voxic11··on Safari introduces Adaptive Dark Mode in 27.3
They posted about the was in Ukraine being bad and their disappointment with the Belarusian governments participation in it. https://darkreader.org/blog/no-war/
voxic11··on Supermarket freezers across Europe hit by second suspected cyber-attack
I mean it was every year before this one yes
voxic11··on Police chief unplugs Flock cameras after company ignores contract cancellation
flock cameras aren't powered from the power grid, they have their own solar panels and batteries (which is what allows them to be deployed to quickly and widely) so I presume the article just meant unplugging those.
voxic11··on Brazilian Court Sanctions Lawyers for Prompt Injection in Court Filing
If you can trust the court to have the power to sanction people for "frivolous" arguments then surely you can trust them to sanction for prompt injections.
voxic11··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
Can you give some examples where victims are criminally prosecuted? Do you think this is common to the extent where you would call it the general case?
voxic11··on The $6.3B Binance hack was pulled off in just 20 minutes
Generally it's the people who have intent to break the law who are prosecuted, not their victims.
voxic11··on Microsoft and others tell crypto platform not to tokenize their stocks
Have you ever tried to actually buy and hold a stock yourself without a middlemen like a brokerage actually holding it for you? It's a very annoying and sometimes almost impossible process.

This is just a different kind of middlemen with different trade-offs.

voxic11··on 'Forced out': HOA fees to rise to $2,500 a month
You can only leave by selling your house which is what they did yes.
voxic11··on The Curse of Soldered RAM
I think this opinion is pretty out of touch, I can't think of a single family member who would say that upgrading RAM is important to them, I doubt most would be able to explain what RAM even is.
voxic11··on fheroes2: A recreation of Heroes of Might and Magic II game engine
People have been re-creating old games for much longer than AI has been around. This project, fheroes2, started development over 7 years ago and published it's 1.0.0 release 4 years ago. So it's safe to say it's made by humans.
voxic11··on Quad9 to exit France
Because continuing to provide the service to French users would mean they have not exited the jurisdiction. You cant provide services in a jurisdiction and at the same time expect not be subject to that jurisdiction. That's just not how any country treats legal jurisdiction.
voxic11··on The compiler was supposed to end programming too
might a compiler turn "float x = 3.1;" into no instructions at all in some situations? So it has at least 2 possible translations into assembly depending on the context.
voxic11··on Learning to live with Waymos
recording conversations can be eavesdropping very easily in all party consent states but there aren't generally laws against secretly video recording people (besides in specific intimate situations like bathrooms).
voxic11··on Toronto-Based VPN Provider Plans to Quit Canada over Lawful-Access Bill
Signal does a lot to ensure they don't actually know much of what is traditionally considered metadata (like their sealed sender scheme which prevents them from knowing who messages were sent by). Do you know if this bill would require them to roll back those protections?
voxic11··on Show HN: Giving Opus 5.5 a simulated paint canvas
No this is just it moving the mouse and viewing the results with it's vision capabilities.
voxic11··on An AI sovereign wealth fund isn't progressive – it's techno-imperialism
Its not a sovereign wealth fund, but China 100% owns China Tobacco and has generally avoided policy changes which could encourage people to stop smoking because it could hurt this extremely profitable company (China Tabacco has about 2x the before tax profit of Apple). https://www.theexamination.org/articles/deadliest-company-in...
voxic11··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
So maybe your proposed hefty fines actually need to be imposed on the states which haven't implemented the directive?
voxic11··on DraftKings Is Using AI to Behaviorally Target Chronic Gamblers
You get made a VIP if you lose a lot of money, not if you have a gambling problem. In fact being made a VIP is basically the only way that the company can identify problem gamblers besides self-reports (because its the only time people from the company actually talk directly to the user).
voxic11··on Climate is accumulating 4 Hiroshima atomic bombs worth of heat per second
To heat all the water in all the Earth's oceans by 1 degree Celsius it would require the energy equivalent of the detonation of roughly 87 billion Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs.
voxic11··on OpenAI still doesn't seem to have a handle on all of its rogue AI activity
The CFAA's main hacking charge has a high bar for intent. But the CFAA also has a separate "damaging a protected computer" charge (basically to criminalize DOS attacks) and that charge only requires negligence not specific intent.
voxic11··on My German Exit Tax: 13 Tax Advisors, 1.5 Years, 18.7k€ to leave the country
Those only apply if you renounce your citizenship, not if you simply change your country of residence. However, unlike Germany, the US taxes its citizens regardless of their country of residence so renouncing your citizenship and paying that exit tax is the only way to stop being responsible for paying US taxes.
voxic11··on Meta’s Muse has a serious 0-day
Yeah macOS security is capability based rather than purely identity based. So if you don't pass the required entitlements to an application then it cannot do stuff like read from the system keychain even if its running as your user.
voxic11··on Hugging Face is billing OpenAI $100M for hacking it
I believe HF said they did report it to the FBI.

> Hugging Face alerted the FBI.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/ai-agents-are-hacking-s...

voxic11··on German companies rely almost exclusively on AI models and services from the USA
German has been supported in Claude voice mode since May.
voxic11··on I used AWS cognito for a startup. I wouldn't do it again
Auth0 and Firebase both let you export user password hashes (though I believe you need to open a support ticket in order to do it in Auth0's case at least).

I think Cognito is actually one of the few with absolutely no path to achieving this.

voxic11··on EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
I think its so that like people don't need to do an EPA assessment for their home backup generator right? They are very common where I live due to the instability of the power grid.
voxic11··on Gemini 3.5 Transcribe
You can't get subsecond latency with 4o-transcribe.
voxic11··on Copyright does not protect AI-generated content in EU
Not paying anyone would be a violation of minimum wage laws. Or it would mean they are truly equal partners in the project who have no "employer" they are working under. In which case it does seem most fair that they would all own the copyrights to their contributions absent some other agreement to assign copyright.
voxic11··on Man Charged with 3 Felonies for Breaking 3D-Printed 'Decoy' Flock Camera
Attractive nuisance laws only apply to things likely to attract children, not grown adults.
voxic11··on OpenAI: GPT 5.6 Sol price reduction (until at least Nov 21)
Distillation a pretty well documented technique that actually pre-dates LLMs https://arxiv.org/pdf/1503.02531

Here is a project that guides you through it if you want to prove to yourself that it works https://github.com/arcee-ai/DistillKit
