wavefunction··on Monte Carlo methods – Why it's a bad idea to go to the casino
Blackjack has been a source of success for me though I'm unconventional in my betting strategy which seems to enrage the other players even when I break the dealer consistently.
wavefunction··on Western intelligence hacked Yandex to spy on accounts
I expect my government to spy on foreign citizens and governments. If they do something truly terrible like kill civilians or disrupt the natural society of a country I'd have to take a hard look. Google is a private firm and subject to market forces like boycotts over military contracting. It's because governments and Google are two very different things.
wavefunction··on Tourist's lucky guess cracks safe code on first try
Who said "ancient" other than you? You have no interest in what things were like 40 years ago?
wavefunction··on I just had over a thousand Euros stolen and Revolut is siding with the thief
I thought that she had steered some $78,000,000 in Federal projects to her husband's state and then there were also some questions about the business interests of her family members in China[0]. Also Deripaska[1] just announced he's funding an aluminum plant in Mitch McConnell's state so I suppose it does involve billions in Russian graft. wavefunction··on Facebook, Libra, and the Long Game
facebook has also proposed some sort of quasi-independent regulatory body to oversee facebook in an attempt to stave off government regulation.[0] It seems they really are trying to turn the nation states of the world inside out and make them subservient to corporations.

wavefunction··on Tech journalists troubled by Assange computer intrusion charge
Your issue lies with international extradition treaties it seems.
wavefunction··on Magic Leap Says Ex-Engineer Copied Headset for China
That's not what's being alleged though. Seems like a strange take.
wavefunction··on The Gorgon Stare, a military drone-surveillance technology
Current drones exist beyond sight
wavefunction··on A janitor at Frito-Lay invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (2017)
you'll find success in yourself and not fawning praise of hustle lifestyle pieces... or... you won't
wavefunction··on YouTube is working with Universal Music Group to remaster iconic music videos
Disney owns them know, all of it, all the intellectual rights. Plus it was a team effort and from what I've read much of the best aspects of Star Wars can be traced to people other than George Lucas.
wavefunction··on Turbinia – An Uninvited Guest (2014)
Trains don't really swim though, at least not very well.
wavefunction··on US Steel is idling plants, despite tariffs designed to save them
Many of the people in US prisons belong there. The same can't be said of the inhabitants of Xinjiang concentration camps.
wavefunction··on Facebook reveals its cryptocurrency Libra
And more importantly for them Visa/Pay Pal/Mastercard aren't outflanked by their own competitors. There's little noble to this endeavor by these characters.
wavefunction··on Richard Baldwin on the “inhumanely fast” next phase of globalization
That appears to be an unfounded assertion given what I've found comparing inflation adjusted average car prices: https://blog.chron.com/carsandtrucks/2016/04/cost-of-a-car-i...

The average car price from 1967 is $3000 cheaper in 2016 dollars than the 2016 average car price. That may be due to a number of factors but I'm at least providing some data to back up my assertions.

wavefunction··on Richard Baldwin on the “inhumanely fast” next phase of globalization
You can post a long wall of text but the actual claim is that FUTURE DISRUPTION due to globalization and automation will destroy existing jobs faster than new jobs that the displaced workers can move into can be created. Please respond to the actual subject of discussion in the future.
wavefunction··on Richard Baldwin on the “inhumanely fast” next phase of globalization
Car sales in total have increased though. Due to the population of the world and adoption of automobiles in the rest of the world as well.

I don't find any compelling arguments to disprove what a lot of seeming educated and intelligent researchers and social critics are saying regarding the coming disruption of the labor market.

wavefunction··on Richard Baldwin on the “inhumanely fast” next phase of globalization
It seems like the people studying this stuff disagree with your opinion: https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2019/02/25/automat...
wavefunction··on Only 37 dogs of each breed can have the same name
>akc as rent seeking monstrosity

I don't really have a... dog in this hunt... but anyone could start up their own dog registry with whatever rules they want. I don't believe the AKC has preempted competition via regulatory capture, for example.

wavefunction··on Hong Kong Protests Live Updates: Police Violence Puts Government on Defensive
The UK proved that rubber bullets can kill people[0]. The French first deployed tear gas during WWI.

wavefunction··on Japan outlaws flying drones while drunk
Yes, Japanese is an adjective that would modify "outlaws" while Japan is a proper noun itself.
wavefunction··on Earliest known signs of cannabis smoking unearthed in China
Or simply processing many plants into hash such has been done for millenia in various cultures around the world.
wavefunction··on When murderers were hanged quickly (2014)
I am one of those people who is opposed to the death penalty but in favor of life in prison without parole. In my thinking this punishment is/should be reserved for the worst and most heinous crimes against other people, whether that is murder of or violence against another individual or perhaps also white collar crimes of sufficient scale. I see nothing wrong with depriving a criminal of their own life and freedom if they consciously did the same to others. They also don't have a potentially limited period for exculpatory evidence to arise like with the death penalty.
wavefunction··on Chinese Cash Is Suddenly Toxic in Silicon Valley, Following U.S. Pressure
It could be xenophobia. It could be money laundering regs. It could be "national security concerns" which may be xenophobia or may be legitimate.
wavefunction··on More People Will Die as a Result of Texas’ Red Light Camera Ban
It's not up to the city, this was a Texas state-level legislative change just like when the Texas state legislature in recent years pre-empted municipal regulations regarding plastic bags, tree removal, ride-hailing, time-off from work, and other municipal enacted regulations.
wavefunction··on Ivan Golunov, an investigative reporter at Meduza, has been arrested in Moscow
Too bad this actual journalist doesn't have celebrities queuing up to advocate on his behalf. This sounds like a classic frame-up. https://meduza.io/en/feature/2019/06/08/moscow-police-say-iv...
wavefunction··on The decline of the family has unleashed an epidemic of loneliness
America was indeed founded by immigrants seeking a "better life" whether that was Puritans fleeing persecution or economic opportunists. It's not like anyone immigrated to America simply to "pioneer" for pioneering's sake.
wavefunction··on Physicists Debate Hawking’s Idea That the Universe Had No Beginning
I have wondered in the past if "time" has varied over the existence of the Universe, like if the first 100,000,000 years relative to our own reckoning was actually more like 100 billion years as time is elastic and changed over some other higher-dimensional axis. Just a musing by a speculator
wavefunction··on Too Many People Want to Travel
I have to admit that I've wrestled with frustration at what I perceive to be people traveling to "tick off the boxes" whether that is going to Machu Pichu or some Instagram famous spot just to get a selfie of themself "experiencing" the place and then immediately leave without perhaps "experiencing" the place as I understand "experiencing" to truly consist of.
wavefunction··on SEC Charges Kik With Conducting $100M Unregistered ICO
People derive enjoyment from lotteries and scratch tickets. I agree that some people exhibit problematic behavior by spending some of their limited funds on these items but that is their right. I'd rather these entertainment sources be captured by the state for the good of all its people than administered privately or clandestinely.
