xky··on Figure 03, our 3rd generation humanoid robot
If humanoid robots can perform ok on a broader set of tasks then they could reach economies of scale that a robot arm might not.
xky··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2024)
What about just “Ask HN: What are you tinkering with?” You can tinker with an idea in your head as well so that works.
xky··on Causal Joins the Lucanet Group
Lucanet seems like the kind of financial software behemoth Causal was supposed to challenge. I can't help but feel a little disappointed.
xky··on Show HN: Boardzilla, a framework for making web-based board games
Meta also pursues trademarks applicants for trademarks ending in 'book' as well.
xky··on ASP.NET Core Blazor
Blazor provides a number of render models or modes. You can now create SSR websites with streaming.
xky··on ASP.NET Core Blazor
The .Net team has made pretty significant strides in minimizing the bundle size and I would expect that to continue. It’s now also possible to combine pre-rendering and streaming with web assembly to improve the loading experience.
xky··on ASP.NET Core Blazor
We evaluated a few options and settled on Blazor after tiring of the build chain and dependency complexity of the TypeScript world. So far, it’s been nothing but a breath of fresh air to work with.

It’s important to clarify which model you’re working with when discussing Blazor. A lot of complaints seem to stem from using the Blazor server websocket model outside of its specific use cases. The web assembly and prerendered models are more comparable to modern developments in other ecosystems.

There’s also this video overview of the system.

xky··on Vanmoof S3 E-bike Review
You beat me to it. I'm wondering the same thing.
xky··on Vanmoof S3 E-bike Review
I live in Berlin where many people live in low-rise apartments with no elevators and keep their bikes downstairs. I believe this is quite common for many cities in Europe. What I don't understand is how people are charging their bikes. Are they really lugging this thing up multiple flights of stairs and charging it in their apartments every few days? I've heard it's pretty heavy. Or, does it not need to be charged very often?
xky··on Vercel, formerly Zeit, raises $21M Series A
To me, it sounds like a medication.

xky··on How VCs Make Money
I have not tried it but I have seen it done. Some VCs like to have in-house technical expertise to better assess candidate companies. I'm not sure if it would be a clean transition but there definitely seems to be a pathway for it.
xky··on Math Looks the Same in the Brains of Boys and Girls, Study Finds
It's great but I'd like it better if they used more appropriate tags rather than just p tags everywhere.
xky··on It took 12 weeks to ship an MVP I thought would take 3
Similar but I’ll ask for a range which has a built in confidence level. A lot of developers are very reluctant to give estimates for various reasons but if the reason is that they don’t know where to start, I’ll do a thought experiment with them.

I ask first will the task take 20 years to finish and they usually laugh and say of course not. Then I ask what about 20 seconds and they laugh again. We keep going on both sides of the boundary until they stop laughing and it starts sounding more reasonable.

Then I have something to work with like 3 to 6 months which gives me more options. I can accept the risk or I can take other steps to reduce it or break it into more manageable bites. It’s not perfect but it’s worked pretty well.

xky··on Men View Their Ex-Partners More Favorably Than Women Do: Study
Thanks for explaining in more detail. This is not my area of expertise at all. Would it not be possible to draw strong conclusions about “men’s” behavior broadly in the same way we do for male Chimpanzees for example?
xky··on Men View Their Ex-Partners More Favorably Than Women Do: Study
Why?
xky··on Bladder cancer 'attacked and killed by common cold virus'
Your parent was not being snarky. The parroting is snarky and doesn’t assist your point.
xky··on Ask HN: How much commission should I pay?
What is your margin?
xky··on Ask HN: I Got Deported from USA to Kenya
This seems like a much better course of action OP.
xky··on Ask HN: I Got Deported from USA to Kenya
This comes across as a mean comment. Was that your intention?
xky··on Ask HN: I Got Deported from USA to Kenya
Thanks for elaborating. I think the sentiment of the original post is good but your suggestions are more reasonable and practical.
xky··on Ask HN: I Got Deported from USA to Kenya
Why is this a ridiculous suggestion and would you propose something else?
xky··on Ask HN: I Got Deported from USA to Kenya
It's possible this person is known to the HN community but would prefer to keep their identity private for this question however I agree with your sentiment, these posts should only be accepted in exceptional circumstances. There are other, perhaps even more beneficial places to ask for this kind of help.

I would genuinely like to know more about how this person is connected to this community or how they discovered it and what they thought this community in particular could assist with. Could you address that OP?

xky··on Kindle DX as E-Ink computer monitor (2012)
I'm hoping we see color e-ink displays integrated into TV displays so they're not such an eyesaw when not in use.
xky··on EU to move ahead with cultural quotas for streaming services
Can this be easily gamed by just uploading a boat load of local, public domain content and burying it in the depths of the catalogue?
xky··on The Monopoly-Busting Case Against Google, Amazon, Uber, and Facebook
I like how the Google products I use work together and worry that a broken up Google would worsen my user experience.
xky··on Ask HN: How to organize personal knowledge?
I recommend Notion as well.
xky··on A spreadsheet of the businesses I've started over the past 15 years
I think this person meant you can learn from the "lottery" that is startups unlike a regular lottery.
