throwfaraway4··on OpenAI claims employee sent secret device information to Apple
Haha
throwfaraway4··on ASML's strong orders ease fears AI spending boom is running out of steam
That's right. Jevon's Paradox won't matter when token prices are falling by orders of magnitude
throwfaraway4··on OpenAI: Employee who left for Apple took files about unreleased device
desperate and unoriginal
throwfaraway4··on Xi's 'death watch' will become a global spectacle
"It's fair to say that 80 percent of the world's problems involve old men hanging on who are afraid of death and insignificance, and they won't let go," - Barak Obama
throwfaraway4··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
Pacing the frontier is a front to get federal regulators/evaluators involved that they can then point to open source usage and cry "look they're not being safe!"
throwfaraway4··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
Yes all they had to do was invest 600 billion in US investment
throwfaraway4··on UPS Worker Missed Security Email, Letting China Get F-35 Parts
This right here
throwfaraway4··on Finland orders halt to work on two Google data centres
Seem to "falling short of high standards" in a lot of places: https://www.12onyourside.com/2026/10/05/state-regulators-all...
throwfaraway4··on No Signs of AI in the Productivity Data
It's because the outsized spend of AI build-out is in the denominator. Give it some time
throwfaraway4··on Jonathan Haidt: AI Is the 'Neutron Bomb for Education' [video]
As someone who's read all of his books and experienced the generations being studied I'd say he's been spot on and is extremely knowledgeable. One study that does not propose alternative views and cites "selling a lot of books" comes off to me as someone with an agenda. No thanks.

throwfaraway4··on Apple's New CEO Seeks to Make Company Run Faster and Leane
He's been an engineering leader for over 20 years at Apple.
throwfaraway4··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
They need to pay for the infrastructure upgrades to water and electric when it inevitably exceeds capacity
throwfaraway4··on The American Age Is Over
Agreed. We've been in much much worse positions in the past. We will fix ourselves and _hopefully_ learn from our mistakes.
throwfaraway4··on GM to Offer Apple CarPlay After Shift Away from the System
it would have been a dealbreaker for me. bought a 26 GMC and CarPlay integrates with the voice-assist button on the steering wheel as well as prevents you from doing unsafe stuff like browsing/sending texts. basically, pushes you to keep your eyes on the road
throwfaraway4··on Thanks to Siri Recaps, your Apple Watch is always listening
which part amuses you? the one where the former uploads all your data to the cloud only to be mismanaged and surveilled or the where the latter doesn't?
throwfaraway4··on Being ambitious and being a dad
I live in a neighborhood of older retired folks and I get this vibe from them as well when walking my younger kids. Their faces light up with joy. Just another season in life I suppose. Let's enjoy it while we can.
throwfaraway4··on Being ambitious and being a dad
I can honestly say, I think there was a chemical change in my brain or a biological equivalent when my kids were born. That is to say, something more primal than the "love" you can get from a spouse/SO; you feel it in your bones, deep down, always on and changed forever.
throwfaraway4··on Remote work benefits are much bigger than a paycheck
This is really it. The biggest advantages of being remote are only unlocked with full remote.
throwfaraway4··on Americans Love the Roar of a V-8 Engine–and They Don't Want to Give It Up
Very similar experience. Bought a v8 GMC for RVing and while turbo v6s can handle similar payloads, the turbos themselves break very often. The v8 sound and feel is a nice extra benefit.
throwfaraway4··on Qwen3.8 Weights Released

throwfaraway4··on Americans are rallying against data centers. Surprisingly few are getting built
I don't have all the numbers but as someone who lives in VA and has had their power bill _double_ over the last year, I'd be hard-pressed to think DCs are commonly paying their fair share when tariffs like this need to be passed: https://virginiamercury.com/2026/08/05/scc-orders-dominion-t...
throwfaraway4··on Silicon Valley sees AI as the solution – for everyone else
Using AI as leverage for labor is myopic. The businesses that thrive will be the ones that use it to automate and allow its employees to go deeper and innovate. The fish can rot from the head or not.
throwfaraway4··on US Schools Are Ditching Chromebooks for MacBooks by the Thousands
Because they’re low quality trash
throwfaraway4··on Apple overtakes Nvidia as most valuable company
I think this ignores the potential impact of local AI across 2+B devices that no longer need SOTA models for the majority of use-cases. What does that do to datacenter demand?
throwfaraway4··on Be skeptical of OpenAI's rogue hacker agent story
My take is why not both? It’s good cover to use something that’s eventually going to happen and their name will be associated with the first.
throwfaraway4··on OpenAI’s accidental attack against Hugging Face is science fiction that happened
Nonsense it was irresponsible. These are all steps threat researchers use to isolate and test real malware whose behaviour is essentially the same in this case for AI
throwfaraway4··on Startup founders urge Trump not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
Whether or not it’s robbery is irrelevant. It’s the proposed remedy that is the problem
throwfaraway4··on OpenAI and Hugging Face address security incident during model evaluation
Alignment is a mitigation and a poor one. The risk is non- determinism.
throwfaraway4··on OpenAI and Hugging Face address security incident during model evaluation
Its almost too good
