Borgz··on macOS Golden Gate Is a Buggy Mess
Seems like most people think the NS prefix stands for NeXTSTEP. What do you think?
Borgz··on Codeberg Bans Cryptocurrency Projects
Can you provide any links regarding the Forgejo incident? I haven't heard about that.
Borgz··on ReactOS
It never was supposed to be.
Borgz··on An Unbothered Jimmy Wales Calls Grokipedia a 'Cartoon Imitation' of Wikipedia
As it is, Grokipedia is not a threat to Wikipedia because relative to Wikipedia, almost nobody is using it.

Additionally, an encyclopedia reader likely cares about accuracy significantly more than average.

Borgz··on New in Firefox: Visual search powered by Google Lens
>Note: Google must be set as your default search engine for this feature to appear.
Borgz··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
Yes, it's the same price as a Google Play Console developer account, but this is for access to the new Android Developer Console.
Borgz··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
Looks like Google will also be limiting each developer's number of apps and installations unless you pay them $25. https://developer.android.com/developer-verification/guides/...
Borgz··on Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?
Funny to say this when the article literally says "nothing wrong with mascots!"

Out of curiosity, what did you read as hostility?

Borgz··on Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?
In a different repository, though. I think it's understandable that someone would miss it.
Borgz··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
Perhaps one justification for blocking ads is protecting users from personal information harvesting, tracking, and malware delivered through advertising networks. Aside from that, I can't think of a justification.

I actually think it would be good if there were filter lists that whitelisted ads that were not harmful to users in those ways, but that sounds difficult/impossible to fairly maintain, and I doubt anyone else wants it.

Borgz··on 4chan Sharty Hack And Janitor Email Leak
4chan doesn't store threads for very long, hence the plethora of third-party archive sites. I doubt they are still storing any useful data from back then.
Borgz··on Default styles for h1 elements are changing
From the linked article:

>To test in Firefox with the new behavior, set layout.css.h1-in-section-ua-styles.enabled to false in about:config.

Borgz··on Minecraft Snapshot 25w03a
There is a 2020 video with a Minecraft developer talking about this testing infrastructure: https://youtu.be/vXaWOJTCYNg
Borgz··on Gaining access to anyones Arc browser without them even visiting a website
According to this article, Arc requires an account and sends Google's Firebase the hostname of every page you visit along with your user ID. Does this make Arc the least private web browser currently being used?
Borgz··on How Chainalysis made their way into popular Monero wallets
The hacker accidentally published their entire home directory (including ~/.ssh) along with the stolen patient records, which I imagine made things pretty easy for the authorities.

Borgz··on Mozilla defies Kremlin, restores banned Firefox add-ons in Russia
>"In alignment with our commitment to an open and accessible internet, Mozilla will reinstate previously restricted listings in Russia," the group declared. "Our initial decision to temporarily restrict these listings was made while we considered the regulatory environment in Russia and the potential risk to our community and staff.
Borgz··on Apple Pencil Pro and iPad Simulate a Shadow of the Pen Being Emulated
I would tell you to go to a specific timestamp to see the pen shadow that you are missing, but the Threads video player doesn't seem to have a visible time nor a way to pause playback. That's unfortunate.

If you go 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through the video when the camera zooms in, you'll probably see it.

Borgz··on An HTML Switch Control
Because then it wouldn't be backward compatible.
Borgz··on Japan to crack down on Apple and Google app store monopolies
This is a problem that PWAs address
Borgz··on Firefox Keeps Getting Faster
How do you dump logs?
Borgz··on A theory on why OpenAI (Ilya) fired Sam Altman: Different AGI definitions
HN seems to do this with Reddit a lot
Borgz··on U.S. cities consider banning "right on red" laws amid rise in pedestrian deaths
Requiring vehicles to be safer is a good idea, but it will take many years before unsafe vehicles are off the road. In the meantime, we should try to make changes that can have an impact on a shorter timeframe. Changing traffic laws can be done relatively quickly and have an immediate effect.
Borgz··on Colorado Supreme Court Upholds Keyword Search Warrant
Apparently Google provided police with IP addresses, but not names [1]. Assuming that Google did not provide any other account details, the usage of a VPN service or Tor might be able to protect users in similar cases.

Borgz··on DAWproject: Open exchange format for DAWs
The readme says that PreSonus Studio One supports the format, so I think it's possible others might in the future.
Borgz··on Pixel 8 leak promises 7 years of OS updates
I think they are referring to the Pixel 6 [1]. If the same happened again, Google might announce that the Pixel 8 will receive 4 or 5 years of major Android version updates and 7 years of security updates.

However, the alleged leaked specs for the Pixel 8 explicitly state "7 years of OS and security updates" [2], so I think they do actually intend on 7 years of major Android version updates.

Borgz··on Google sued for negligence after man died following map directions
I believe the driver was driving a car, not an airplane, so I'm not sure how the bridge being visibly damaged "from the air" is relevant.
Borgz··on Bluesky Exploits
I think it's better to just not allow custom text for links. It's the behavior people are accustomed to from years of using various social media platforms.
Borgz··on Early response to false claims in Wikipedia, 15 years later
I arbitrarily selected the month of September 2022 and found that on only 5 out of the 30 days of the month was there an entry related to Ukraine or Ukrainians in the "Did you know" section. Of those 5, only 1 was related to the war. I disagree that 5/30 constitutes "nearly every day".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Recent_additions/202......

Furthermore, I don't see what's inherently wrong with including information in that section that relates to a topic people are likely to be interested in at the moment.

Additionally, the "Did you know section" isn't really for current events. That would be the "In the news" section.

Borgz··on Bootstrapping to €600k MRR and getting killed by Shopify: Checkout X
From the article:

"I always saw Checkout X as a limited-time-window opportunity and honestly I couldn’t see a future different to what happened to us."

Borgz··on Teddit Is Shutting Down
I disagree. The current title "Teddit Is Shutting Down" implies that the Teddit project or the official Teddit instance at teddit.net are shutting down, neither of which are currently happening.
