Sabinus··on Apple Maps puts all buildings back in Gaza
Because this is the new culture war topic. Check out OP's history.

This is their moral crusade. Which would be good if it was aimed at compelling Israel to offer a decent 2 state deal and pull out the settlers (with much Israeli weeping and gnashing of teeth), and compelling the Palestinians to accept it. But instead we get absolutist "Israel is evil and must be dissolved" and we're back to the cycle of violence.

Sabinus··on Europe plans to squeeze out Starlink
If anything will make the Europeans work together and pay the coordination cost it'll be this. The service is too useful and too risky to depend on the USA on. And we've already seen pressure applied to Ukraine via the system.
Sabinus··on Reddit stock today -30%, Bot/ghost town light in users
I wonder if any of the C suite had any consideration for the tradeoff between being a place for discussion and community, and the friction introduced when you're attempting to aggressively monitise said discussion and community. Will they be content with a dwindling user base and an increasingly less valuable pile of AI training data?
Sabinus··on The FSF is now on Bluesky
>We can't advocate that you sign up for a Bluesky account like we do with Mastodon or PeerTube since signing up for Bluesky means loading the registration page's nonfree JavaScript.

This Stallman energy always makes me chuckle. Ever since I read the GNU/Linux copypasta.

Sabinus··on Sam Altman Thinks You're Wasting DRAM
If those companies can pay for those loans from the DRAM facilitated revenue then it will have been an efficient use of resources.

And if they're wrong, you'll be able to purchase second hand cheap data centre grade hardware in a couple of years and DRAM prices will return to normal.

Sabinus··on As search traffic dries up, Reddit announces shift to a logged-in experience
Yes, because they can charge OpenAI to permit their bots access.
Sabinus··on Anduril Partners with Qualcomm to Build Laptops on US Soil
Why is it bad for Qualcomm's brand image?
Sabinus··on Cerebras Deploys Trillion-Parameter AI Models
Who's gatekeeping? Also "only 11 years"? That's quite a span of time.
Sabinus··on Bentley's Kyiv deadlership among the strongest, despite the war
"The Ukrainians" and "the Ukraine" are not the same thing. Like "the British" and "the Britain"

I notice you didn't answer my question.

Why do you think the Ukrainians don't like their country being called the Ukraine?

Sabinus··on The EPA Is Quietly Killing Its Web Archive

Sabinus··on Brown student maps the hidden global labor powering AI
So China does engage in lithium colonialism and apparel colonialism? I'm struggling to parse that part of your comment.
Sabinus··on Brown student maps the hidden global labor powering AI
Or restrained them from imperialism.
Sabinus··on Lula Wins Brazilian Election
For some reason Russia retains the anti-imperalist reputation of Soviet propaganda despite both being extremely imperial.

I think it's because neither incarnation could do imperialism via a navy so all the countries not on the Russian periphery never experienced it.

Sabinus··on Bentley's Kyiv deadlership among the strongest, despite the war
If it's a non issue (according to yourself), why do you think the Ukrainians have such strong feelings about it?
Sabinus··on Cerebras Deploys Trillion-Parameter AI Models
With the utmost respect, if you've only been here 20 days you might not be fully cognizant of the site norms and culture. It's not about being pro or anti AI, it's low effort comments.
Sabinus··on Canadian Officers Don't Want to Serve in the U.S. Anymore
>even if Trump is the source, he's far from the cause

What does this mean?

Sabinus··on Utah Woman Speaks Out After Cop Body Slammed Her at Data Center Protest
Depends exactly what she's doing when (I think) the cop is saying "stop stop" before one of them body slammed her.

The force should be proportional to the restraint needed, not punitive because she's struggling against 4 officers.

Sabinus··on Deepfake of Washington County, Oregon, Candidate Goes Viral Nationwide
>A Fai campaign supporter then provided a different video of the event to OJP that showed the flag right side up.

It would be interesting to know where the "corrected" deepfake originated.

Sabinus··on Israeli settlers attack European diplomats in the West Bank
Because politics is compromise.

Because the Palestinians are many decades late in accepting a two-state peace deal and their bargaining position isn't getting any better.

Because even moving 80% of West Bank settlement population is going to be difficult for Israel to achieve politically and we want the proposal to be something that can be actually achieved because we can see what the alternatives are. And this is with a hypothetical Democrat US president willing to bring ultimatums to an new Israeli President that is to the left of Netanyahu.

If you want to encourage endless conflict over what your vision of justice is then that's your right. But if there's no compromise there's going to be a lot of (mostly Palestinian) blood spilled yet and you should be aware of that.

Sabinus··on Israeli settlers attack European diplomats in the West Bank
Because we're supposed to post things that create discussion and stimulate curiosity, while that generates outbursts like "I used to support Israel but now I don't support it's right to exist!" from new accounts.

In the spirit of wanting this thread to be more productive: I would like to see ~80%+ of the West Bank settlers shoved back into Israel as part of a peace deal and the infrastructure given as reparations.

Sabinus··on AdFection: Targeted ads turned into a pipeline for zero-click mercenary spyware
What do you think that proves? Thousands of pagers exploded. 50 unlucky bystanders explains your article. I looked harder and found that Hezbollah has admitted that most of the victims were the intended targets, Hezbollah members.

>Hezbollah, also a major Shiite political party with a wide network of social institutions, has acknowledged that most of those wounded and killed were its fighters or personnel.

Sabinus··on AdFection: Targeted ads turned into a pipeline for zero-click mercenary spyware
>They killed and maimed far more bystanders than the targets themselves.

Is that the case? That's not the impression I got from the reporting. Do you recommend anything in particular I should read to verify your view?

Sabinus··on An Israeli firm is sending zero-click spyware through online ads
Where were you people when the very technical reports of the DOGE activities were being [flagged] off the front page?
Sabinus··on BBC licence fee to be extended with 'YouTube tax' to force more to pay
Please UK pass some actual reforms. Fold BBC funding into the general taxes, people would forget about it in a month.
Sabinus··on We are entering a period of overlapping crises
Turkey is an inheritor of the Eastern Roman Empire tradition/influences. So is Russia. It depends on your historical influences and political role models.
Sabinus··on Yandex outage: data shows that instead of going dark, malicious bots moved
The issue isn't disagreement with the elite. It's that the actual political conversation, the process of disagreeing with the elite, is deliberately targeted and made more chaotic and less productive. The public can't settle on a real narrative and realistic demands to present to the elites.
Sabinus··on Trump calls for stop to attacks on Russian oil refineries, Zelenskyy replacement
If he does become a lame duck President after the mid terms, his efforts will shift to preserving his legacy and heading off impeachment proceedings.
Sabinus··on A statement on the Tor Project's relationship with Mullvad
Today people mean liberal democracy.

Sabinus··on US Forces Exit Iraq
A tiny minority (especially a people of the book) that knows their place isn't offensive to Islamic nationalism. The jizya system is designed for this. A Jewish majority state in the middle of the land of the Muslims is pretty offensive to Islamic nationalism though.
Sabinus··on Trump says anyone who uses the phrase "artificial intelligence" is "the enemy"
I'm observing the same tactic in the gangster series Mobland.

When pressuring a witness, etc, the gangster will always end the intimidation with making the victim repeat whatever humiliating or farcical line the gangster wants to be the new reality. It's forcing a visible submission.
