themikesanto··on Incident with Github.com [resolved]
I don't think a YouTube link is the best way to evangelize a new tool.
themikesanto··on Show HN: Wikipedia as a doomscrollable social media feed
Clicked into an article about nuclear weapons and was thinking "wow, the quality of this article is horrible" before I realized it was Simple English Wikipedia. I didn't even know that was a thing.
themikesanto··on Install.md: A standard for LLM-executable installation
You can do the same thing with any install script you might come across today.
themikesanto··on Install.md: A standard for LLM-executable installation
I would think that the common bash scripts we already have would provide an agent better context for installation than a markdown file, and even better, they already work without an LLM.

This is a "solution" looking for a problem.

themikesanto··on DeskHog, an open-source developer toy
Yes, please do!
themikesanto··on A proposal to restrict sites from accessing a users’ local network
Google loves wreaking havoc on web standards. Is there really anything anyone can do about it at this point? The number of us using alternative browsers are a drop in the bucket when compared to Chrome's market share.
themikesanto··on The Moped King
The Scooter King*.

Mopeds have pedals.

themikesanto··on POTUS Tracker – Executive Orders, Presidential Schedule, Signed Legislation
Looks like the answer was 18 minutes.
themikesanto··on Nintendo announces the Switch 2 [video]
This is a hardware reveal trailer. Nintendo likely released this because of all of the recent leaks, which have put their 3rd party accessory vendors in a weird position. More details will be revealed at the Nintendo Direct on the 2nd.
themikesanto··on Nintendo announces the Switch 2 [video]
Yes
themikesanto··on Verso – Web browser built on top of the Servo web engine
All of the products you described are just tools that build HTML/CSS for you.
themikesanto··on Ask HN: Front-end bait and switch?
That button conversation is way too real. Front end dev here, and I've probably spent at least 20 hours this year just in meetings about fonts.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

themikesanto··on Proposed rule would ban airlines from charging parents to sit with children
Is this a novelty account? The comment + username makes it feel like it, but I'm not used to seeing this type of poster on HN.
themikesanto··on OpenAI didn’t copy Scarlett Johansson’s voice for ChatGPT, records show
Alert
themikesanto··on Apple TV+ Cornered the Market on "Prestige Dad TV"
They seem to have stopped training new astronauts in the later seasons. I can't believe Ed is still a character, let alone in command of a mission in deep space. I agree the whole show has gone off the rails since season 2.
themikesanto··on Responses to unicycling
That's called body language, dude. It's a different kind of communication, brother!

themikesanto··on What made Apollo a success? (1971) [pdf]
This is an urban legend.

themikesanto··on Show HN: Recompyle – A JavaScript developer-friendly console / debugger
I don't think I would ever use this project, and I especially would not pay for it.

From scanning the website and documentation, it seems like a less useful debugger than currently available open source tools. I really have no idea what this project is trying to achieve.

and then there's this:

> Yes you need an account to use recompyle.

> The account is used to validate the license. Nothing more.

> The only thing send to our server is a hash of your "machineId"

> The App run on you computer, your code is private and not send to our servers.

> No analytics or error tracking.

You expect me to simply trust your word that this debugger won't do anything nefarious? Not a chance.

themikesanto··on Wikifunctions
How do you propose the functions should run if you don't have JavaScript enabled?
themikesanto··on Ask HN: How do I assess my seniority level?
If they wanted to ask ChatGPT they could have done that themselves. I looked at your profile, you've just been taking generated responses to various threads and using them to self promote.
themikesanto··on Mastering Monero: The future of private transactions [pdf] (2019)
Do you know which other payment methods people use to buy drugs? All of them.
themikesanto··on PSone.css – Playstation 1 style CSS Framework
Yeah, you could do all of that, or you could just use a package manager.
themikesanto··on 🥺: the best sudo replacement
Interesting. Could you expand on that, or point me towards some related reading? Thanks!
themikesanto··on Mystery of BBC radio's first broadcasts revealed 100 years on
Leaked documents from the CISA recently revealed operations to shape the 'cognitive infrastructure'

Source?

themikesanto··on Chess world rocked by rumours of anal beads and artificial intelligence
I don't believe there's any evidence to the anal bead thing. It started as a joke tweet by Elon Musk.
themikesanto··on National Rail Network Map
If these ideas were viable, the class 1 carriers would have already implemented them.
themikesanto··on X-Plane 12 Early Access
I enjoy my Thrustmaster T1600M, it was $150:

themikesanto··on Show HN: Colorvote.io – ranking all sRGB web colors by popularity
Ah cool, thanks! As someone who mostly lurks, I look forward to engaging with some of these features in a few decades time.
themikesanto··on Show HN: Colorvote.io – ranking all sRGB web colors by popularity
Wait, you can change the top bar color? That's news to me.
themikesanto··on Urbit Takeoff Is Here
I've been following Urbit for years, and honestly I still don't see the use case. It seems like its intended use case is to be a network where you can't disseminate your data across the network unless the "lord" that issued you your address space allows you to do so.
