yq··on All Delisted Steam Games
"I specifically checked to see if 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution' was delisted.

While the game was upgraded to the 'Director's Cut,' the original version (without the Director's Cut content) is no longer available."

yq··on Amazon major accounts breach
There are more post on social media about the breach now. There was no interaction with Amazon.com at all, I tried to login Amazon.com minutes after receiving these two emails. The result shows the account does not exist on Amazon.com anymore. Again, didn't click any link, it just happened.

>This often works wonders as people re-use the same password elsewhere. Was your password unique to your Amazon account?

I really doubt it. The way password managed and password used on this Amazon account is HackerNews approved.

yq··on Firefox tracks users with Google Analytics in the add-on settings

As I mentioned in #1107: we will not be
  removing analytics support entirely. It
is extremely useful to us and we have
  already weighed the cost/benefit of
  using tracking.
“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power.”

Mozilla Developer also mentioned:

Actually, @muffinresearch pointed out we could probably just observe Do Not Track here,
because this pane is actually a web page loaded in an iFrame inside the browser page.
That might be faster to ship. Just thinking aloud

I'm definitely for giving users the option to disable this.

yq··on 13M Pages of Declassified CIA Documents Posted Online
Since the landing page required everyone interested to enter a keyword to search, the back-end server can record all query and ip-addrs.

I doubt if WikiLeaks.org use this exact same method to study what document attract traffic|attention. WikiLeaks' new releases are not signed by PGP anymore, I take that as either a Warrant Canary or some kinds of warning.

Of course, if everything packed in a torrent, then there's no way to conduct such a study.

yq··on Don't build private clouds
Just few things happened recently related to data on cloud.

1> Google deleted People's account who bought Pixel from reseller. They have to beg google to restore their data, contacts. Not going to happened if you have it in your own cloud.

2> Windows 10 is full of telemetry. Imagine someone knows exactly what software you used, when you used it, for how long. Advertisement are built-in with system level. You don't own your machine anymore, Windows 10 can decide when it want to upgrade itself then lock you out from using it for hours. Your data now is in Microsoft's cloud, but you don't decide how they can use it, who they are going to sell to.

For depository reason? Sure of course, cloud is reliable on up time, expandable with a few click. But if Cloud provider decided to wipe the account with whatever reason, what you are going to do?

yq··on 1000W LED on a Drone [video]
I have seen RC helicopter powered by 2-stroke gasoline engine. I wonder why there isn't any Drone use that engine, it basically provide more fly time, more lift power and short "charge" hours.

yq··on If you care about privacy, you should not use Google Allo
Few questions,

1>how do you handle cellphones?

I found there is few option that you can have LTE network without giving up your identity.

2>how do you handle online payment/shopping such as Amazon?

yq··on What I Learned From an Unsuccessful Launch
It is always so obvious when you have similar experiences(founders, maybe):

#0:I left my job to work on my side projects.
Never quit your real job unless you gained traction from your project.

#1: the project does not motivate me any more.
I had exactly the same problem from my previous startup. Later I found out it is because of long hours work without enough exercises.

From my experiences, you need to prepared to explain your project/company with 2 sentences at most. Otherwise you will get lost during the development, also your project is probably too complicated.

yq··on Apple Stole My Music
Back to DOS, You have to load your MXCDEX001 driver in order to use your CD-ROM.
yq··on A year after launch, it’s now clear that pretty much no one needs an Apple Watch
I found people who wear Apple watch are solely the reviewers on Youtube. One time I found someone has one in front of me while ordering coffee. Turns out he is working at Genuis bar.
yq··on Hacking my Tesla Model S
I really concerned about ownership of everything today.

Recent events such as Nest from Google, a company can decide to shutdown your device. Cellphones that don't come with root are the trend. Recent games require player to stay online for completely nothing other than DRM purpose. And by the way, how can someone in Tesla just downgrade people's car because he got root?

This is just the beginning of kill switch. Big companies just field testing how tolerate customers are nowadays. Once the new become the norm, you don't know what comes next.

yq··on China is no longer a nation of tech copycats
You can transfer money with wechat.

Wechat has a eco system that links to your checking account. Therefore, you can pay your bills: Taxi, fresh fruit from street, pre-order movie seat while you are on the way. I had an two weeks no-wallet-challenge last year in china. The 3rd day I gave up, not because it doesn't work, but it sounds like documentary about surfing internet nonstop for 24 back to Y2K years.

payment: https://www.techinasia.com/day-with-wechat-payments-in-store...

movie: http://www.smartshanghai.com/articles/smsh/how-to-buy-movie-...

whatsapp, snapchat etc still not very close to wechat on these functions.

yq··on China is no longer a nation of tech copycats
Wechat, High-speed train, Taobao's 11.11 sales, DJI Uav, Buses, hikvision, Foxit PDF, SPMC.

yq··on Dear Apple, there’s nothing ‘really sad’ about using a 5-year-old PC
semi-Related:iCar release date rumours, features and images: Apple CEO Tim Cook comments on Apple Car rumours

http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/apple/will-apple-make-icar-pr...

Reading related news is interesting. Imagine Apple applies its tactics on their cars: You probably need a new apple designed plugin other than the universal one, special tools to change flat tires and/or update the exterior slightly to market therefore driving a 5-year-old car is sad.

yq··on Show HN: Diskache – Combine SSD with HDD on Windows
Shower thought about this: Instead of create a ULTRA FAST virtual disk by unused memory such as ramdisk, diskache.io can create a ULTRA LARGE virtual disk to cache.
yq··on Chrome Cleanup Tool
I am not connect to Tronscript in anyway.

It is simply a great automatic tool that really clean up a lot of problem.

yq··on Chrome Cleanup Tool
If you are using Windows, also consider Tronscript, which fights for the User.

https://github.com/bmrf/tron/blob/master/README.md#stage-1-t... https://www.reddit.com/r/TronScript/

It de-bloat all useless software installed by OEM, BleachBit your computer, purge telemetry which tracking users, Disinfect virus and optimize computer. Most of the strange problem will go away from my experiences.

It is one tool that I will highly recommend to someone who really want a clean computer.

yq··on Most Popular Google Chrome Extensions
How can some plugin reach million of installs but only few comments left?

What can install/comment ratio tell us?

yq··on Give Google Contributor a try: Pay to remove ads
I like advertisement.

I use Tasla before they are popular; Windows Mobile while they are not in the news steam; The first iPhone; The very first Gen Intel SSD; 64GB rams while 256 MB is the standard, and still can go on.

Advertisements in a media act as an amplifier that fit the majority in our social system.

Now go back to our topic: Can the Google Ads show me the next SSD? Will it show me the next self-drive car? No it cannot at this stage. But when it can, I will desperate or probably pay to read those advertisements.

yq··on Give Google Contributor a try: Pay to remove ads
I am +1 with Nursie.

Ad's never work for me, I occasionally turn off ad-blocking to see how google looks like with ADs. None of those advertising will work for fit what I am really looking for.

If I want something, I probably know what, where, how, when already.

If someone need 24 4tb SSD to setup a Raid, the chance they will get it from an advertiser instead of someone who has well established a logistics channel, reputation over years, excellent return policy, is probably zero.

I would love to see Advertisement which I can say:" Wow I must have one." But sadly Google has some more works to do there.

Somehow google has solve partially of it: YouTube reviews. They are one of the only few advertisement that work, at least to me.
