twoheadedboy··on More Young Adults Are Living Paycheck to Paycheck in the US
Can't help but think this is a consequence of social media. People have dramatically unrealistic expectations on what life should be like.
twoheadedboy··on Manhattan rents cross $5k threshold for first time
1. Rent an airbnb for a period of time. 2. Tenant reaches out to host and asks to stay longer (or vice versa) 3. They agree to a deal outside airbnb that works better for both of them.

- no rules have to be followed

twoheadedboy··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
Yes, absolutely
twoheadedboy··on Tim Cook tells employees the return to offices will begin on April 11th
Anyone who has moved or bought a house outside of commuting distance in the past 2 years is never going back. I know I'm not.
twoheadedboy··on Scientist busts myths about how humans burn calories
The obvious follow up I was expecting that wasn’t in the article was “do people who exercise have less stress response to stimuli?”.

They talk about a “caloric balance sheet” so this makes sense to me.

twoheadedboy··on There is currently no way to drive between Vancouver and the rest of Canada
This reminds me of that one south park episode:

twoheadedboy··on People prefer friendliness, trustworthiness in teammates over skill competency
Because you're on a site where a significant portion of the population probably have poor social skills / are unlikable but have high degrees of technical skill.

If you had this conversation in the real world instead of the internet, everyone would just say "yeah, duh".

twoheadedboy··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
I strongly, strongly disagree. The "free and open internet" is a farce and only existed decades ago because nobody had any idea what they were doing yet.

We cannot allow people easy access to radicalization.

twoheadedboy··on Mental Wealth
I feel like 6 hours is really not enough to be healthy. 6 hours for me and I feel pretty rough. Multiple days in a row and I'm a zombie.
twoheadedboy··on The Vintage Beauty of Soviet Control Rooms (2018)
Also interesting to note that Tarkovsky hated 2001: A Space Odyssey.
twoheadedboy··on China signals plan to take full control of Hong Kong
Because America is a Democracy. Non violent protests changed people's minds and those people ultimately decide the laws. Won't work in China. China is totalitarian. The government gets what it wants regardless of public opinion. And it will squash any opinion it doesn't like before it spreads.
twoheadedboy··on Children of immigrants have higher rates of upward mobility than US-born
I used to think this was true, until I got older and realized just how bad I am at writing, and how not everything is just math and science.
twoheadedboy··on The Internet of Beefs
If you or anyone else is interested in this topic I strongly suggest the book Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging by Sebastian Junger.

That book really made me think pretty hard about this stuff. It's also a short 180 pages.

twoheadedboy··on Lime shuts in 12 markets, lays off around 100
> He said that projection is based in part on improvements to Lime scooters' longevity, which in 2019 went from from six months to about 14 months.

That still seems like an incredibly short amount of time.

twoheadedboy··on How VCs Make Money
So who are the shovel manufacturers in this case?
twoheadedboy··on Microsoft Wins Pentagon’s $10B Contract
What about the Post is related to this, specifically?
twoheadedboy··on Edward Snowden on The Joe Rogan Experience [video]
I don't doubt this, but do you have a source?
twoheadedboy··on Edward Snowden on The Joe Rogan Experience [video]
How dare you question dietary proselytizing which is clearly masquerading as scientific fact.
twoheadedboy··on Richard M. Stallman resigns
Isn't that just indicative of the sad state of things.
twoheadedboy··on 50 U.S. states and territories announce broad antitrust investigation of Google
> Would I be a bad person for saying I'm sad about this because I want to work at Google and I don't like seeing their future threatened?

That doesn't make you a bad person, but it IS a bad reason.

twoheadedboy··on BMW unveils car sprayed with Vantablack
Even if there are lights it still makes it harder to see, which is more dangerous.
twoheadedboy··on Banned from Google Ads for Using Apple Card
Modern life is so Kafkaesque.
twoheadedboy··on Software made me loathe my car
Not necessarily.
twoheadedboy··on Software made me loathe my car
If you're referring to the United Nations World Happiness Report, know that the metrics they use to measure those scores are literally just a measure of how socialistic a country is.
twoheadedboy··on Germany for First Time Sells 30-Year Bonds Offering Negative Yields
Yeah I get that. What about for people like me who are trying to enter the market? I'm wondering if it's worth it to wait and see, or if I should just not worry too much and invest now anyway.
twoheadedboy··on Uber Lays Off 400
"When it gets down to it — talking trade balances here — once we've brain-drained all our technology into other countries, once things have evened out, they're making cars in Bolivia and microwave ovens in Tadzhikistan and selling them here — once our edge in natural resources has been made irrelevant by giant Hong Kong ships and dirigibles that can ship North Dakota all the way to New Zealand for a nickel — once the Invisible Hand has taken away all those historical inequities and smeared them out into a broad global layer of what a Pakistani brickmaker would consider to be prosperity — y'know what? There's only four things we do better than anyone else: music, movies, microcode (software), high-speed pizza delivery"
twoheadedboy··on The Loneliness Epidemic
I find it pretty concerning whenever I see someone's github page with tons of green squares on the bottom and top row. Why do people work so much on the weekends?
twoheadedboy··on Older Americans are alone half their waking hours, on average
Completely disagree. I don't think humans are meant to live in cities. Something about being around that many people and ongoings makes me and from what I can tell a lot of other people, on edge so to speak.

I grew up in a suburb and it was not at all isolating. We had close communities and nearby family. I was friends with kids on my block and had freedom to explore and be independent. I would say technology is what is driving people to isolation.

twoheadedboy··on Kuo: Apple to include new scissor switch keyboard in MacBook
I have a mid 2013 Air as well (and I recently replaced the battery for $100, it’s great and you should too), but I’d attribute the long life to simply the SSD and the software rather than anything else.
twoheadedboy··on Dad, Are We Rich?
Most software devs aren't even close to doctors in terms of salary.
