ugk··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of everything?
I've thought about this myself, but never implemented.
ugk··on Ask HN: Reccommended reading to get up to speed on Hacker/Startup culture
Suspect valuations are the concern here IMO. This would be a big red flag for me, while the culture shock would be a distant second.
ugk··on Reddit CEO Calls Out Former Reddit Employee on Reddit
Sure it would be nice to have other options, but the reality of social media and group-think means they could really only say nothing or say everything. I don't like it, but to deny that is a dangerous gamble for any company.
ugk··on Most People with Addiction Simply Grow Out of It
Well said.
ugk··on Most People with Addiction Simply Grow Out of It
As a sober addict I really can't comprehend the "flavor" of addiction the author describes. Most of my addict friends and acquaintances either worked at sobriety or died from using. Actually most died. If someone can just stop, most would simply say the person wasn't actually an addict.
ugk··on In Ferguson, Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery gives account of his arrest
Wow. You're a real humanitarian. Most people just want it to stop, yet you want whitey punished.
ugk··on Adam Carolla won’t let Personal Audio drop podcast patent infringement lawsuit
Never paid good lawyers, huh? Or just trolling?
ugk··on Big Data Firm Says It Can Link Snowden Data To Changed Terrorist Behavior
I don't think that's terribly difficult. The NSA has obviously changed their behavior. /snippy internet comment
ugk··on [dead]
This is the equivalent of "local man <does something stupid>". Journalism is fading every damn day.
ugk··on Show HN: Browser plugin that turns 'disrupt' into 'bullshit'
Silly, but I think still generally more useful that the people who seriously use the term "disrupt" when talking about their big ideas.
ugk··on A SWAT team blew a hole in my 2-year-old son
This is incredibly disturbing. Police in the US are becoming increasingly violent, even while violent crime is falling.
ugk··on The Abstinence Method – Dutch farmers say no to antibiotics for livestock
Great idea until people start going hungry.
ugk··on Have You Hugged a Concrete Pillar Today?
The construction/real estate bubble in China is not long for this world. China might have used a lot of a commodity/product, but we should be careful in believing that is an equivalent 1:1 economic comparison.
ugk··on Who or What Broke My Kids?
So many schools seem to "teach only towards the test" because of the heavy reliance on standardized testing. I don't claim to have any answers, but society has pushed for this and it's a logical result IMO.
ugk··on The commando scientist billionaire who died fighting terrorists
I can always count on HN to reduce a fairly interesting story down to pedantic bickering.
ugk··on Why Twitter's stock price dropped 18% today
IMO much of the content from Fool and Seeking Alpha is just as empty. Especially with clickbait like that title.
ugk··on U.S. requires new cars to have backup cameras
Mandatory backup cameras, presidential kill lists, uncontrolled spying, & mandatory corporate welfare. Glad we have our priorities straight America.
ugk··on Why Millennials Have a Tough Time Landing Jobs
Yeah, I always find it funny how the generation(s) which "control" the current job market love to blame joblessness on the generation newly entering that job market. Macroeconomics gonna macro.
ugk··on Microsoft breaks into leaker employee's Hotmail without warrant
Yeah this was a pretty sad attempt to hide. So much so that I almost wonder if it was actually intentional theft.
ugk··on Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders?
second
ugk··on Texas Rocks Job Creation (Maybe That's Why Californians Are Moving There)
leading cause of death in TX is capital punishment amirite? Seriously though, can we all make ridiculous blanket statements, or are you the only one? Where in Texas do you live?
ugk··on Results of the SQL Performance Quiz
Not enough info to make good choices on all, at least for MSSQL. Besides, the correct answer to most database issues is "it depends".
ugk··on Dogecoin prices rises +800% in two weeks
to the moon shibes DNnHo6co2nuwVozodSCtsqaPzsi7RsYRpw
ugk··on Bitcoin Alternative 'Dogecoin' Hacked, 21 Million Coins Stolen
Well put.
ugk··on Dogewallet - The Online Dogecoin Wallet
Dogecoin is silly, but damned if they aren't getting some kind of coverage out of this.
ugk··on Greenspan Says Bitcoin a Bubble Without Intrinsic Currency Value
I wouldn't be so sure. The Fed is the root cause of almost all the bubbles we've seen in US markets. As for Bitcoin he might be right, but I want to hear his opinions on economics about as much as I want to hear Obama's opinions on drone strikes.
ugk··on US lawmakers vote to cut food stamp benefits from 2014
Thank you. (I agree)
ugk··on German minister: Stop using U.S. Web services to avoid NSA spying
Thank goodness the US is the only country that spies!
ugk··on An Open Letter to Women in Technology
Joke? Joke.
ugk··on SendGrid has terminated the employment of Adria Richards?
Agree. I'm sure she didn't want to be fired, but she wanted to stir things up...
