Rzor··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
>I really just have to come to the conclusion that we have a tiktok informed voting block here. I've had people ask me if I'm worried that the new data center will spy on me. What?

Are all data centers going to be trouble-free or are you generalizing from this one example? Sorry for the snark, but your n=1 isn't remotely enough to support that claim. I'm not necessarily siding with the people seething at data-centers, but I'm nowhere near convinced that tech bros and company did a good job of avoiding conflict or addressing people's concerns. They helped bring this on themselves. FAFO.

Rzor··on Claude's new rules against game cloning won't stop the AI copying boom
>these vibe-coded ports and decomp projects fail to clear the same quality bar as human-centered efforts)

Yeah. I'm playing Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One) now and there are specific car customization menus that crash the game. Apart from that, though, it just works.

Money laundering through an associate and close friend, and foreign exchange evasion are the two main ones currently sitting on the Supreme Court.
Rzor··on Dear Mathematicians
That's an uncharitable take. LLMs doing mathematics could mean mathematicians losing jobs and grants, feeling a profound loss of purpose or believing that all their work to get where they are was for nothing. I don't agree with all of these concerns or with every view driven by fear relating to all of this, but we ought to respect their sense of dispossession, even if we think it's not that warranted. Reducing all of that to being anti-science is just rude. OP's post is dismissive of mathematicians works and values. It treats math as nothing more than a pipeline to useful inventions, which is hilariously wrong and the hoped scifi payoff example of tech from Spiderman is fucking hollow.

I think parent meant "offline support" meaning you get bots (PvE) and LAN/custom server (PvP), which CS is perfectly capable of since 1.6.

Can you elaborate, please? If any, I see the other big labs with public admissions of AI "going out of control", which I suspect they almost want their models doing that because if helps with the narrative that would net them industry regulation, but that's besides the point, how is Google worse in that regard?

Those comments are pure vitriol juice, my god, and they just keep coming from all angles as to why that dude is an absolutely piece of shit on very little data. Incredible stuff, and a good lesson right there.
Rzor··on Special Projects (2016)
>it is undeniable the progress you have unleashed for the benefit of mankind and history will be grateful about your legacy

Keep watching, then. I'm not so sure history will be quite as grateful as you seem to think. The future has a funny way of looking very different from what people expected when they were busy building it.

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

They look reckless... so far. They keep doing this enough, and I'm sure people will start seeing it as a smokescreen for real hacking operations, which may very well be the case.

Rzor··on The Strange Brain of an F1 Driver
Very interesting article. Thank you. It reminded of some ideas present in Echopraxia by Peter Watts, particularly about consciousness actually holding us back, or something to that effect, that people turned military-contracted-zombies had to go in order to sell their bodies and become extremely deadly soldiers.
Rzor··on Aztecs by Inga Clendinnen: Disorienting and nauseating as cosmic horror itself
It's late at night here, I'm in bed, but that second paragraph hooked me on this essay like a moth to a flame and I already told myself the book is probably much better and I should get it, yet I keep reading it.

Little trivia, but Path of Exile 2 (videogame) has a map that's quite inspired by Aztecs and one recent reminder I had of their brutality was precisely running through this level called Aggorat and witnessing the mesmerizing gore surrounding everything.
