Errr… not that long ago using the zone system (during shooting, developing and printing!) to got a good negative and print. Your 20 years old D70 is doing a lot of heavy lifting you are not even aware of!

Even ~20yo lower tier digital cameras still required understanding what light meter meters and correcting for it.

> Keep in mind that the NSDAP also operated within the legal boundaries.

I am no expert but you might be correct - quick search shows they exploited legal loopholes, essentially hacked the system. I am afraid we haven’t learned much feom it as recent history shows.

That said, legal framework has thankfully changed since and in Europe there is the Europen Convention of Human Rights, plus the constitutional rights. That said, they are not failable, and are equally explotable by left and right, especially if the conditions are right, such as fear.

So ok, point taken, even those who operate within legal bounds today need to be watched closely - on all sides.

And yes I think being homosexual and far anything is pretty weird, as neither far left nor right would tolerate homosexuality IMO. Socialism proved that.

And btw, despite what historians tell, the NSDAP sold itself to the voters on the _left_ ideas. Fascism likewise. In fact, when blinded, some left thinkers have enforsed fascist ideas. Again, hilarious. But true.

Here are some points from fascist manifesto if you don’t believe me:

- Universal suffrage by regional list voting, with proportional representation, voting and eligibility for women.

- Minimum age for voters lowered to 18; minimum age for deputies lowered to 25.

- The prompt enactment of a state law enshrining the legal eight-hour workday for all jobs.

- Minimum wages.

- The participation of workers' representatives in the technical operation of industry.

- The entrusting to the proletarian organizations themselves (who are morally and technically worthy) of the management of public industries or services.

- The speedy and complete settlement of the railroad workers and all transportation industries.

- A necessary amendment of the Disability and Old Age Insurance Bill by lowering the age limit, currently proposed at 65, to 55.

It’s comical that an organisation endorsing and expanding these same ideas is called “antifa”. In fact, people today have no clue what fascism was, they just use it as label for whatever they disagree with, same as “far right”.

Those who don’t know history are indeed condemned to repeat it.

> The leader can be a lesbian and still far right.

Pure comedy at this point, seriously, this is hilarious.

strideashort··on Shitter – A Nitter Fork
Ah, AfD, the party with female lesbians leader, right? typical far right, point taken.

Otherwise, yes, I think labeling any party which works within the legal bounds as “far” is dangerous. Because there are legit far groups which should not be permitted on both sides of the spectrum. And we better know what is legitimate and what not.

strideashort··on Shitter – A Nitter Fork
Ah yes, you only need to set the label, those who disagree need to prove the negative. Pretty typical.

What is “far right”, btw? What are objective measurable criteria?

> The "left" spans such a huge range right now that to be "not left" is basically far right

Jesus Christ, you can’t be serious. But then again, I am not surprised that you are.

strideashort··on Revolut down as users report app not working
Probably hybrid is best.

Row level locking and update indeed works, most of the time - bugs are a real issue.

som write ledger and update row in the same transaction.

then in bg have a batch ledger verification, probably on a read replica, and flag any discrepancy.

ah yes… an interviewer recently proudly presented his interview sieve… a non-policy book he swears to by a “successful professor”.

Interviews are a gamble. If he interviewer has a specific framework in mind - no matter how correct or incorrect it is - good luck hitting the right spots.

strideashort··on Like Sabine Hossenfelder, I Was Offered Money to Tell You AI Will Kill Us [video]
Ah yes, the video where he pulls “science deniers” out of thin air, without even defining the term, then bridges “being anti-academia” to “being science denier” (without any argument, just trust me bro), and then just beats the strawman over and over, hence Sabine bad.

Yes, true intellectual gem that one!

strideashort··on AI was great until it was not
no, it’s absolutely awesome.

I can move across the repos fixing whatever god damn bothers me, without ever talking to anyone.

Code and commit/review messages have always been all the communication needed.

The thing is, most humans don’t communicate in order to exchange information, but in order to regulate their emotions.

I recently needed a lawyer on something that involved lots of highly sensitive PI.

Sending my file over to lawyers in a semi-safe way has proved impossible.

And in any case, i received an answer with lots of PI over a plain email…

Absolutely maddening

strideashort··on Colorectal Cancer Is Rising Among the Young, Even Kids and Teens
Well for sure we absolutely certainly know what it absolutely certainly isn’t causing it so it absolutely doesn’t need to be researched.
strideashort··on AI has no intent and no motivation
The key unresolved question is: why do LLMs follow instructions, especially system prompt?

And I don’t see a good answer which is not worrying if not spooky.

strideashort··on The darker side of being a doctor
AI. We need AI, period.

At least as first line docs.

But what the author describes - fuck no, this is absolute unsustainable madness. Race to the bottom. I’d rather fix plumbing at my own pace.

strideashort··on Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?
We need to pivot math towards intuition and accessibility.

Math has built a gated, inaccessible institution which - by design or not - served as a moat.

I believe math has little to do with mathematical notation - intuition is much more important. One can have intuition but not be able to “read math” - much as many musicians don’t “read music”.

Reading math however does not guarantee ideas or intuition. And those are what math needs.

strideashort··on MCP was always a bad idea?
REST or specifically non-self-documenting rest has always been a bad idea.

SOAP does not need MCP, for example.

strideashort··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
Why should i change my outside to accommodate you?

You are forcing a mould on a person whose brain works differently to accommodate the majority.

You have no clue at what costs it comes on the long term (I do, and it’s not pleasant).

I recommend asking decent ai to explain to you the harm of this lone of thought / demand on autistic population

strideashort··on Burnham must be clear: no slavery reparations will be paid
Selective injustice reparations imo cause new injustice.

The mess of distribution of resources in the present is a consequence of thousands of years of injustice and power accumulation.

Ownership of land - which is normalized - is absurd, for starters.

strideashort··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
Well how do you detect autism if it’s traits never show?

It’s a bit loke saying fish don’t develop aquism unless they are facing non-acquatic environment. Kinda crude comparison but you get then idea.

strideashort··on How, Exactly, Could A.I. Kill Us?
Resource competition.

Fighting robot drones for water, agriculture land (solar cells) is plausible

ai would not have incentive to go full terminator. But in a way literal starvation might be worse.

strideashort··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
Not onset, that makes no sense.

Environment makes certain traits visible - eg noise and smell sensory issues, even social settings. Put me in a forest and i will be indistinguishable from a neuro-prevalent - no social pressure, no noise, no smells. Actually the neuro-prevalent might be suffering for the lack of those i suppose

strideashort··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
I am pretty sure neuro prevalent type is the disruptive one
