I didn't suggest interchangeability at all. And no problem with credit. My commentary is on how people write about the actor.

I misspoke placing focus on them as people. I’m also referring to how people talk about performance. Of course he was a legendary performer. But a lot of the talk and this article is about things that were on paper or provided as direction. That’s just the script and I don’t see much articulation of what made him a good performer in ways beyond what he was told to express, aside from perhaps his aura (or as this crowd prefers, “presence”)
wahnfrieden··on Through Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart taught us the measure of a man
Those things are in the script and it’s his job to express them. I think most people don’t have the media literacy to express what the appreciate about a performance beyond what was already on the page and what what came from direction.

Gottfried doesn't have the range to express those, of course. You undersell Stewart's work if you express it in terms of what some others can't do - that makes him sound interchangeable with those who can express the scripted character.

Better comparison there is a line cook dying and praising how they executed some of the head chef’s recipes

It’s weird to me because he didn’t write the character and didn’t even watch the show. These tributes aren’t about him.

It’s like writing an obit about how much you like warmed hotdogs when local 7-11 worker dies and everyone sharing their taste for warm hotdogs in the comments.

I just don’t understand stabbing pointed fingers at the screen to use it vs tapping the pads of my fingers like an iPad.

Besides holding my arms up it’s also painful to keep my wrists bent to get a better angle for my fingers to articulate.

Huge screen that's pocketable and also your primary device (not a 2nd device you need to choose to carry in addition to your phone, and have a bag for) and ability to have 2 apps at once on iOS is in fact highly valuable for many.

I know plenty of people at Meta at a variety of levels without that kind of pedigree
wahnfrieden··on Ask HN: How to deal with shipping AI-written code you don't understand?
If you insisted on taking the time to do this in the OP’s role at Meta, I’m guessing that you’d be disciplined or fired for taking too long to produce work. You’d also be dropped into work of colleagues who didn’t produce UML before shipping their code.

wahnfrieden··on How Amazon pushes up prices all across the Internet
They're accusing me of cheating Amazon and having experienced a ban myself. Neither is the case and my post didn't indicate either being so.

IDK why I'm catching an accusation and downvotes by telling people about Amazon customer support protocols that are internal policy but not documented publicly: that they will ban you for returns past some threshold of frequency and price, and they offer refunds for items that arrive damaged even if they first push you to spend your time returning them instead.

wahnfrieden··on How Amazon pushes up prices all across the Internet
You're suggesting I've been banned for abusing the service?

I've never been banned and I don't abuse it. What I said is also true, that I don't drive etc.

I don't need to have been banned myself to know how they've operated with others. And seeking refunds for goods that were damaged upon arrival is not abuse. There's no need to give in to their first preference to return an item when it is in fact their policy to process refunds for them too, they just hide it behind customer service protocols instead of exposing it in UI. You don't need to settle for the first suggested remediation from a business's customer service to be ethical, or shaming people for escalating. That's just being a chump.
