I’ve been reading covers letters for most applicants we receive. Generally we get 25-40 applicants (IT management or specialists positions) and if the CV looks half decent I’ll always read the cover letter.

Could you try another card ? or get a giftcard from 1password? Can you pay via their app using Apple/Google Pay?

Same situation here. Super frustrated with these apps that moves old purchased apps to “classic” and forces people to buy a new app. $50 is ridiculous.

My only use case is bookmarks. I don’t care about archiving. Like you, I replaced instapaper with wallabag, but I never really went back and read those articles. So I just use it for bookmarking sites and pages I frequently use.

Thanks for the clarification. Ultimately I think a developer (and other employees) should be able to work with any task and (in this case) the status of the code shouldn’t determine if you want the job or not.

Personally I value other factors such as work/life-balance, coworkers, work-benefits and salary higher than the individual task I’m completing on a day to day basis.

I understand what you are saying, but a request/demand like that would be a hard pass for me as a manager. I’ve worked at companies that require a high level of security clearance and we wouldn’t be able to show you anything before you are cleared. No NDA will fix that. What I’ve done before is to show cases or examples of fake code/work tasks that looks like production examples but are very different. This is for the candidate to get a feel of what they will work with.

I know and I did that. But when I daily had it break sites it got too annoying. When important sites break half way through using them, it was more a hassle than a help.

I had to stop using Privacy Badger as a lot of sites would break. This was specifically when shopping, booking tickets or using government/banking sites. Extremely frustrating as most of the places it would break would be important sites where i really didn't want it to happen.

I saw the compose file but I’m wondering if I need multiple cores and a lot of ram? Can I just host it on my raspberry pi or I need to spin up a x86 server?

What is the requirements for selfhosting it? Matomo is pretty lightweight on my system.

Everything is controlled through active directory. A new user get an account and with security groups access to different systems are provided. Everything is AD joined or uses ADFS. When a user leaves, their account in Active Directory is disabled.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. I have multiple different keyboards for different tasks.

Mechanical keyboards is a huge rabbit hole (reddit.com/r/mechanicalKeyboards).

I split my keyboards up in three categories: writing, programming, gaming.

For gaming i like to have a smaller keyboard with easy reach for all the essential keys. Here i often use a split keyboard or a 60% keyboard.

For programming i dont like too small keyboards (less than 60% is frustrating) and i don't enjoy programming using split keyboards.

For writing i often use 40% or split keyboards.

Currently at my home office i use an Alice-style keyboard from Switch Couture [1]. Here i have silent linear switches (Rosélios [2]). I like the alice-style for my general work, as i both write a lot of emails and do a bit of programming. From time to time i switch to one of my split keyboards, if i have a lot of writing to do. I currently don't have a favorite split board, but i use both Kyria [3] and Lily58 [4]. The stagger is a bit different and i'm not sure which i like more. I have an unbuild Corne [5] that i'm gonna try soon.

I don't often go to the office, but when i do, i take a small 40% board with me. It's a simple AMJ40 [6] that doesn't take up much space. At the office, most days go with in-person meetings anyway, so not much typing is done.

When i'm off work, i usually switch to either a Space65 or Think6.5 V2. Both are 65% from Graystudio [7]. The Space65 uses Holy Panda switches, which are louder tactile switches on an aluminium plate, whereas the Think6.5 V2 uses Gateron Milky Yellows on a FR4 plate, which are much more quiet. If i decide to do some gaming, i usually pull out one half of my Kyria and switch to one of my gaming layers. I have layers for WoW, Diablo, LoL, HotS etc.

I have other boards too, but they rarely see use, as these 6 boards seems to cover my needs.

As i said to start with, this is a rabbit hole. I've spend $3000 on keyboards in 2020, as i needed a covid hobby. I stopped buying new boards and accessories in the start of 2021, as the spending and FOMO got out of hand. Had to go cold turkey.

In order to stay encrypted only subjects can be searched. With the bridge app, you can use imap through a desktop applications. I use thunderbird which also lets you search message content.

I’ve never seen this as an issue.

I always sign up directly and store the information in 1password. With a custom domain I always use <website>@myDomain.com.

What if your twitter/fb/google account gets suspended for whatever reason? All of a sudden you can’t login to a plethora of sites.

I use ComicRack daily and I wish the developer didn’t just disappear and that we would get some performance upgrades and dark mode. Unfortunately when it comes to comic organization and tagging, nothing even comes close to ComicRack.

Use Baikal or radicale. I’ve been running baikal in a docker container for a couple of years.

I've previously been the manager for the 5 solutions architects and enterprise architects at my company and while most came from a developer background, not all of them were always up to date with technologies. What I decided to do was have a rotating weekly meeting with each of our technical teams. We have teams specializing in VMWare/Hypervisor, Firewall/Core-Network, ActiveDirectory and so on where the architects had a Q&A with each team about what they were working on, what was new in Best-Practice and so on. This helped my team stay current on a lot of new technologies without having to spend a lot of time and money on books and unnecessary certifications.

What my point is, i would recommend not reading a whole lot of information on a variety of topics, but talk with the experts at your company and see what they recommend. If you have a specific topic in mind, then of course you can grab a book or take an online course, but as an architect there's too many topic to cover and be an expert in all of them.

Most smaller conference and journals doesn’t require an advisor. Just write your paper and submit it? Not sure what your issue is ?

I realize I like to consume news (rss, HN, Reddit) while browsing the sites. If I get an email with the info I just end up delete it.

So no, I wouldn’t pay or even use it.
