It's the same with capital Z.
zmk_··on Pirate Weather: A free, open, and documented forecast API
On Android, there is an awesome app called Flowx. Probably the best weather app I have used.

There is odrive that converts most cloud storage to placeholder model.

Which is called bootstrapping.

In the countries that you think of as having 'strong, fair, and just judicial systems' governments typically control only the fiscal policy. Monetary policy is left to some independent entity. For countries with fixed exchange rates it is also impossible to have autonomous monetary policy without imposing restrictions on capital mobility. This also applies to blocks of countries, e.g., none of the individual governments of euro countries have control over the bloc's monetary policy.
zmk_··on US companies hit by 'colossal' cyber-attack
I'm quite sure that it was the whole POS. The Coop next to where I live accespts Swish (QR/mobile payment) and it was closed as well.
zmk_··on US companies hit by 'colossal' cyber-attack
But that was my point exactly. Sure, you can live in Sweden without even knowing how cash looks like so it is cashless in a way. But, if the cash register is not functioning then you are done* with or without cash in your pocket.

* I'd wager that if you know the prices and keep track of what you sell, you'd be fine recording the transactions after the fact.

You can pay with cash at Coop. Most if not all cash registers allow cash payments. Most customers don't pay with cash.
zmk_··on Is Julia Really Fast?
In this code, the main problem---I think---is that there are intermediate results that are being allocated, e.g., Fk_1 * Pu * Fk_1'. I will speculate that you could improve on the baseline code by preallocating these in the same way as Pp, K, aux1, and Pu are initialized outside of the loop.

Try Dropsync [1], you can sync particular folders to your Drobpox. The sync is bidirectional. There is a similar app for Google Drive as well.

Everyone should know 10 years in advance to write nuanced posts.
zmk_··on Why have cameras and lenses become so expensive?
It might be even worse, if I recall correctly, Hasselblad might be only responsible for the color science.
zmk_··on Mauryan Polish
I'd say it is misleading rather than disappointing. The word is not capitalized in the Wikipedia article and titlecase is not a requirement here either.
zmk_··on Why is the Gaza Strip blurry on Google Maps?
They work very well via VPN. I used Google's navigation in Shanghai.
zmk_··on Principal Component Analysis Explained Visually
Not if many columns in your data are driven by some common latent factors.
zmk_··on Principal Component Analysis Explained Visually
Plenty of examples for these in finance and economics (term structure, asset pricing factors).
zmk_··on Äike – First e-scooter developed and assembled in Europe
I would say durable rather than luxurious. The breaks were, but I'd say the tires weren't. I am yet to experience something like this on my v8f. There are other advantages of larger motors, like ability to ride uphill at larger inclines. Scooters are easily overpowered there and essentially useless in more hilly places. Bottom line is, that I am yet to meet a person who tried an EUC and prefers a scooter.
zmk_··on Äike – First e-scooter developed and assembled in Europe
Yes. The budget starts at 1000EUR vs 250EUR. The difference is much less once you realize that you probably want two (disc?) breaks, probably suspension, larger wheel size. When I was making the purchase it was basically same price at that point.

Yes. It takes a few hours to learn to ride an EUC. But I'd wager that EUCs are safer because of that. Most accidents on rental scooters happen to first-time/occasional users. The fact that you need to learn how to ride an EUC gives you an appreciation of how bad things can go if you push farther than your skill allows.

In the end, EUCs are safer (larger wheel doesn't get locked in small potholes), more comfortable even without suspension, break faster due to more powerful motor, and are more compact.

zmk_··on Äike – First e-scooter developed and assembled in Europe
EUCs are even better in all respects and allow you to transport more as you have both hands "free".
zmk_··on A Brief History of the Hedge Fund
Not only was it possible to lose money, some hedge funds did. Just look at Renaissance's non-insider funds.
zmk_··on Onyx BOOX Nova3 Color, the first color ereader supports writing
OneNote is not funcional. You can quite easily set it up so that your notes sync as PDFs to the cloud (Dropbox/Google Drrive/One Drive) via a3rd party syncing app. I use that and it works great. My notes sync to my desktop and I can add/remove papers from my desktop as well.
zmk_··on Gradient Free Optimizers: A collection of modern optimization methods in Python
They probably mean that you can search in n-dimensional cubes, but what they'd like is having a more general shapes of the grid, e.g., have restriction of the sort: a+b<1.
zmk_··on Google Deleted over 100k Negative Robinhood Reviews
Commissions have the same impact, increasing your effective spread.
zmk_··on Deskreen – Turn any device with a web browser to a second computer screen
You can try Parsec as well. Not created for this purpose but works very well for productivity. In my experience maintains 60fps.
zmk_··on Peer-reviewed study suggests that lockdowns have little effect on Covid spread
Maybe I'm blind but I given a diagonal read I couldn't find the sample size. Most of the restrictions were being introduced in the spring and at the same time. This probably leads to some issues: little cross-sectional information to identify the effects of all the different types of lockdowns; limited testing means that we do not know how many cases were there and we only knew of the most severe ones.
zmk_··on Apple Announces App Store Small Business Program
It's only standard as Apple was first through the gate with this scheme for online marketplaces. They got to copy the split from brick-and-mortar (without the accompanying costs like restocking) and everyone else followed suit.
zmk_··on ReMarkable tablet open source tools and hacks
Boox Note Air is similar price and you can comfortably read PDFs on it. Onyx's PDF reader is very good.
zmk_··on Central Bank Digital Currencies are coming
They have not decided whether e-krona would be a 'account-based' (like you say) and a competing/backup payment system. Or a 'value-based' where it's 'stored on a card'. At the same time they do not want to impact lending facilities of banks so if they go with the first option they will most likely deemphasize it considerably to keep deposits in traditional banks. The 2nd option seems to me like a total fail, similar to what Chipknip was in the Netherlands. The main motivation for the ekrona seems to be the move away from cash, but Sweden has been cashless for a long time now (between Swish and cards).
