tangue··on Campfire Rewritten in Rust By DHH
Telling Ruby coders that performance doesn't matter before rewriting everything in Rust for performance. Apart from hobbyist how will the Ruby community survive ? With friends like that ...
tangue··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
Hey and Basecamp suck. Basic features like search barely work, the iOS and Android apps are embarrassingly bad, and the UI looks like it was designed for Netscape Navigator 4. With Rails, dhh spent years trying to work around JavaScript , leaving the framework increasingly difficult to recommend in 2026. Why on earth would you trust him with your OS ? Even if you share his politics, you deserve better software.
tangue··on Omacom Foundation launches with $8M
I'm with you. And beyond his political views, I've never been particularly impressed by anything he's built, from Basecamp to HEY. I can at least understand why some people admire Elon Musk because of what he's accomplished, even if I don't share that admiration. But the almost cult-like devotion some people have for DHH is a complete mystery to me.
tangue··on Processing Piano Tutorial Videos in the Browser
This is really a great idea. While fancy these piano tuts are quite useless compared to something like guitar tabs. Hope it will improve
tangue··on Nokia’s legendary font makes for a great user interface font
It looks a lot like other Spiekermann’s font like Fira Sans or Meta Sans. Humanists fonts have been so overused by big corps that I’m not sure I want to have it in my ui.
tangue··on Marines being mobilized in response to LA protests
You can prevent that without using the army. A country using its army against its own people is not a thing a democratic country does.
tangue··on On thinkers and doers (2022)
And talkers… How many thinkers died without self promoting their ideas ? How many doers didn’t have the ressources to execute their ideas ?
tangue··on Nevermind, an album on major chords
Yep 90% power chords and the sound on Nevermind was in part due to Butch Vig. It’s simple but at the time quite unheard : bit of compression a lot of overdub, maybe a little flange/chorus but it was quite minimal compared to heavy metal, guitar heroes of the time and really different from the punk bands.
tangue··on The Tragedy of Safari (2021)
I support the conclusion, but khtml should have been mentioned somewhere.
tangue··on I Track My Health Data in Markdown: Lessons in Digital Longevity
Well, Apple Health fixed this for me.
tangue··on Worklenz: Open-Source, All in one project management tool
Why using grunt on a new project ?
tangue··on Switching to Android Was Easy
From their FAQ : « Hey doesn’t support IMAP or POP ». Time to write a blog post about how to easily switch from Hey to another mail provider
tangue··on Kate image withdrawn by three news agencies amid 'manipulation' concerns
Am I the only one to think of the text editor when I see Kate without much context in a title ?
tangue··on France enshrines 'freedom' to abortion in Constitution, in world first
Some people call it imperialism, but for me US is more like an hegemon, a center which can impose its cultural norms to its periphery. But some people in France like to think that’s France is a US colony. I’m fine with that, because if it’s the case, french people are treated way better than the inhabitants of former french colonies.
tangue··on Is htmx Just Another JavaScript Framework?
Yep in 2024 we still haven’t found a generic datepicker and hundreds of people on the internet are coding their own version. HTML5 snafu
tangue··on NetworkX – Network Analysis in Python
Back in the days I’ve discovered NetworkX and Gephi in a Coursera course and was really surprised about how simple it managed to represent visually such a hard problem (I’ve never been able to find this course again it started with Erdos number that’s the only thing I remember)
tangue··on Werner Herzog on beer, yoga and what he would ask God
As a side note Herzog advocating for Zoom instead of Teams is l’heure last thing I expected to read
tangue··on Extracting Hacker News book recommendations with the ChatGPT API
I’m surprised that Knuth’s book isn’t in the top 5 and I’m very surprised to see Descarte’s meditation as even in France no one longer reads this ( must be related to the various posts about meditation on HN imho ) and Franck ( not Brian ) Herbert wrote Dune. I don’t trust this post and indeed I don’t trust anything published on the Internet after Llms went mainstream.
tangue··on Street Fighter II, paper trails (2021)
We’re in 2023. Use reader mode.
tangue··on PHP bug: Password_verify() always return true with some hash
This guy should have monetized his blog, as in every discussion vaguely related to php someone come with a link to this page.
tangue··on My favourite 3 lines of CSS
Worst thing is the comment (if there's any) is probably something like

  /* lobotomized owl typography*/
tangue··on Nano Emacs – a set of config files to improve the look and feel of Emacs
The mu4e front end looks really nice. I’ve ne er wanted to use Emacs as a mail client but this could worth a try
tangue··on Meta Myths
I actually did love Facebook and had success with ads in the past but there were so much redesigns in the ad manager that I can’t use it anymore
tangue··on macOS Ventura is now available
+1... And the last one without cloud pushed down your throat
tangue··on Effect of fruit rich diet on liver biomarkers, insulin resistance, lipid profile
This. Plus hidden alcohol consumption is something that is never take into account while doing these kind of studies in muslim countries.

tangue··on Analyzing iMessage with SQL
https://selectstarsql.com/ may help you for JOIN I recommend that your do it in its entirety even if you understand the first concepts
tangue··on Facebook paid Republican strategy firm to malign TikTok
From the article : "Launched as a Republican digital consulting firm by Zac Moffatt, a digital director for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, Targeted Victory ... The firm is one of the biggest recipients of Republican campaign spending, earning more than $237 million in 2020, according to data compiled by OpenSecrets. Its biggest payments came from national GOP congressional committees and America First Action, a pro-Trump super PAC."
tangue··on LaBanquePostale payments request bank password
* Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new requirement of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), ... It will require banks to perform additional checks when consumers make payments to confirm their identity. To do this, banks may ask for a combination of two forms of identification at checkout. Examples include: Something they know (such as a password or PIN).*

tangue··on LaBanquePostale payments request bank password
As I've said in another comment it's part of an European Directive : PSD-2. Think of it the equivalent of the cookie wall but for banking.
