zshrdlu··on AI is forcing us to pay off 40 years of technical debt
Well it's more like generated not written.
zshrdlu··on How I use AI (Oct 2026)
I suppose it's because his job is AI research specifically.

Watched the last one. Why are they drenched in sweat all the time? Also amusing they're still wrangling with certificates, a true dystopia! I mean it's a video alright, if that's the point. Frame by frame imagery.

> Every interaction with software these days feels like this, more and more. Just breakages everywhere

I've noted the same but even before llms so I can't draw a conclusion there. I find strange issues with software I cannot explain. Not only breakages or bugs but also a strange lack of core features and UI/UX that leaves me wondering "am I dumb?".

Cuts both ways though, right? You can also quit without notice, you're not obliged to pay your employer severance.

Yeah but 1,2,3 are issues that can be sorted with AGENTS.md, no?

Not sure whether it's good marketing, but interesting insight into the industry.
zshrdlu··on SQLAlchemy 2.1.0 Released
Having used it in a code-base that had a lot of business logic and objects, I don't mind it at all. It's a transpiler is all. Plus at no point were we married to it, you could generate your query any which way you please, or even hand-craft them if it was getting in your way or your mood shifted.
zshrdlu··on Terence Tao: Math 2.0 [pdf]
At this point nearly everyone is using autopilot. It's supposedly just a question of whether the user is a trained pilot or not. The trained pilots resist calling what they're doing "vibe coding", leaving that label to the untrained pilots.
zshrdlu··on Five months treating bugs like patients and coding agents like a medical team
Seems to me it's just research and experimentation.
zshrdlu··on What even is an OS now?
The argument here is that the hacker ethos is what brought us free/open-source stuff that facilitated us getting where we are today, and that the hacker ethos getting eroded spells doom for widespread free/open-source computing.
zshrdlu··on What even is an OS now?
Why would it necessarily be proprietary? Where are the hackers who love tinkering with stuff in the meantime? Aren't they going to create free/open-source stuff? Isn't that what they've always done?
zshrdlu··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2026)
Well how many people are working on truly novel features?
zshrdlu··on My favorite nonfiction books about cults, scams, and schemes
In a very different vein, I have read a number of books recently that feature a surprising amount of "scam and schemes":

- The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan, about the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression. A lot of people were scammed into settling the high plains by railroad salesmanship and other "real estate" scams.

- The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown. A book about the harrowing Donner Party. Scamming and scheming are what draw them out to that expedition.

- The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman. WW1 history but it boils down to the scheming of various men in the respective countries.

- The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power, Daniel Yergin. The oil rush from America to the World. Scheming features prominently to say the least.

Nothing wrong really if the python in turn uses libraries with c bindings or something.
zshrdlu··on US debt tops $40T as Treasury doubles bond buybacks to calm markets
Not at all true for most developing countries, they borrow despite the high interest. It just means that the burden of interest payments squeeze out welfare programs, development programs, etc. Usually the IMF/World Bank step in to influence austerity measures, fiscal and monetary policy for further loans to be disbursed.
zshrdlu··on Dress made of living mycelium can renew and repair itself
Well you gotta recharge it of course, just not with a power cord.

Checkmate of a move asking for the passport along with the resume. The latter should stand in for the former before an offer is made.
zshrdlu··on Clojure 1.13 adds support for checked keys
I think for some people it's an aesthetic knee-jerk reaction and the fact that it's "unusual" for a programming language. It's not like their brains "can't grok" -- it's just syntax after all. People don't tend to have that reaction to xml for some reason. It's data, so it gets a pass. But then this is code-as-data and they have to break that barrier conceptually and then get past the aesthetic knee-jerk reaction.

Supposedly. If the productivity boost is good for commercial software it's good for open source.

I will attempt a reductio ad absurdum: why do anything other than print dollars then? Why farm? Why build anything? Why not just use the magic wand all the way?
