user3939382··on StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month
Look up answer, most are closed as off topic even though they're the leading answer to the question. Try to answer, closed as off topic. Bye SO you won't be missed.
user3939382··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
Cash App's stock transfer records in the app vs their backend reports and bank transfer amounts don't reconcile and always in their favor. Their and their partners' terms make no provision for this. I have proof, reported to SEC CFPB NYS no enforcement.
user3939382··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
I have proof Cash App is skimming stock trades. Their app and backend reports report different settlement amounts always in their favor, their app reports and transfer amounts don't reconcile. Nothing in their terms or partners' terms give them the right to do this. I reported to SEC CFPB NYS finance no action.

I miss Granite Canyon :(
user3939382··on Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains
Been using them for over a decade no problems fwiw
user3939382··on Laptop Based on 6502 CPU
A 6502 is capable of most actual workloads people have, whose profiles actually haven’t changed much. Almost all of our compute goes to GUI and rendering stacks that decorate our actual work.
user3939382··on PalmOS Lemmings
This is awesome, I wish I had it for my Treo.

I love and miss PalmOS. My current iPhone I can’t wait to get rid of it. It’s half owned by other companies, phoning home in the background all the time, addictive. My Palm devices really felt like mine.

user3939382··on MapQuest will now show you where Flock cameras are in your neighborhood
Countdown til Flock’s PR firm resets the controversy movement by renaming the company and it takes the public 5+ years to catch on again.
user3939382··on ICE Planning $100M 'Nightmare' Domestic Spy Program
Funding dragnet surveillance vs funding dragnet surveillance is the comparison. Not precisely sure what your bizarre example means but it’s nevertheless clearly a non-sequitur.
user3939382··on E Ink Kaleido 4
This is a genuine question not snark — are these the people with the patents holding up the entire industry?
user3939382··on Why I Wrote PGP (1991, revised 1999)
Signal isn’t owned by the users and independent of third parties the way PGP/GPG is so regardless of who will or won’t suggest a substitute it’s not.
user3939382··on ICE Planning $100M 'Nightmare' Domestic Spy Program
> The democrats did not create or propose

They funded and instrumented it. “Go off king”? Are we 14 year olds on TikTok here?

You sound very angry, guess I got a little too close to home. The lady doth protest too much.

user3939382··on How I manage persistent Claude Code loops: Spool
Yeah I noticed too. What an insane omission to have for so long.
user3939382··on ICE Planning $100M 'Nightmare' Domestic Spy Program
> when the democrats have a plan to create a 100M domestic surveillance program

Did you miss the Snowden reporting? How much do you think those programs cost? Whenever you hear someone’s political analysis contain “The Republicans…” “The Democrats…” you can be sure they have no grasp on how DC works.

user3939382··on ICE Planning $100M 'Nightmare' Domestic Spy Program
They are both bad. Every administration has used and advanced these types of programs. That’s inconvenient for those who wear a tribal badge.
user3939382··on Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet
Depends on the title and gap
user3939382··on 'AI' Is Not a Tool by Rich Hickey
First of all, Rich Hickey is a hero to me. It would be hard to respect someone more that I don’t personally know.

I think he has a useful line of thought here but should think about this more. The definition of a tool is a continuum. On the left are your bare hands, on the right, the presence of your neural will creates a perfect final product instantly.

Neither the LLM’s probabilism nor its presence unusually to the right here changes the definition of the continuum. Automation and tool are not orthogonal. Would we argue that a compiler or the JVM isn’t performing automation on the programmer’s behalf? Yet we literally call it a member of a toolchain.

His point stands about the hazards, the definition argument less so.

Apologies Rich but I use LLMs to write Clojure. IMHO it maximizes token spend efficiency and economics by focusing on domain logic rather than boilerplate.

user3939382··on Firefox Enterprise
Mozilla sold out its values with ads, telemetry etc hence the existence of LibreWolf, which should have no reason to exist.

I manage these types of decisions and won’t use it.

user3939382··on NYC's "Click to Cancel" rule is now in effect
If you actually ask them and push a little they’ll forgo that fee. Disclaimer: Adobe is the worst and can’t wait to see them crumble. If Intuit could also go…
user3939382··on IRCv3
It is in draft https://github.com/ircv3/ircv3-specifications/pull/562

Good v3 clients like The Lounge also offer it

user3939382··on IRCv3
> There is no video (or any other file) host on IRC servers.

Ircv3, the thread title, supports file sharing

user3939382··on IRCv3
I built a terraform based box that runs ergo ircd with The Lounge as a front end. So basically irc3 as an app server, but you can still federate where needed. Works great. Cheap, performant, I can integrate services into it without all Slack’s bullshit.
user3939382··on Netflix plans to cut 5% of its workforce

user3939382··on Netflix plans to cut 5% of its workforce
If it could be concentrated on the top 5% of upper management that would be a great start. Maybe we could get a few productions without a political agenda, or at least a different one?
user3939382··on Typesafe AI raises $870M at $7.5B
Investments aren’t made because the product is amazing, they’re made because there’s a compelling exit scenario. Engineers don’t want to hear this but more generally, the critical success factors for a business aren’t product or engineering they’re relationships i.e. sales and team dynamics. If technical excellence dictated business outcomes in tech Salesforce wouldn’t exist for example.
user3939382··on Keyboard differences between Windows and Macs
I switched to Mac 20 years ago and am still mourning the loss of my Home and End keys. Karabiner doesn’t reliably fix it neither does anything else.

user3939382··on Visa, Mastercard, major banks facing new litigation over 'anticompetitive' fees
> the cost of fraud

Fraud in modern financial systems is kind of.. funny? obvious? Local banks who know who Bob is can't make enough money due to scale, we'll scale that system to a national level with millions of participants. How will we do that? Bob is now customer 11,476,112. Oh no this anonymous number we created cheated us because we didn't know who he was, what do we do? Charge Bob and everyone else for the cost of this, our scaled up business model wouldn't work otherwise. We'll skim 3% off of every financial transaction infinitely, so that after our $100 virtual bill has changed hands 30 times it has disappeared into our coffers.

user3939382··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
Those are often files not directories. In that case I zero out the file (no bytes) then change ownership to root and -w it. Ridiculous you have to jump through these hoops to manage your own machine and Apple doesn’t bother to expose this anywhere.
user3939382··on Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance'
Is that characterization even controversial? Isn’t this their self description and marketing pitch?
