bergen··on The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI
Using the "let run multiple agents run amok" approach you surely get a lot of "i don't like that part"-feature requests, yes.

In my opinion, a good engineer is not good because he understands every single obscure technical detail, but because he can build solutions that the people using his technology actually want. The list of things they don't want on the other hand is endless.

bergen··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
You could argue that you did that to entertain your social media followers and gain more of them, which is somehow a material gain.
bergen··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
Fruity loops is the producer in that example

> It's clear which side of that dichotomy you land on, for better or worse.

This is not a binary, you are boxing in a person you had no detailed conversation with

bergen··on Gitframes
I am clearly not the target audience, but as a hobbyist that has used da vinci resolve at points i understand basically nothing of what the software actually is supposed to do
bergen··on ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust
Adobes moat is being the industry standard, and the wealth of documentation and tutorials and features like integrating with industry standards (printers, cameras, exotic formats). I can't imagine every company going through the hassle to have people relearn their complete stack when hiring new people because the have the n-th possible "adobe replacement" software.
bergen··on ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust
I'm struggling with the audience? The main thing about Adobe right now is millions of hours of youtube videos that show me how to do stuff. I would be completely lost with this software
bergen··on Powerless F1 drivers frustrated by Bahrain F1 software glitch
> "It's just horrible. I don't know, it just proves that we shouldn't have any of that stuff, the electronic side," Norris said

It seems he doesn't want ANY electronics, which is frankly ridiculous. The steering wheel has looked like the one from a flighter jet for decades now. There is electronics in everything, even the helmets.

bergen··on Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability
When was the last release of a new car from Tesla? When did they do anything exciting? Tesla is going in 5 directions at once, none of it with conviction, bleeding money with the CEO addicted and focused mainly on pity battles online most of the time besides managing 5 companies at this point.

Tesla itself made a turn for the worse over the years and there are a lot of things to criticize honestly

bergen··on Musk, the Movie
He's not trying to colonize mars, he's trying to get power and wealth and for you to like him. Nothing irks this man more than someone who doubts he is a saviour. It is reasonable to demand we fix the planet we currently inhabit, rather than believe a ketamine-addict that the better solution is to just let it go to hell and move on.
bergen··on Musk, the Movie
You mean for example the gas turbines he's running without permit to power his data centers?
bergen··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
Nothing says a hegemony has to form, this is not a given. Power vacuums can be filled by different actors at once.
bergen··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
China is making trade deals and integration left and right and even Canada and Mexico are looking in other directions and cooperate more closely with china and eu. Maybe not a single power has to hold power
bergen··on Apple is getting this wrong
Yep, that's exactly what i thought at first look. This looks like one of those "letting-steam-off" mails you bin after thinking it through after cooling off.
bergen··on Don't be a meat proxy
So you're telling me you haven't read the article?
bergen··on Kimi Work
>Who is going to invest the trillion dollars into infrastructure needed to run the latest version of Kimi 3-5 years out

Everybody that is concerned about their data ownership and residency, and how the US political system is behaving right now. There is a huge incentive to cut off ties with API and subscription providers, especially those based in the US.

bergen··on Kimi Work
>Some buyers need the best and you can charge a premium for it.

Yes, and that is how you get a top-heavy k-shaped economy I believe. It is harder and harder to sell premium A+ products, because most people can only afford what works. If my old ice cream vendor charges me 25% more but puts chocolate sprinkles on it i'm going for the non-sprinkle version.

bergen··on Top researchers leave USA for the Netherlands (in Dutch)
The US once was proud of its scientific achievements, now parts of it replaced that with being very proud of their ignorance
bergen··on Top researchers leave USA for the Netherlands (in Dutch)
Is it an accident though? This seems very deliberate
bergen··on German ruling declares Google liable for false answers in AI Overviews
And the european consumer doesn't want harmful products to be beta tested on the public.
bergen··on German ruling declares Google liable for false answers in AI Overviews
So we deploy a technology no one should trust to the general public, for what exact reason?
bergen··on Uncovering insiders and alpha on Polymarket with AI

bergen··on Meta Deployed AI and It Is Killing Our Agency
No serious company wants their key users to log into a platform with their personal accounts, this would be a security nightmare and asking for trouble
bergen··on Why does SSH send 100 packets per keystroke?
You just opened a huge nostalgia portal, never thought that Dreamweaver would still be around, I used that somewhere around 2003 I believe. Good memories
bergen··on We may not like what we become if A.I. solves loneliness
The two of you might simply talking about different locations. This article seems very US focused, but in europe third places still exist, and it seems the US is having a severe decline in those.
bergen··on Fintech dystopia
I'd argue crypto casinos (pump.fun comes to mind) would not work without stablecoins because no one would back them with real dollars.
bergen··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
One point is missing for me - you get lazy. People are less and less equiped to think about complex problems the more they RELY on this for coding. Also this article is just about coding.
bergen··on Pipelining might be my favorite programming language feature
Depends on the context - in a scripting language where you have some kind of console you just don't copy all lines, and see what each pipe does one after another. This is pretty straight forward. (Not talking about compiled code though)
bergen··on Yahoo is selling TechCrunch to private equity firm Regent
