feel like I’ve learned so much about how many different factors play into insulin resistance and have managed to build much healthier habits over time.
squirrel6··on I applied for a software role at FedEx and was asked to take a personality test
These kinds of things that are basically substitutes for an IQ test (versus tests that purport to measure a specific type of specific technical aptitude) should be banned for employment screening, IMO. Where do we draw the line?
squirrel6··on "Sugar Alcohols Ruined My Health: Learn from My Mistakes" [video]
I have experienced some of these issues myself. I find that it becomes more tolerable (and also more palatable) when I use a blend of natural sugar and artificial sweetener like erythritol or stevia.
squirrel6··on Judge blocks JetBlue from acquiring Spirit Airlines
There’s not a lot of room for effective restructuring here — for Spirit it’s more of a revenue problem rather than just a debt service problem. They’d probably end up in Chapter 7 (liquidation) pretty soon after starting Chapter 11 proceedings
squirrel6··on Judge blocks JetBlue from acquiring Spirit Airlines
I agree with you even though I think some will view this as a hot take. It is interesting that the US government has historically subsidized both smaller telcos and airlines to fill these types of small gaps where they exist.
squirrel6··on The Downfall of Boeing – An Insider's Perspective (2003)
This is incredible, what a harbinger. This is a great dissection of how things went wrong. A number of other companies have also followed this narrative, albeit not as memorably
squirrel6··on Updates on Grounding of Boeing 737 MAX 9 Aircraft
True, I’ve heard and read that many pilots prefer the cockpit config over the 737. Boeing needs to just start over.
squirrel6··on High school math doesn't prepare most students for their college majors
Honestly, the bigger issue here is that good math teachers in the US are just in short supply. Sometimes I wonder if the way we teach algebra here is flawed, like something pedagogically or conceptually, and good teachers break through that to give students what they need to prepare their students.
squirrel6··on 23andMe updates their TOS to force binding arbitration
Well stated. The only reason it’s not actually legislated is probably because this was just the path of least resistance.
squirrel6··on New York will plant trees using new tech to maximize foliage impact
Considering historical disparities in tree planting and landscaping promulgated by Robert Moses and subsequent officials, this is a great step in the right direction. Community boards have already been pushing for this kind of environmental justice
squirrel6··on FBI director admits they rarely have probable cause for using NSA collections
Agree. It shocks me that anyone would stand against this— there’s so much anti Patriot Act rhetoric, this is one of the only ways to make a step toward achieving justice in the situation
squirrel6··on The product manager role is a mistake
I agree. So, I think the question is, how do you effectively implement stewardship and accountability on product matters without having an organization strictly dedicated to it? The author doesn’t give much of a framework here
squirrel6··on The product manager role is a mistake
Steve Jobs and his inner circle were, arguably, the product managers
squirrel6··on Pigging
Rotational atherectomy is an early version of this
squirrel6··on The importance of handwriting is now better understood
I really loved these (.38 specifically) back in college, but they’d start skipping within a matter of weeks. Maybe I was just applying too much pressure?
squirrel6··on The importance of handwriting is now better understood
I am left-handed and the Energel has totally changed my life— it’s the best pen I’ve ever had. I have recently come to believe Pentel is (pardon the cliche) the Apple of writing instruments. They’ve simply PM’d the hell out of their product over time, and it really shows.
squirrel6··on Wall Street Isn't Sure It Can Handle All of Washington's Bonds

squirrel6··on The NYC's MTA 20 year needs assessment reminds us they can't build
We just need another Robert Moses /s
squirrel6··on Kids’ competitive activities lead to debt for parents
This is probably driven by the state of elite college admissions.
