yangyang42··on Ask HN: Review our webapp (Sproost); team met on HN
I disagree on the signup.

I think the placement of the signup is quite nice. Why? because my test result accurate depicted my taste and I was curious to see more.

Needless to say, I signed up.

Didn't buy anything though... everything was way expensive.

yangyang42··on Ask YC: What do you think of my new search engine?
for me, it was enticing enough to give it a try.

okay, Here's the first thing I tried, because I was actually looking for it:

try to search for: "mashable wordpress theme" ... FAIL! you took me to search the mashable site for "wordpress theme" tags, which returned nothing.

however, when I searched "wordpress theme" ... SUCCESS, kinda. What I was looking for displayed on the right, in recent news.

It's okay. I think something definitely needs to be improved here.

Hope that helps.

Good luck.

yangyang42··on Ididwork (YC Summer 08) Launches
I would agree, the "time poor" issue is obvious. However, I've been testing this out a little and figure to try it on myself first (me managing me).

My first impression--besides idiotwork--is that they really make things simple. They seems to be going for the twitter, microblogging style for management. They really reduce a lot of the fat out of managing tasks and reporting.

I like how it just asks, "What did you do?" Instead of, "what's the progress?" "what are your road blocks?" "are you sure you're not critical path?" I'm not sure if this tool will answer those questions, but I'm not sure if they're aiming to do that either.

But then again, I'm not as "time poor" as some may be.

yangyang42··on The (Highly Controversial) YouNoodle Startup Predictor Is Coming
I'd be interested see how YC companies are valued by this predictor.

YouNoodle may or may not be an accurate predictor, but I bet they're good at predicting which teams/startups are likely to get funding from investors/VCs.

yangyang42··on Google To Launch Venture Fund
I agree, but I also find it a little humorous. I don't think it's such a big deal.

my answer: Enthusiasm/Passion.

suggestion: your question could be better answered through a poll.

Congrats, Brett! remember not to break the chain, ok?

yangyang42··on Socialbrowse: Y Combinator Startup is Twitter For Links
holy crap.

Second impression: I'm hooked.

This application is so sticky. I am now following only a few people, but occasionally seeing their links on the bottom of my browser is becoming very interesting/addicting.

I am also browsing through some of my old bookmarks and sharing them.

IMHO, I'm finding this application to be much more compelling than Twitter.

yangyang42··on Socialbrowse: Y Combinator Startup is Twitter For Links
I'm trying it now.

First impression: Totally Awesome!

yangyang42··on Packed House At Y Combinator Startup School
Another highlight: Arrington's desktop.

(Did anybody get a good shot of what was on there?)

yangyang42··on Ask YC: Learning circuit/hardware; lab book?
I don't have any good books in mind, but I think you need to know what you're really interested in learning about hardware. Define "very, very familiar with electronics."

You might want to think about electronics on several level and topics:

- Board Level: Op Amps, Feedback Control Systems... etc.

- Chip Level IC design: Analog IC design, Bipolar/CMOS design... etc.

- Firmware: C, Assembly language...

...each of these topics are semester/year long courses on its own. I can recommend books in each topic, but have not seen a do-it-all, teach-it-all book.

as attack said, "the topic area is more broad than you'd think."

yangyang42··on If your GPS device told you to drive off a cliff, would you do it?
