stranded22··on US federal budget deficit jumps 12% in one year to nearly $2 Trillion
I dunno man, I think outside influence helped massively.

To the point that I wonder if Pence actually saved us all when not doing what he was supposed to - but the people Trump put in place meant he didn't get blocked for running again.

stranded22··on US federal budget deficit jumps 12% in one year to nearly $2 Trillion
When you realise that the Trump administration is not working FOR the country but against the countries interest, then it starts to make sense.
stranded22··on Xi's 'death watch' will become a global spectacle
To put von der leyen in the same sentence as the other two says a lot more about you than anything else.

For one thing, she is much more likely to be 'ruling' in 10+ years being both female and only 68, and people are only sent to old peoples home when they can't look after themselves. Trump definitely meets that mark, Putin we obviously do not know. Pension for von der Leyen, maybe, but with age comes wisdom with her role, and stability.

Google need to allow saving history and exclude it as training data. I will not use it seriously until this is resolved.
stranded22··on Thanks to Siri Recaps, your Apple Watch is always listening
I’m audhd - I LOVE this. It will be so helpful (I hope)
stranded22··on Check if a file was made with Claude
Just like the tech company owners not allowing their kids access to social media…
stranded22··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
I paid for perplexity pro for 3 years. I genuinely enjoyed using it and felt it was better overall than ChatGPT etc due to the way it showed sources etc. I liked being able to use different models depending on what I was looking for, and the deep research was helpful.

I think they probably damaged themselves by going for a land grab of user base through freebies. It meant the users weren’t ever going to convert to paid customers, so it was more to show investors that they had a user base. But, with an increased base of users who weren’t paying, it then meant they needed to find either new revenue streams or cheaper ways to provide the service. Unfortunately, it seems they went with the new revenue streams whilst also decreasing the functions paying members were able to access (something I find quite abhorrent- I paid a service level, but then they change what I receive mid-subscription). And then computer - rammed down my throat. One reason I pay for pro is to stop the nagging noise of paid tiers. And instead, they actually created a way of logging in and continually seeing gated functions.

So, after paying them upwards of $400-$500 and being a loyal customer, I walked.

stranded22··on Guess which of these LLM outputs is watermarked
Yes. Did one - saw that I wouldn’t get feedback until I have completed all 10 (if at all) and noped out.
stranded22··on The Trumps' Crypto Project Just Got One Step Closer to Becoming a Bank
Musk and Russia too.

How many bomb alerts in only Democrat strong areas, for example?

stranded22··on Ask HN: How do you keep up with HN these days?
Inoreader rss.

I then miss a few days and get overwhelmed with the backlog.

stranded22··on How Claude marks AI-generated content
The amount of times ‘delve’ appeared in general conversation in the last couple of years shows the influence LLMs have on society.
stranded22··on How Claude marks AI-generated content
Yes, I’m audhd and dyslexic.

I am cancelling my Claude max 5x subscription and moving to ChatGPT pro. I have difficulty enough trying to ensure my meaning comes through correctly, along with everything else; to now have to look out for/analyse watermarks too?

I feel shamed enough by society, thanks Anthropic.

stranded22··on EU now fears US interference in European elections
Musk ACTIVELY attacks through social media the governments in power and actively supports far right parties (through both appearances and money).

That’s a hell of a difference to ‘you’ll be at the back of the queue’ - which was a stated fact.

stranded22··on EU now fears US interference in European elections
Was it to convince though? He stated a fact.

And no, the real difference now is that the USA oligarchs are activity trying to get far right parties in power.

stranded22··on The motion-sickness cure hidden in iPhone settings
It didn’t work for my wife, so good to see she is the exception rather than the rule
stranded22··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
Seems like an advert for K3 to me.

Fable level performance, for much lower price.

But really, this is the USA getting ready to bring AI companies completely under the control of the Trump administration for ‘national security’

stranded22··on Moonshot AI suspends new subscriptions due to Kimi K3 demand
Same for me too. Hunting for the login whilst a massive splash screen for sign up
stranded22··on Tell HN: OpenAI has started putting ads on paid programs
They have been putting ads in the free and ‘go’ plans
stranded22··on VPN ban update for UK households as government looks at 'age-gate'
Reminds me of the drugs tsar, Dr Nutt, saying that drugs should be legalised/decriminalised. So he got sacked.

Quite often, people in power don’t want to hear the truth, they want to hear their own words/views parroted back to them.

stranded22··on UK to require ID or face scan before you can make social media accounts
The amount of propaganda attacks targeting the public, the social media companies have brought this on us themselves.
stranded22··on Rotten Dot Com
I loved rotten dot com when I was a teenager (97ish time). Simpler times, where I was looking for gore and (a year or so later) Joes Cartoons (I’m super fly).

I do think the site, along with watching horror such as puppet master and reading Stephen King at 14, affected my psyche though.

stranded22··on Demand for autism care is soaring
It’s now viewed as levels depending on the amount of support needed. Level 1 may be able to mask compared to level 2 or 3, allowing them to be more part of society, but we still need accommodations otherwise we will burn out.
stranded22··on Demand for autism care is soaring
I was similar - primary school teacher wrote home to my parents asking their permission to slipper me (it was a no).

Diagnosed with adhd last year at 45, scored ridiculously high on self test aspie but no incentive to get an autism diagnosis atm (my wife is worried the far right will get in and they’ll go after the autistics).

Would have been nice to have had a diagnosis as a kid though - my life would have been quite different (maybe more hugs less drugs)
