tkel··on AI agent swarms in Minecraft fail to build civilization, drown in bureaucracy
Once you understand how complex the human brain is, with 86 billion neurons and 100 trillion synapses, formed over billions of years of evolution, comparing that to the machines we have built makes them seem silly and extremely simple in comparison.

Psycho-history is fiction. You're not going to be able to model a single human much less millions of humans and their environments.

tkel··on Root shell on Samsung TV
from his twitter account:

> if your samsung TV model doesnt have a microphone, it will look for connected devices with one, such as a soundbar or a connected bluetooth device. this gets shipped off to bixby.

tkel··on It's still ok to enjoy programming
This comes off as patronizing , as if there is only one perspective outcome that you must adjust to
tkel··on Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All
Neither are "economic governors" . The whole shtick in the US is that industry is privately owned, not controlled by a democratically elected body.
tkel··on Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All
This isn't really something that could be addressed by regulation. It's a natural consequence of capitalism. It's in every industry.

tkel··on Why We're Banning AI
The people reading their magazine do. When "journalists" use LLM to write articles it's painfully obvious, there's a huge dip in quality, and it's an immediate turn off for anyone actually invested in the content.
tkel··on Ask HN: Do you want a router that has DD-WRT pre-installed?
DD-WRT isn't open-source though. OpenWRT is.
tkel··on Open Source as We Know It Is Dead
> We are now instructing our agents to leave comments, having the agents respond to those comments, even long threads where the agents debate technical decisions either both human author and human reviewer almost totally removed from the loop.

I'm sorry, this is totally ridiculous. Agents can't "debate" or have an opinion any more than your toaster can. They will generate opposing views of whatever you ask them to, regardless of its merit.

tkel··on Open Source as We Know It Is Dead
No, It's pretty obvious when someone is using an LLM to compose their messages
tkel··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Except if you're one of the "warfighters" that Anthropic supports
tkel··on Plan mode is dead
Pretty embarassing state of affairs for this "engineering" discipline
tkel··on Alberta's image as world's only rat-free region shattered by discovery of rat
So when other life exists in areas with humans, humans seek to exterminate it? Sad and cruel state of affairs.
tkel··on AI safety is mostly a sex cult
It's actually unhealthy that you think it's unhealthy to cry regularly. Perhaps you have trouble processing your emotions and just bottle them up instead, causing them to leak out in other situations or lead to outbursts?
tkel··on [dead]
This reads more like a personal essay than a research paper.

And the first sentence with an actual citation , which makes claims of SA, has been debunked . Much work has been put into attempting to find actual evidence for that claim, and none has been surfaced, it was a fabrication. The original reporting retracted. Why didn't the author include that?

tkel··on Houthis used Claude Code to develop missile guidance software: Anthropic
Okay but when it's US "warfighters" making missiles it's good? Pretty hypocritical that isn't in the the "threat report" too.

> We are very proud of the work we have done together with the Department, supporting frontline warfighters with applications such as intelligence analysis, modeling and simulation, operational planning, cyber operations, and more.

tkel··on Homebrew 7.0.0
People have been integrating/recommending brew on immutable distributions.
tkel··on Homebrew 7.0.0
These release notes appear generated by LLM, with the usual extreme verbosity. Wish a human had done a better job editing these.
tkel··on Don't be the out of touch Kung Fu master
You're reducing programming to its utility in producing exchange value in the captitalist political economy. That's what "value" means in this context. That's exactly what I'm pointing out. Programming is more than that, if you can think beyond your current economic constraints. Your life's activity ought to be more than just a tool for producing capitalist exchange value.

Does cooking food serve any purpose beyond mass producing food for restaurants to sell?

tkel··on Don't be the out of touch Kung Fu master
Ironically, this post comes off as out of touch. The purpose of the various martial arts isn't just to win in a life-or-death brawl or murder people as efficiently as possible. Similarly, the point of programming isn't just to generate as much code as possible, or only to be more "productive".
tkel··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
Kind of a good example on why conflating Judaism with Zionism leads to anti-semitism.
tkel··on I have a theory that software drives people insane
Seems like your actual argument is that competitive profiteering makes people insane. That is the motive here. Software is just the conduit.

As well as the people who work on software not being the ones making decisions about that work. A gap between the deciders and the laborers. Which is a result of the structure of the current micro political economy within organizations. It is not separate from it.

tkel··on Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password?

tkel··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
Yeah for real, an AI critic being popular is making everyone here lose their minds and try to come up with ten "Well Akshually..."
tkel··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
Yeah, the three tables just looking at revenue and profit YoY is pretty laughable financial analysis.
tkel··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
Perhaps now they'll release a 3.0 MechaHitler version
tkel··on US Government designates host of noblogs.org a "global terrorist"
The word "terrorist" is almost always used in a propaganda context. There's a good book you should check out, that surveys media mentions and provides hard statistical evidence for this: Manufacturing Consent.
tkel··on Y Combinator's Ankit Gupta faces backlash over H-1B comments
Capitalist right-wing vs nativist right-wing
tkel··on The turbulent AI era is here
You'd better hope Bill Gates stops buying up all the farmland then.
tkel··on Nostr is an inclusive communication commons
Accountability is not the same as decentralization of power, don't conflate them.

Decentralizing power means that many people are made powerful in their own respects.

Accountability means that one person or a small group of people are made powerful, but there are checks or mechanisms on that person's power.

These have vastly different impliciations for how organizations and groups of people develop and grow and interact.

tkel··on 'AI refuser' quit her dream job, and hopes others follow
You're still doing the thing where you make defensive comments though, just now pretending it's about something tangential
