233mhz··on A wave of plastic-free coffee pods and machines
Coffee machines are a luxury, plastic or not it doesn't matter, it'll be so small in your overall footprint. The first and second order effects of coffee production will outweigh it by a factor of at least 1000.

It's like stopping using aspirin because "drugs are bad" while doing meth every day

233mhz··on A wave of plastic-free coffee pods and machines
If you care enough about the environment to get rid of plastic you should get rid of coffee too, this argument makes no sense
233mhz··on Basically no one is using AI agents for their DoorDash orders
I called my dentist because I was sick and wanted to move my appointment. You can't talk to a human anymore, it's all ai, after a bit of back and forth it assured me it had canceled my appointment and booked a new one 2 days later. I was actually surprised it went so well

The next day I get an email at 7pm telling my appointment was successfully rescheduled for 1pm (the same day), none of these match either my og appointment nor the rescheduled one

When I went to the dentist for the appointment the ai assistant supposedly rebooked, they told me there was a mistake and I was assigned a kids dentist.

In the end I had to rebook a third appointment with the receptionist

> Americans and the US as a whole are the most charitable in the world.

Yeah because it includes lobbies and turbo billionaire pastors from texas using "charity" money to buy rolls royces as well as other highly retarded """charities""" that aren't even legal in the rest of the developed world

> We have separation of church and state.

You have senators and wannabe senators quoting the bible on TV as their guiding star as we speak right now, give me a break

On top of that you can separate the church and the state all you want, when people like Thiel show up it doesn't matter, these people are deeply troubled, if they were muslim and saying 1/10th of what he says you'd send them to guantanamo

> the nazis more effective or the khmer rouge.

They literally targeted people for their past opinions, how they looked, etc. which you can now determine and process at break neck speed, you can even remove humans from the loop and have the machine determine who's an undesirable or not.

How is this a serious question lol?

233mhz··on Geoffrey Hinton: it might turn out we were better off without AI
Profit above all else, deregulation at all cost, "we're the police of the world", christian brained politicians, etc.

> OpenAI and Anthropic let the public use their AI models.

Oh, how nice of them, such charitable souls...

233mhz··on Geoffrey Hinton: it might turn out we were better off without AI
> Releasing artificial intelligence for the use of all of humanity is better than it being controlled by one or more shadow groups. That's what the Americans did

Uh? In what universe are openai and anthropic not shadow groups?

> If it weren’t US companies, it would be others.

There is something deeply rotten about the US mindset though, them being American is definitely a problem.

> Look at what happened with fossil fuels.

The west had a 100 years head start, on top of that these countries are producing everything you consume, don't start pointing fingers. Chinese current co2 per capita is the same as the US in 1900

I mean, it could if "we" "just" got out of globalized financial capitalism, changed everything about our political, economical, financial, social systems, etc.

Only 14 years old and accelerationists think we can just push the capitalism pedal further and somehow get social changes going their way

You can also keep it and return a bag of flour weighing the same.

Or even go to people houses and rob them at gun point to steal their hardware.

imho you should act as if everything you type, not even send, is stored forever and might be used for training whenever they decide to retro actively change their TOS, no matter how much money you pay
233mhz··on AI stocks slide as Texas governor result raises data center risks
That's the logical conclusion of globalized capitalism, isn't that what Americans always voted for? Why do they complain about it now? Ah right, they're starting to lose at the game they invented

China living rent free in every single American mind is the funniest shit ever. We should study this, most successful propaganda campaign ever.

Aha what a loser thing to do, I personally have a fleet of 347 agents running 24/7 talking to my parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, asking them how they're doing and wishing them a happy birthday when the time comes. I can finally focus on the important things!
233mhz··on Bones may release proteins that slow aging and extend life span
I think you're downplaying the complexity of cancers, viruses are also sort of a single thing, if you don't think too long about it, yet you will never find a single "cure for viruses"

233mhz··on Pi Is the Last Harness
Claude code is bloated af, super slow and doesn't give better results the most harnesses. Using codex, claude code and omp back to back makes it painfully clear.

The only place showing some numbers is https://frontierharness.org/ but it isn't really up to date, it's easy to test yourself though

233mhz··on Proton's CEO Cancels AI 'Re-Interviews'
Techies are getting a glimpse at how other employees have always been treated all along, and they don't like it.

Maybe they'll start unionising more, back in the days as long as they had a coffee and a chair they never complained...
