upsidesinclude··on Reckless American 777 Pilots Refuse NTSB Interviews
This is not logical.

Interesting to see how the escalation works in someones thought process, but these are not valid arguements.

"If you have nothing to hide, you dont need privacy"

Perhaps there are antiquated rules and possibly dangerous flight systems approved by the FAA. Maybe these pilots need to be protected from being publicly persecuted in the interest of corporate profit and confidence in the government.

upsidesinclude··on The digital pound: A new form of money for households and businesses?
This must be wildly different between the US and the UK, a difference of which I was unaware.

At least you have that going for you

upsidesinclude··on The digital pound: A new form of money for households and businesses?
This is most assuredly incorrect.

Banks lend at certain multiples of assets, 10:1.

Money creation takes place here, not as imagined at the treasury.

Daft
upsidesinclude··on Heat pumps are defying Maine’s winters and oil industry pushback
Any engineers feel like running the heat calcs on whether it's actually more beneficial to have the heat exchanger in a small enclosed space heated by the wood stove?

Im curious if the efficiency of the heat pump would allow for minimally heating the condenser to keep within the operating range.

That space might only be heated to +10°F, but would allow for the heat pump to operate normally.

No one made that claim.

This is, in fact, old hat

upsidesinclude··on An incomplete guide to stealth addresses
This isnt a good argument.

Something in your brain makes you believe that you should know what other people are doing.

It is almost funny to read as you point out the logical fallacy of your position and then promptly ignore it. Perhaps funny if so many people didnt also share your incessant belief that other people don't have a right to privacy

No one speaks in middle english. Dead language rules and customs are irrelevant to modern language norms.

People once walketh befide their mules, but now we gots lambos

Right, so if you change it, then it's changed and it's different.

Appreciate the clarification

upsidesinclude··on A breakdown of Colorado's 'weather modification' program
How could I answer that question. It is a non-question.

Why would such a large group of people chose not to investigate the public record? Those same people are commonplace idiots, I suppose. They have not been informed by their echochambers that these things are occurring and so the idea, to them, is crazy conspiracy. Now, those same idiots chose semantic debate about the use of some phrase or word choice instead of acknowledging their lack of awareness.

upsidesinclude··on A breakdown of Colorado's 'weather modification' program
Why is weather modification in quotation marks?
upsidesinclude··on A breakdown of Colorado's 'weather modification' program
Ten years ago, if someone mentioned weather modification, someone not unlike yourself would call them crazy conspiracy theorists.

Now you fully accept the fact that what they were claiming is true, but because you don't care for their vocabulary they are still conspiracy theorists....

This is kind of silly. What is a trail of chemicals left behind an airplane? They chose to say "chemtrail".

Don't you see how that is kind of upside down?

upsidesinclude··on Manufacturing certainty on the origin of Covid-19 is damaging to science
That's your take away?

I think the point is that all the people in the world and all the various information they have received leads them to believe that a laboratory studying this very virus was responsible for its release.

You chose to side with those that would blind themselves to any information that doesn't conform to a narrative

It does dawn on you that this is expressly written in a manner which entices the idea such congressional authority exists. And yet does not mean that the authority exists. One cannot grant what it does not have.

Get over the fact that a third of people in the country will go along with anything they're told and another third are so craven and cowardly they'll accept any answer at all to assuage their own fears?

Oh, alright.

upsidesinclude··on Plover: free, open-source stenography engine
"Okay google" is so gross. Totally the apex of imposed advertising.

Physically recoil in fact, like a bitter taste in my mouth.

However, as opposed to some assistant turning imaginary 'pages' in .epub, sitting alone in focused dictation is a really great way to explore your mind and have free roaming thought processes.

It is also not new in any sense, e.g., Dostoyevsky dictated The Idiot to a stenographer.

Honestly, I don't blame you. A genuine news release from a .gov site was not on the first couple pages of search results. However, that is by design.

The administration used news outlets to pump the mandate and companies preemptively executed the order.

OSHA does not yet have any policing powers, this was an attempt to generate them.

Very few sheriffs had the guts to publicly state they would not enforce unconstitutional covid mandates.

They were unconstitutional. That has been proven.

It was illegal for officers of the law to enforce them.

I don't think the primary law enforcement problem in the US is Sheriffs. Say what you will about police. These are not the same organizations.

Presumptuous.

Also, opinion.

You seem to be missing that harvard attracts exceptional (and well connected) people. Expanding the business to suit their skills is a natural evolution.

>...dining...

Uh, Harvard throws a huge number of fund raising events that have to be catered and no one cares about the name of the catering company if the food is trash. It's in the best interest of Harvard to set their own standards for their events

upsidesinclude··on A skeptical take on ChatGPT: Ezra Klein interviews Gary Marcus
The fact that ChatGPT is bullshit seems to be falling on deaf ears. It is a reason to be seriously concerned, not less.

This (and others) tool can develop or generate content fast and legitimate in appearance without accuracy.

Text, audio, video easy and cheap to produce that can completely overwhelm the true signal.

Our ability to discern what is real and factual is going to be obliterated.

What's possibly a greater insult to injury, the models will then use this comprehensive pool of useless information to further train itself.

We are inadvertently creating a tower of babel
