d_tr··on I don't understand quantum physics (2018)
"A Course in Modern Mathematical Physics: Groups, Hilbert Space and Differential Geometry" by Peter Szekeres has several chapters on linear algebra early on, starting with sets and groups and including tensors (which you absolutely need for QM).

I loved it.

d_tr··on It's still ok to enjoy programming
I wish I could upvote this more than once.
d_tr··on There's never been a better time to go into math (by: 3blue1brown) [video]
As much as I hate all the moronic garbage people do with A.I., it can be used for good like every piece of technology. In any case though, it can't be "banned" or stopped, only regulated. So we just have to deal with it.
d_tr··on How to engineer an AI harness for game development
Do they? Genuine question, because I don't see how.
d_tr··on Evolving programming languages in the AI era
The strenghts and weaknesses of LLMs are changing, so starting a long-term project like a PL with them in mind sounds like a good way to end up with something obsolete before it is even usable.
d_tr··on Cognition's SWE-2 achieves 92.8 on Terminal-Bench 2.1
How and why do they get nerfed? To save money?
d_tr··on Bespoke: A programming language for people who say please
I guess I feel better about the carbon footprint of me saying "thank you" to GPT now.
d_tr··on Bespoke: A programming language for people who say please
I woke up miserably at 6:00 before work and read this as I was drinking coffee. It very literally made my whole day!
d_tr··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
Meanwhile I am just impressed that we have models that write better than most native speakers, at least English and Greek... OTOH I like to write my code and my text myself, so I have no reason to get pissed when LLMs fuck up.
d_tr··on Zig’s Io.Threaded is neat
If you do not even read code (the fact that you don't write any is clear), then what do you do?
d_tr··on Keychron announces first open-source firmware for gaming mice
I got a c3 pro a few weeks ago and you definitely can turn the lighting off. Don't remember whether it was through cycling or some other combo but you can. Did you look at the manual?
d_tr··on How real are real numbers? (2004)
It doesn't matter whether the model assumes bits, pulleys, elves or whatever, as long as it does a better job at describing physical reality than whatever exists at the time anyway. People will try and very probably succeed in providing alternative formalism anyway.

All that matters is whether it facilitates reasoning towards the goal.

d_tr··on Replacing Systemd with OpenRC in Debian
Can't these features be toggled?
d_tr··on RIP software hackathons. Long live the hardware hackathon
> As software subtends to becoming more and more "solved" ...

Really? Maybe if we do not care about robustness, elegance, coherence, consistency and generally anything beyond making a buck and leaving more waste behind... sure!

d_tr··on Making Julia as Fast as C++ (2019)
> This is 7 years old.

Yeah, I actually totally forgot to check the date...

d_tr··on Windows 11 Notepad to support Markdown
I use Notepad from time to time for quick notes and I have noticed exactly zero friction added to this "workflow". Not sure what you are talking about.
d_tr··on Developing a Beautiful and Performant Block Editor in Qt C++ and QML
Not having an extra language to deal with and so many features being just a flag away is why I decided to go with QtWidgets for the GUI of a project I am working on at work. And it is so nice to use despite being very old. For the graphically intensive parts I am just using Vulkan. I understand this might not be enough for all types of GUIs though and just wish QtWidgets had some sort of GPU acceleration.
d_tr··on FPGAs Need a New Future
I thought that if you have some idea about how hardware works, it is kind of more or less obvious whether something is synthesizable or not.
d_tr··on We Need to Die
> but we’d be ruled forever by ageless ghouls.

We all know what the ruled do when they get really pissed. The prospective ghouls know it very well too.

d_tr··on We Need to Die
Exactly... Nothing can stop the masses. Plus, we have laws that can change and adapt.
d_tr··on If you're going to vibe code, why not do it in C?
Imagine the kind of garbage that some people consider "robust, working code"...
d_tr··on The reality of life after getting your brand stocked in a national retailer
I'd reframe it as a stupid game..
d_tr··on Study finds memory decline surge in young people
Get a flip phone. Being reachable and able to reach is good, and you'll still get all the other benefits.
d_tr··on Show HN: Strange Attractors
For me, being able to visualize 4D would imply that I can picture four mutually perpendicular axes, something which I find completely impossible for me to do. And I thought it is impossible for any human brain. It would be fascinating if I am wrong.
d_tr··on Encoding x86 Instructions
You have a really sad view on what constitutes a waste of time.
d_tr··on When 'perfect' code fails
I suspected it would be some feature of this moronic joke of a language and it seems I was right.
d_tr··on OpenAI researcher announced GPT-5 math breakthrough that never happened
Whatever happened to "don't get high on your own supply"?
d_tr··on Why Every ML Engineer Eventually Has to Learn Linear Algebra Properly
Linear algebra is pretty straightforward if you learn it properly. Lots of resources seem to confuse matrices with tensors and linear operators because the creators don't really have any idea what they're talking about. Do yourself a favor, get a proper math book and be done with it once and for all.
d_tr··on Functions Are Asymmetric
Never heard about this one, thanks.
d_tr··on Functions Are Asymmetric
Thanks. Maybe I should have stressed this more, but what I had in mind was a more mainstream language suitable for everyday programming too. All the languages mentioned in this thread are great but they are not getting any more popular and you would not use them to build, say, a game or a linear algebra library, right?
