throw555chip··on SSH -X fails if IPv6 is disabled
I just ran into this issue after recently disabling IPv6 on my machines, a fix is to add "AddressFamily inet" to the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and reload the ssh service.
throw555chip··on Exploring Self-Hosted Email Services
Been doing it since 1999 and the things they mentioned are the main things to do, works great.

throw555chip··on Exploring Self-Hosted Email Services
I've never used ansible but the article makes me want to consider trying it on my self hosted stuff. I wish I had that article years and years ago, the inclusion of how to configure virtual accounts for email is especially useful to anyone starting out.
throw555chip··on Exploring Self-Hosted Email Services
Near the end:

"In order to deliver email to other mail providers without being marked as spam, I ideally needed to implement all three policy frameworks with the mail server."

Then a few lines later:

"Inbound and outbound message delivery was working."

throw555chip··on Roundcube open-source webmail software merges with Nextcloud

What are the odds, a positive article relating to Nextcloud posted on HN the same day a negative article is posted about Owncloud on Reddit.

throw555chip··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
It's important to note there are misrepresentations in the Wikipedia article:

For the most truthful view of what happened that day:

"Can I remove the extensions button from the toolbar or customize its location?

It is not possible to remove the extensions button from the toolbar. This is by design."

throw555chip··on Ask HN: How should I setup a phone for a newly blind relative?
Thank you for asking the question, it may one day have relevance for me.
throw555chip··on Mice eating less isoleucine live longer, healthier
Way above my head but less of whatever isoleucine is doesn't sound advisable:

https://aminoacidsguide.com/Ile.html

"Isoleucine participates in hemoglobin synthesis, as well as in the regulation of blood sugar and energy levels. Studies revealed that this amino acid has a very low toxicity at pharmatological levels up to 8% of solution concentration in rats."

"As a matter of fact, the three amino acids (Isoleucine, Leucine, and Valine) constitute nearly 70% of all the amino acids in the body's proteins. That is why their value in human body is so high."

throw555chip··on Texas officials warn of rolling blackouts to ease strain on power grid
We lived here in 2011, I don't recall any major issues with power that we experienced or what was reported on in any news broadcast. The only thing about weather I remember for 2011 was the excessively hot summer.
throw555chip··on Texas officials warn of rolling blackouts to ease strain on power grid
Like these cases?

- hurricanes hit eastern states every year and the US taxpayer helps - wildfires hit western states every year and the US taxpayer helps - tornadoes hit the mid-western states every year and the US taxpayer helps

throw555chip··on Snaps. Why? Please Stop
Follow the instructions here, works for me: https://gist.github.com/lmmx/0550cfc8867eb1eea04076ec69c95a5...

Although cups has a hardwired dependency on libsnapd-glib1 so you can't remove that library, but the nosnap.pref file will prevent snapd from ever being installed again.

throw555chip··on Despite just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from the Linux community (2021)
> the stacktrace can end up on someone's desk

This is chillingly scary and one reason why I use Linux desktop.

throw555chip··on Despite just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from the Linux community (2021)
If it's based on Arch (insane rolling release crap idea) then I won't be using it.
throw555chip··on Despite just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from the Linux community (2021)
> It's almost self defeating. Seems like developing games for linux is harder.

Except that the parent's point is refuted by the OP's article (that brought us all here to discuss):

"Do you know how many of these 400 bug reports were actually platform-specific? 3. Literally only 3 things were problems that came out just on Linux."

throw555chip··on Despite just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from the Linux community (2021)
> And the platform has the highest percentage of players who run into platform-specific issues

Except that in the case of the OP's posted article, their Linux bugs were few:

"Do you know how many of these 400 bug reports were actually platform-specific? 3. Literally only 3 things were problems that came out just on Linux."

throw555chip··on Write libraries instead of services, where possible
No actually, it tries to be a kitchen sink and is the opposite of the UNIX concept of pipelines with small purpose built utilities.

I deleted my LinkedIn account when it started becoming more like Facebook (nothing against FB, Wide likes it) but FB isn't for me.

Also, I removed my public open source projects from GitHub after Microsoft bought them then removed them from GitLab too when the AI warnings about stealing copyrighted code started to sound more real.

PopOS isn't from Canonical. Use Ubuntu or Kubuntu for a wonderful Linux Desktop experience. It's only worked for me since 2006.

Without reading your link yet, I don't understand why is it difficult to understand when I say all my devices on all the Dell (and Alienware), HP and Lenovo PC's I've bought the past two decades just work on Linux.
throw555chip··on Ubuntu squeezes more performance than Windows 11 on new AMD Zen 4 Threadripper
Even as a gamer, I prefer to use cheap monitors, wasted too much money on expensive ones in my younger days only to see them break after a few years then the money is gone. I can afford better, I'm just cheap. I imagine I will start using a better monitor in coming years and if I see issues, I'll definitely honestly report them and discuss them. Another thing to think about, more pixels means more electricity used to keep them lit and more electricity to shove images around on the screen for the GPU, higher electricity bill, more carbon in the atmosphere.

I wonder how many HiDPI users also complain about global warming in other forums.

As a dev, wish I worked there, IBM was the only other place I worked where many devs and even a few thousand ordinary users like marketing, ran Linux. Also, I wasn't aware RedHat removed KDE, what an odd and crappy move. KDE rocks. Gnome not. RPM based distros sooner or later corrupt themselves, I run and recommend Ubuntu or Kubuntu (for KDE people), with Snap disabled with a small apt preferences file.

> Honestly, when it comes to "just working," desktop Linux is worse today than it was when I first installed it on my budget laptop in 2007.

I bought a new Alienware PC in summer 2022, installed Ubuntu immediately, wiping Windows. Everything worked. Still does. This happens on every new Dell (or Alienware), HP or Lenovo desktop or laptop I've bought the past 2 decades. I can't buy a new machine that has issues with Linux, what on Earth could I be doing wrong that they all work.

Honestly, do you work in Microsoft marketing.

> I hope the community really gets behind Snap or Flatpak

NO. No. No. No Snap. No flatpak. No rolling release distribution nightmares either. Standard LTS for me (with snap and flatpak disabled with an apt preferences file).

throw555chip··on Ubuntu squeezes more performance than Windows 11 on new AMD Zen 4 Threadripper
> We should be using rolling release distros like Arch/Void/OpenSUSE

No thanks, standard Ubuntu or Kubuntu are great. I don't want a rolling release nightmare like Windows. Steam screwed up by not using at least Debian (base for Ubuntu/Kubuntu) in their Steam console.

> Adobe is not the only problem. Hardware support, codecs, media support.

Hardware, old to the newest, works the same or better on my Dell, HP and Lenovo machines and has for close to 2 decades.
