timbit42··on Laptop Based on 6502 CPU
There was also the HP 95LX with a smaller screen (40x16, 240x128), a 5.37 MHz NEC V20 CPU, and 512K or 1MB of RAM.

Also, the 100LX with monochrome CGA (80x24, 640x200), a 7.91 MHz 80186-compatible CPU, and 1MB or 2MB of RAM but the extra was used for file storage as drive C:.

The 200LX was the same as the 100LX but had newer software in ROM.

Hey! Don't forget the French Micronique Hector HRX (1983) which had only Forth in ROM, and the MX (1985) which had both Forth and BASIC in ROM. They can both be emulated in MAME.

Not for much longer.
timbit42··on European Alternatives
No one wants to suggest promoting English over their own language. English is already largely an unofficial lingua franca in Europe anyway. Let people do what they want.

Each culture's language is an integral part of their culture, and their culture wouldn't be the same if they switched to speaking another another culture's language.

timbit42··on Fingerprints are the new cookies
I'm not using Chameleon but I am using JShelter and I get a new name every time.
timbit42··on Fingerprints are the new cookies
The closest is the Mullvad browser which is like Tor browser but without the Tor network so websites load faster, but Mullvad browser also needs a VPN to fully protect you. EDIT: Mullvad doesn't beat it.

My Firefox beats it and gets the message "An error has occurred". Perhaps it's JShelter causing that or maybe CanvasBlocker.

Naw. The Apple II would still exist but would have transitioned to the 68000, PowerPC, x64, ARM and Apple GS/OS would have become macOS.
timbit42··on "I'm Embarrassed on Behalf of the Tech Industry"
I can't stand VLC. The only options are skip ahead 10 seconds and back 10 seconds. I prefer SMPlayer. I can skip ahead or back 10 seconds, 1 minute or 10 minutes.

timbit42··on Borland Turbo Basic
The scripting language built into dBASE is essentially a BASIC without line numbers and with DB commands built into it.

So a developer who doesn't force their opinion on the users? One that is NOT opinionated, as your first comment stated?
timbit42··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
> The biggest problem with UX developers is they know better than you AND force you into their paradigm. They came on the scene and decided "Choice is Bad" coupled with "Our way or the highway".

Reminds me of GNOME3.

timbit42··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
It's amazing no one has yet beat the efficiency of the hybrid model Toyota designed 30 years ago.

timbit42··on A brief history of Windows scroll bar shortcuts
When you want to go somewhere, the scroll bar doesn't show where anything is so how do you know where somewhere is?

I've never found it of any use.

I like solar panels and windmills because they bring a lot of freedom from oil, an unstable and sometimes scarce commodity, even if the solar and turbines are purchased from China.
