swlkr··on Cloudflare CEO on the Italy fines
I love this. digital sovereignty sounds so cool too
swlkr··on Developers Are Solving the Wrong Problem
Oh, I didn't know that, I guess from the outside it never seems that way.
swlkr··on Cloudflare CEO on the Italy fines
My conspiracy theory is that the EU is actively trying to create their own cloud through regulation after seeing the economic success from china's internet companies after the great firewall.
swlkr··on Developers Are Solving the Wrong Problem
Im not sure whose job it is to only write beautiful code.

If that's the case, zero programmers should be worried.

Beautiful code only tends to exist in open source.

swlkr··on Jank Lang Hit Alpha
there's always carp lang but no gc
swlkr··on What Dynamic Typing Is For
Pulling everything into the type system does lead to madness.

Luckily i'm just the mad scientist to recreate a non-async rust web stack, here's the sqlite bit if you're interested.

swlkr··on Show HN: Aide, an open-source AI native IDE
im fairly sure helix-gpt does this, though i haven't tried it
swlkr··on Show HN: Aide, an open-source AI native IDE
I also use helix and i've been getting some mileage out of aider, the cli tool. Confusing name, as I don't believe aider is affiliated with aide
swlkr··on Show HN: Ryde, a Rust Web Framework
will do, it definitely needs some documentation tlc
swlkr··on Show HN: Ryde, a Rust Web Framework
It really is, axum is great by itself, but it's always nice to have a few nice-to-haves on top
swlkr··on Show HN: Ryde, a Rust Web Framework
It also has a db! macro that lets you write sql and it maps it to rust structs and fns, I've made some improvements to the macro here https://github.com/swlkr/static_sqlite
swlkr··on Htmx 2.0.0 has been released
rust and ryde (my own framework on top of axum and rusqlite)
swlkr··on JetBrains releases RustRover IDE for Rust development
I'm the same way, it's one of the reasons I use helix, even for non rust dev
swlkr··on Cloudflare employee posts layoff call with HR and goes viral [video]
We are humans but to HR, we're human resources.
swlkr··on Was Javascript really made in 10 days?
If they stuck with a scheme syntax, it would have been easier to make it a compiler target.

We might have had web assembly earlier

swlkr··on Ruby on Rails: The Documentary [video]
Rails really is the premiere framework for web development speed
swlkr··on Ask HN: What web frameworks do you use?
A little trait heavy, but overall it's ok! I like the extractors, didn't at first but I learned to love them.

Middleware::from_fn was a life saver in the current version, middleware was kind of annoying before that was added.

Would prefer something more like graphul but haven't given it a shot yet.

swlkr··on Ask HN: What web frameworks do you use?
rails for work, axum for side projects
swlkr··on Candle: Torch Replacement in Rust
Dioxus liveview or if you don't want websockets, dioxus fullstack, you can use warp or salvo but axum is good.

Rust embed is also great, I cross compile everything into a single dynamically linked binary and scp to my vps, deployment is a breeze.

swlkr··on Facebook's Threads is so depressing
it's not possible currently
swlkr··on Clojure is a product design tool (2015)
electric is the state of the art in clojure nowadays from my understanding
swlkr··on A LiveView Is a Process
cars dot com uses it
swlkr··on Meta plans to lay off 10k employees
This feels like they spent a lot of money on the metaverse, it didn't work out, so now they're raising money by doing layoffs
swlkr··on Dioxus 0.3 – Templates, Hot Reloading, LiveView, and More
Dioxus liveview is so good.

I tried it with salvo and it just worked (tm).

The only downside which they're working on is some kind of socket reconnect if someone navigates away and the socket gets disconnected for some reason

swlkr··on My class required AI
This article is a great intro to prompt engineering.

It helped me with my own prompts!

swlkr··on SQLite the only database you will ever need in most cases (2021)
I've used dokku to great effect.

SSHing into a new linux VPS can be intimidating but there a few good digital ocean tutorials that'll take you from new VPS to dokku and once you're there it's very much a PaaS

swlkr··on Ask HN: What's your unpopular tech, programming opinion
There have been incremental improvements lately that might lead to code in a db instead of flat files at some point in the near future:

- rise of autoformatters

- language servers decoupling editing from editors

- all in one build tools (cargo, go)

This might be case of happens slowly then all at once.

It's not an insane jump from LSPs to new editor UIs and since the code is formatted on save, people care less about the minutiae of 80 char lines.

swlkr··on Study finds that buttons in cars are safer and quicker to use than touchscreens
I own a 2018 4Runner, best purchase I've ever made.

The touchscreen is small and only for music or nav.

The controls for A/C and cruise and everything real are large, beautiful buttons.

swlkr··on Ask HN: What was the best software that you used during 2022?
- helix https://helix-editor.com/

- cleanshot x https://cleanshot.com/

- btm https://github.com/ClementTsang/bottom

swlkr··on Atom was archived today
I used atom for years, it was such a nice UX especially compared to vscode.

Unfortunately it was slow when I loaded it up with plugins.

I moved on to vscode first, hated it, then back to vim, then to neovim, and now finally to helix.
